Hitman: Absolution

Totes. I also hope there's still tons of ways to complete missions. I always loved re-playing missions to see how I could've done it differently, and there were some really cool and creative ways to take out your target rather than the guns-blazing option.

Agreed. I'm STILL finding new ways to off targets in Blood Money. I love making them look like "accidents".

damn linear levels.

i don't even want one level to be linear. i wish the devs put all their effort into making the game as open and free as possible rather than trying to upgrade the gameplay. the only reason i play hitman is so that i can mess around, explore and interact with the world, and kill my targets in multiple ways. i really don't care about looking through walls, or having a dead-eye knock off.

i'll still be getting the new game. :o

And what about that is different from the last game? In the last game you had your disguise and that was it. If they gained suspicion of you that was it, there was nothing you could do outside of leaving the area to stop that. What other options of escape do you want? Either hide in plain sight, or kill everyone. No different from the last go round.

As for the level design, IO has stated on multiple occasions that the same, sandbox style, choose your path levels exist.

I agree with you 100% on the voice. Like iv stated before, I'm holding off until i hear a bigger sample, but its still inexcusable that they wouldn't bring Bateson back.

It's different because you could take different routes, experience different things and learn through trial and error. I'm betting that's the intro but I'll friggin hate if they interject more of that s**t throughout the game.

Ah, yea i see what your saying. Yea IO has stated there will be levels like the ones they demoed as well as levels like in past Hitman games. Levels that are more sandbox in nature.

My favorite Hitman missions are The Jacuzzi Job from Hitman 2, and A New Life from Blood Money. As long as the new game has similar missions I'll be happy.

Ah yea, i loved a New Life.

Loved drugging the thong wearing wife in the pool house.

I happened to enjoyed quite much of A Dance with the Devil. The thought that it didn't blend well did cross my mind, but a fetish parties in both "hell" and "heaven" makes an interesting scenario and makes it stand out from the other missions.

The games kind of blur together for me, but one of my fave levels in Blood Money was the one where you have to eliminate a target in a suburban neighborhood/house that's guarded by bodyguards and stuff. You can poison the FBI guys outside via poisoned donuts, you can sneak up to the neighbor's treehouse and snipe, you can dress up like a delivery guy and sneak in...that kind of versatility is so amazing in this franchise.

Yea that was "A New Life".

I always poisoned the doughnuts, then went to the recon van, stole an FBI suit, walked into the house, went to the pool house, drugged the wife and stole the microfilm, then went back to the front of the house, cut the power to the tv, then when the agents went to investigate I'd go back into the house then either use a silverballer, syringe or fiber wire to execute the mark.

I just remember sabotaging the grill, or shooting the skylight out while the girl is in the indoor pool.

That's why I'm b**chin lol. If they're not making it their number one priority to design classic Hitman missions, these gameplay changes don't matter.

 That's one I loved to play over and over and over again just coz you had so many approaches hahah.

Bwahaha I forgot about the BBQ exploding. Epic.

Sometimes I'd just pick off a guard from the tree house next door, then watch as one by one the less-than-great AI would send a guard to investigate. Rinse and repeat and soon enough the entire pool was filled with bodies.

Ah, Hitman. So many ways to kill people. What a great franchise.

Some new info regarding some of the new shooting mechanics:

“A main focus for us when starting on Absolution was Agent 47’s abilities. He’s a master assassin who has been genetically engineered for killing and he has spent his entire life in training. The weapon handling and game mechanics were never really developed in the past games and going into action would usually lead to certain death. For Absolution, we got the opportunity to both make an advanced combat AI, which can handle a fight anywhere and from any direction, and to beef up Agent 47’s abilities for gunplay. Point shooting is the icing on the cake of the action mechanics and a great possibility for us to merge the cinematic ambitions of the game with a potent new tool to the player’s disposal.”

The cinematic aspect plays a large part in point shooting and is driven by the instinct system, which is also new to Absolution. In Absolution, point shooting allows you to clean out a room of enemies in a fast, effective and spectacular way – split second decisions and the honed abilities of the ultimate assassin are combined into a system that really gives you control of the situation. If you’re worried that this is something that takes over the gameplay situation, forcing you to sit through endless scenes of death and destruction, fret not. Tore has the answer:

“During the tagging phase the player has full control with the game. During the execution phase there’s both the option of an automated cinematic experience, a player controlled cinematic experience or a swift gameplay minded in-game experience. So as with most aspects of Absolution the player is the one making the choices.”

“Hitman games are usually seen as stealth games. However, we see it as a game where the player chooses what to do. We have improved most mechanics in Absolution and added several new mechanics to the various play styles and point shooting is the most prominent new feature in an action oriented play style. The “professional” assassin would naturally try to minimize collateral damage and keep action to a minimum but I believe even the most seasoned player will experience moments where they will have great benefit of point shooting. It’s all about having the full spectrum of abilities of a world class assassin available to you.”

Hmm, interesting. Will deff check that out. I need to read more.

In Hitman Blood Money, I would play through the levels about 3 times. The first is killing the targets in alternate ways and a few guards that get in the way. The second I go on a massacre. I kill everyone in the level(including civilians). And the third time I would go for the Silent Assassin rating.

in the mardi gras level, it's actually impossible to kill everyone.

i killed hundreds of people but the city streets were never empty...:csad:

Thats exactly part of what made the game great. As soon as you add slow-mo insta kill, health regen risk/reward diminishes. Breaking cover potentially just becomes trivial.

That pretty much sums up most of gaming today. Probably should be a genre unto itself.

Yea i see where you are coming from, but how does that help to show the player at how talented 47 is? I mean if he can't take out a room full of dudes before being dropped, then just how good is he really? IO has always wanted players to have the choice to go in guns blazing or Silent Assassin, the former just wasn't designed well. Altho with that said, I'm sure most Hitman fans always wanted to try for SA rating.

And why does it even matter? You are going to play the game going for the SA rating, so you'll probably never even use the slo mo kills or the instinct. So why whine about it?

Yea i knew they replaced her actor. I wasn't too upset with that as I'm a big fan of Marsha Thomason(from LOST). I mean i would of preferred if they had kept the original, but still that isn't nearly as bad as them kicking Bateson to the curb.

Meh on the red.

Also, where I kinda see where Spock is coming from, at the same time I've never really found Hitman games overly challenging when it came to firefights. I used to re-run levels and kill literally everything I could and I would rarely die, mostly due to the horrible AI I suppose. But, all things said and done, if you want things to be super tough I'm sure Hardcore mode with max difficulty will suit your needs.
