Hitman: Absolution

Maybe Bateson wasn't a good enough Voice actor for the direction they were going for in this game? I don't know. I haven't played the Hitman games in a long time. But from what little I remember, and from what I read people on here say, Agent 47 isn't exactly the talkative type.

As we know, they are trying to make the franchise more cinematic. So maybe 47 will get a lot more to say and maybe it requires more emotion and what not, than what we are used to from the old games.

Haha yea i feel the same man. Im not ready to boycott yet but this whole thing just reeks. I guarantee you this was out of IO's control. What ever LA based casting agency Eidos/SE is using can take a long walk off a short pier.

 After some quick googling just now I found this:

David Bateson said:
Hi there Mathew,

Thanks to you I now know more! I didn't even know the E3 thing had voice work on it at all.

Yeah, I won't lie. I am totally gutted. You know, IO called me in in Sept 09 and said I had to now audition for the part thanks to them hiring some LA casting director. Well, I ate my slice of humble pie and auditioned and then heard back shortly afterwards: congratulations - you got the part. I have been waiting ever since for the call to go in and record...

You know, I can even understand IOI not letting me know what's going on so as to avoid any loss of shine in the build up to the trailer premiere and then E3.

But now, after repeated mails and sms to the producer and still no reply I am lost for words.

Thanks for your support though.

Kind regards

David

Straight up unprofessional.

Being a longtime Hitman fan it's kind of a blow to hear that the man responsible for 47 will not be voicing him, but I'm sure they can find a suitable replacement. I'm reserving judgement of this game until I have a controller in my hands and I'm able to control 47 himself.

And just to let you in on something.. I have a feeling the reason they went with someone else is probably money related. Maybe the VA wanted more money to come back? If that's the case, then they will probably NOT go with Timothy Olyphant (thankfully) since he would probably require even more money.. so don't freak out yet about all this. I think it's silly to put off what could be a good game that we've all been waiting years for just because of this news.

I really wanna see their official response to the whole thing but for the time being it looks like they're cleaning house for the sake of it.

lmao if that turns out to be the case make that another reason to avoid it. I'm so sick of my favourite stone cold killers being humanized.

I've bee noticing a similar trend lately with recasting for sequels. Back in 2009, Rockstar said they were recasting Max Payyne. But in April of 2011? They said not only is the original voice for Max coming back, but motion capture as well. I'm EXTREMELY happy tthe original vocie for Max is back.

I have just one question though. Why all the sudden ideas for recasting?

Just because they might look for a voice actor with more emotional range, doesn't mean 47 would be turned into a softy. Anger and rage are also emotions. Is it bad to have someone who can put a bit more heart into his shouts and screams or can convey anger better?

Yes. 47 doesn't get angry.

I liked the coldness Bateson brought to our baldylocks killer clone. Apparently there is a disconnect that they want with the old games and this new one, no deal. I don't care how much they put into this one, I'm not playing until the old crew is back and signed. Looks like a knock off of Splinter Cell Conviction anyway.

Yeah, I liked Conviction coz they stayed true to the characters and the ending of the co-op campaign was amazing, but I'm starting to see how the hardcore Splinter Cell fans felt about it lmao. They're making gameplay changes that sound pretty rad like costume interaction to sell your cover but for the most part it's as if they liked the idea of Hitman, just didn't like what it was.

47 has two emotions. Killing and not killing

 If they're sending him on a quest for revenge coz he was betwayed and his feewings are huwt just... smh.

Well to be honest, that would be a good reason for 47 to do the things he would do. I mean he's a clone, not a robot. The guy doesnt just 'kill'. He does it because theres no one better at it, and its the only thing he knows how to do, but we have seen him try to get away from it all, he doesnt enjoy it.

To say that 47 doesnt have emotion is incorrect, he just doesnt show them. But in Blood Money, when he thought Diana was betraying him, you could hear it in his voice. He also kept a pet bird, altho he broke its neck to keep it from making noise, but still.

I remember in one of the first Hitman games when you rescue some hooker she kisses you and 47 shudders as if he's disgusted. Coooooold bloooooooded!

Haha i dont remember that. Which game? Silent Assassin, Contracts?

Sounds like a scene from the movie hahah.

lol exactly, that's what made me lol about the "killing/not killing" joke. The thing about 47 is he never loses his composure, and who better to deliver that than the man who's done it four times. Having 47 go up against the people at the top would be awesome, but not if they're gonna have him be all emotive about it as Nathan suggested.

I'd rather he be portrayed like a sociopathic outsider on the fringe of society Taxi Driver style than someone heroic. It's why I like Contracts so much it's by far the darkest of series.

Hes not a loony toon like Taxi Driver tho, he's very much in control of his actions and thoughts.

But I dont think he'll be portrayed as any kind of hero, here. I mean he's out to kill the ones responsible for f***ing him over.

Maybe Tommy Olyphant is reprising the role?

Unless there's a reasonable excuse for putting a guy who portrayed one of my favourite characters out of work I'm not gonna be buying it. It may be stupid but I feel a loyalty to the guy, and losing a role based on an audition for a role you've played before is s**tty. hahah they probably called him up, "Yeeeah... we're going in a different direction. Same character, just a different direction with the voice, yeah. Sorry bro."

I can understand that. I'm a Hitman fan. Not a hardcore fan, though. But, I can very much understand how this move would piss off fans to avoid buying it.

I'm a huge Splinter Cell fan. I know I would freak out if Sam Fisher was suddenly no longer being voiced by Michael Ironside. I probably wouldn't purchase the next game in protest.

You have a point. Which is probably what scares people.

That they're going to change 47 in such a dramatic way, that the guy whose been providing him with a voice for every game needed to be replaced.

How much will they change him, if that big a move is needed?

Conviction turned out pretty good.

Especially considering how different it would have been with Hobo Sam. That demo of Hobo Sam didn't resemble Splinter Cell even in passing.

Timothy Olyphant. Whose got an itchy trigger finger.

Justified.

Well...she is a hooker. So, I can understand him being disgusted. God knows what's been in her mouth within 15 minutes of her kissing him.

Tim Olyphant is one of my favorite actors out there, but i wouldnt want him voicing 47.

There's nothing that IO could tell me that would justify them releasing Bateson.

Im not saying the next guy wont be good, but if its a sound alike, even a perfect one, then why the hell didnt they just go with Bateson?

I swear if they give 47 a straight american accent or some other nonsense im going to combust. I will burst into flames upon hearing it.
