Yeah he was an idiot. Hey genius, what part of GREAT Heathen Army do you not understand?

Also I think that they're saving their budget/resources for the REAL big battle (against Ecbert's army).

He also spent the previous episode or two harping on about how well prepared he was for the Sons of Ragnar, which made his fall all the sweeter!

I think that he expected them to fight more like how Ragnar did, and also underestimated just how enraged they were by his death. Oh and I wonder if his last thoughts, well besides "OH OH, IT HURTS IT HURTS," were "I really should have listened to my daughter when she tried to warn me."

Also Floki has one of the best lines of the entire show:

"I've been told that your god is a carpenter. And guess what, so am I."

Yep. He was expecting a raiding party like Ragnar always brought. Oh, how wrong he was.

I love the show and have been inspired to grow my beard out! Was itchy asf for a while till I discovered beard balm, game changer. :hmr:

Make sure to tattoo your head too, if you haven't already. Anything less is half-assing it.

Floki's "crippled bastard!" line in the promo last week totally fooled me.

Lots of great action this week! I was beginning to think we wouldn't get to see the major battle this episode, but it looks like they're splitting it between this week and next week- even better!

Regarding Torvi, this show sure knows how to keep a viewer in suspense! Geez.

I was happy to see the scar-face fellow's plan went belly up, so to speak.

Poor Athelwulf! He's almost certainly going to lose the upcoming battle. I've always liked him. He seemed to me to be smart and conscientious but his father manipulated and degraded him constantly. This was his opportunity to prove himself and it doesn't look good for him.

Harald Fairhair had better hope he dies on the battlefield because I don't think he'll enjoy what Lagertha has in store for him when he returns to Kattegat. I would like him to escape Lagertha though because he and his brother are so amusing the way they sit around scheming all the time.

The Muslim girl storyline is boring me. She needs to either die or adapt and become a Viking herself.

Helga's behavior this season has just been awful. The way she has kidnapped/adopted that muslim girl is weird and awkward as ****. I hope the muslim girl stabs her to get revenge so that ****** c-plot will end.

I like how the girl seemed to warm to Floki, while highlighting Helga's overbearing behavior.

It would seem that the years of tragedy have done a number on Helga's mind. Really trying to smother a traumatized person, especially a child, with attention can often be VERY counter-productive. You have to be more, careful, with how you approach things.

Although to be fair the Vikings are not above doing some pretty *****e things on this show (or in real life) in-general. Heck Helga is positively tame compared to some of the other stuff that we've seen.

I was pleasantly surprised that Bjorn didn't let his ego and first born status get in the way of hearing Ivar out in strategising for the battle. As for Harald, his reaction was priceless when his brother came to the rescue but yeah, now Lagethar knows the truth he's in some deep ****.

I'm FINALLY caught up...well to ep 18. LOVING Lagertha's throne even if it does remind me alot of GoT's Iron Throne.
Also had a pleasant surprise, While getting info for making a 3D model of the throne using Lagertha's height for measurement. Katheryn's MY height!! :D Thought she was much taller lol

Was that Bjorn's wife who was killed?

Yes indeed, although we don't know if she's actually dead yet. She looked pretty messed up, but then she blinked. After that no one in the Kattegat scenes seemed to mention her, so I think maybe she's laying up in a bed some place.

Things aren't looking good for Athelwulf, which would be a big departure from history, but they probably wanted to keep Egbert in the series for longer.

I wonder if next season will be about Alfred the Great.

She's alive. I doubt Michael Hirst is going to kill off one his daughters like that.

Still reworking the banners in the rafters

If you haven't seen the Documentary on the History Channel called the Real Vikings, I think you should!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnkQdgOSW14

There's 4 episodes, the Actors and writer go to the different areas where the Vikings were known to be, and go into depth on a few things.

Jeez this episode was brutal.

Ivar, Ivar, Ivar. Damn, this guy...

The opening battle was great; bodies everywhere and with Athelwulf now king and Ecbert signing over the land with no authority that's going to present some problems.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers showing up banging some chick was typical. Season 5 is going to be great.

Egbert and Ragnar were really a lot alike. Right to the very end. This deal has already started to backfire on the Vikings.

The deal wasn't valid anyhow, Egbert wasn't really king and had no authority. :p It was just a trick.

Yep. Egbert was playing them the whole time. He knew the West Saxons couldn't win against Ragnar's sons, so he sacrificed himself to split them up. As you can see, it has already worked.

East Anglia wasn't Egbert's to give away anyways, although we'll see what the show does with regards to that. My guess is we will see King Edmund next season. If Show Egbert was King of East Anglia, they probably would have mentioned it.

Alfred will have to wait. They clearly aren't doing his reign next when they just introduced St. Heahmund.

Nobel Wolf (Aethelwulf) is now king!

The Vikings burning all those manuscripts was a tragedy. Ragnar probably would of saw the value in acquiring knowledge from them.

I'm surprised they killed Sigurd so early. Sigurd never got to go to Scotland or marry king Ælla's other daughter Blaeja.

JRM as a warrior bishop looks fun. JRM as Steerpike in Gormenghast was one of my favorite performances of his.
