a warning for tonight episode: it's graphic

Wasn't happy with how it ended even though you could see it coming. :(

Kudo's for showing what they did. I'm sure in real life it was even more brutal.

I wished they used normal looking snakes though. That was my biggest gripe. Otherwise, the bromance with Echbert is heartbreaking. Very Braveheart/ Lord of the Rings.

Ragnar went out like a true badass. Those flashbacks from earlier seasons, particularly from season 1 were touching. Travis is a phenomenal actor and he'll be missed but his influence lives on mainly in Ivar who acts the most like him.

If they thought that Ragnar was a dangerous opponent, just wait until Ivar comes looking for his revenge. It won't end well for them.

Intense episode, unsurprisingly. Ragnar was probably glad to die by the end of that. Kudos to the show for not saving Ragnar's death for the season finale like a lot of shows would do. I'm excited to see how the rest of the season will play out.

Ragnar looked so young in those flashbacks. Great work by the makeup department aging him so well.

My favorite part of the episode was those soldiers daring one of their members to touch Ragnar. Such a teenaged boy thing to do. :funny: It was a nice bit of levity in an otherwise heavy episode.

It's crazy seeing pics of Fimmel's model pics before the series, and then seeing him by then end. Hard to believe it's the same person.

They broadcast it for so long and it had such a great build up, I'm not disappointed! The show has also built up a great cast of compelling characters to follow on from, so I'm excited to see what the future holds for the series. I hope we get at least another three seasons after this.

My favorite part this episode was probably Ragnar scheming to screw Ecbert over despite their friendship. Plotting to the very end, and beyond!

The only shame, I think, is no longer having Travis Fimmel in the show. He's such a great actor, I sincerely hope he can go on to do great things.

Yeah! Amazing really. It's more than just the beard too, somehow they seemed to make more lines on his face. I really don't know how they did it!

I'm kind of surprised they did in Ragnar so early with this much of the series left to air but then I see they are going to continue the story with his sons instead.

It's not that early. At this point in the show's timeline Ragnar is in his 50s, and Ivar is around 20. According to the legends, Ragnar's death is what sets Ivar on his path. So it was either kill Ragnar or stall the story.

It's been the intent from the get go. Michael Hurst supposedly wants the show to end with one of Ragnars descendants sailing to Vineland. thats 100 years from where the show is at now.

That's a bold goal. I doubt the show will get more than 7 seasons.

I thought the series would end just after Rangars death, like 2-3 episodes before, not the five it is now.

Floki converting or something?

I don't think Floki's converting; he just seems to be feeling hollow inside. That excitement and craziness that a Ragnar brought out of him has been absent for so long that the guy seems to have lost his enthusiasm. When they arrive to the Mediterranean he's literally taking a stroll while everyone else is going nuts killing people. Floki's lost a lot of his passion.

Anyway this was a great episode and I'm glad we got to see Bjorn reach his destination and now the brothers know Ragnar is dead, they'll come together and seek vengeance. The show is in a very good place.

Floki converting or something?

I know whatever they are doing, it's irritating the alt-nazis. Heard some guy on a Youtube comment last night get all salty about Floki being entranced by Islam. Guy starts complaining saying Vikings should just be murdering them, one common response kept being mentioned...

13 Warrior.

It was good seeing people who know history and literature putting these folks in their place.

Yes because Vikings NEVER converted to other faiths for their own various reasons or anything. ;)

Well heck, after this week's episode I'm sort of feeling like I should have put Vikings higher on my Top TV Shows of 2016 list!

Does anyone else feel like they're laying on the mysticism a lot thicker all of a sudden? Not a complaint by any means, just an observation. Until the last episode or two, Vikings always seemed to handle its relationship to gods and magic with a clever subtlety. You could interpret things as either other-worldly, or just an odd real-world occurrence. Now Odin is blatantly running around talking to various characters, they're hearing the same voices, etc.

Also, the fellow who plays Bjorn is a great actor!

The show plays fast and loose with history anyway, so I don't mind. Also it's a convenient way to get the whole "Ragnar's sons learn about it" thing out of the way so that we can get to the really (potentially) cool stuff (The Great Heathen Army and the invasion of England).
