His Dark Materials

Can't wait! I read these books so many times as a kid, everything I've seen so far looks amazing.

SDCC: Cast asked who their real life Daemon would be...?
Lin Manuel replied- NY pizza Rat.... :funny:

I never saw the movie, but this actually looks pretty awesome based off that new trailer. I love me a good old fashioned fantasy epic and it also looks like it's going to be a lot darker than the movie version as well.

This looks great and already seems like it has more substance and explanation than the movie.

Just saw the trailer and it looks good! I didn’t realise this was a TV show for some reason. I hope it has a solid budget.

‘Fleabag’s Andrew Scott Joins HBO & BBC’s Drama ‘His Dark Materials’ – Deadline

The “hot priest” is joining His Dark Materials… Fleabag actor Andrew Scott has signed up for the HBO and BBC co-production.

Scott is set to play Colonel John Parry, the father of Will Parry, who is being played by Amir Wilson. Parry, who is also known as Doctor Stanislaus Grumman or Jopari, accidentally travelled to Lyra’s world where he became a renowned scholar and shaman. His dæmon was called Sayan Kötör and had the form of an osprey.

He joins the second season of the drama with season one scheduled to air later this year.

The news was revealed in a picture between Sherlock star Scott and Lin-Manuel Miranda. The Philip Pullman adaptation, written by Jack Thorne, is produced by Bad Wolf.

HBO has a really good track record for me. I can't imagine this going badly. :)

"Who is Lyra Belacqua?"

Helen McCrory, David Suchet & Cristela Alonzo Join His Dark Materials – Deadline

Peaky Blinders’ Helen McCrory, Poirot’s David Suchet and U.S. comedian Cristela Alonzo are lending their voices to HBO and BBC drama His Dark Materials.

The trio are among those to sign up as voice actors for the the Philip Pullman adaptation, written by Jack Thorne and produced by Bad Wolf.

McCrory voices Stelmaria, Lord Asriel’s snow leopard daemon, Suchet is Kaisa, gyrfalcon daemon to the witch Serafina Pekkala, played by Ruta Gedmintas. Scoresby’s daemon is an arctic hare called Hester, voiced by Alonzo and Lyra’s unsettled daemon, Pantalaimon, is voiced by Rocketman’s Kit Connor. Mrs Coulter’s mysterious daemon, a Golden Monkey, doesn’t speak or have a name but his animal noises and vocal characteristics will be created by Detective Pikachu’s Brian Fisher, who also serves as the lead puppeteer and CFX co-ordinator on the series. Iorek Byrnison, a bear who Lyra meets on her quest will be voiced by The Innocents’ Joe Tandberg.

Looks inviting, love the cast, and look. Can't wait to fully immerse in this show.

Meanwhile James Mangold where is our X-23 sequel? Dafne Keen Fernández is only going to get even busier after this!

You do realize Disney now owns 20th Century Fox and the X-Men again, right?

I never saw the failed movie adaption that got greenlit when every studio was looking for YA series of books to adapt in the wake of the success of Potter, but I really liked what I saw in that tailer, I think I'll give it a try.

This looks like such a better adaptation of these books than that movie was, it's not even funny.

Watched the first episode yesterday.

Just 1 episode in and already looks better and darker than the Golden Compass film.

My partner (who's a big fan of the books) also says the show tries to capture most of the details that are in the books.

The first episode of this show was pretty solid. I'm already really intrigued by the world this is set in and visually it's just gorgeous to look at. Also, those marten Daemons are so goddamn cute lol.

I was kinda meh on the fist episode to be honest. I can't help it; talking animals makes the whole thing feel like a really dark Disney cartoon to me, lol. I also thought it all seemed a bit disconnected, like the Gyptians look like they come from a more modern time period than everyone in Oxford, who look like their stuck in 1898. And then the Magisterium looks like they're from the future. Maybe that's the way it's supposed to be though, I don't know (haven't read the books). Then again, after Watchmen, maybe anything is going to struggle to hold my interest, lol.

However, Ruth Wilson, James McEvoy, Dafne Keen and Clarke Peters all bring it, like I expected them to so maybe this will be more engaging as it goes on. On a side note, does anyone else think Ruth could play a really good gender-bent Joker? That smile and those sinister eyes, man.

Really dug the the first episode. Ruth Wilson’s gonna kill it as Mrs. Coulter.

Yes, I have thought this before! Whenever I imagine Flashpoint’s Martha Wayne Joker in a movie, she’s who I picture.

Disappointing first episode. Really don't like how Tom Hooper directs anything
