I'm looking forward to a spoiler-free review from you, Pat! :D

Haha yea no problem.

I just ghosted the first level, which was kinda unfair as iv seen like 5 diff play throughs of it, but it was still a lot of fun. Overall the game controls exceptionally well and of course, its absolutely gorgeous. Even though the first level isnt the classic Hitman level, the game is still VERY much Hitman. Still a LOT of sneaking around and changing disguises. Just going by that early level, this seems to be one of the better stealth based games out there. Without spoiling anything story wise, i will say we have never seen 47 like this before. The dev's are finally doing a good job at showing us who this character is. He is so much more than just a bald scowling killing machine and im loving, absolutely loving his early character development.

I'll post more impressions later. The 2nd level seems to be your classic Hitman styled level and because iv decided to play through the game in Purist, i think its going to be a nice little challenge.

Wow, 3 levels in and the story presented has topped every previous Hitman prior. This Blake Dexter dude is one of the scummier dudes iv seen in a Hitman title, no lie. Also Purist mode is aptly named. This might be the purist stealth game iv ever come across. This is what Hitman should of been from the start.

I have a copy of the game. Excited to play it and mete out some justice. I'll give my thoughts later.

Yep. Ive never played a Hitman game before and I am absolutely loving this game.

What's Purist mode? No instinct and such?

Purist mode turns everything off. No HUD, no hints, no instinct(except for objective icons), greater enemy numbers and faster enemy reaction times. It's absolutely fantastic. Sneaking through a hotel having to peek around every corner not relying on any meter or map is just great.

Iv talked to a few of my friends who also have never played and they say the same. I really hope this game sells well and breaks through that niche sales bracket as I want SE to keep supporting this franchise.

Between this and Dishonored and Deus Ex last year. I really hope this type of gameplay style starts showing up in more games

Out of curiosity what difficulty are you playing on? And are you finding it too hard? Too easy?

I'm playing on hard and I don't think its too bad. Feels just right, easy enough to go around and do what I want but if I screw up Oh man I'm screwed

Nice. I really like how u can contain a situation. During my hotel infiltration I screwed the pooch and had to get into a little shoot out. In the old games that would of been it, the entire level would of descended upon you. And not to mention the shooting mechanics were dreadful. I also love the idea of the false surrender. If ur caught in an area u shouldn't be the guards won't immediately open up, they'll tell u to turn back or try and subdue you. Adds to the choices u have when it comes to progressing through an area.

Going out to pick up my copy now

That's nice. They also made it available for Sleeping Dogs.

It took me by complete surprise the first time I did it

Initial impressions after a handful of levels are:

- I can see what people are talking about in certain reviews, it's very un-Hitman like level setup. You seemingly have 3 or 4 sub levels making 1 big level.. essentially you have to get from A to B in order to get to C then get from C to D etc & you've maybe 2 or 3 ways of doing as such. To explain it's kinda how something like Max Payne or Assassin's Creed is set out as opposed to previous Hitman game were you are seemingly dumped in a map & you could go from A to your target directly. It's kinda difficult for me to explain.. however it's not a massive deal as I've played the likes of Assassin's Creed, Max Payne, Batman Arkham City/Asylum & not disliked them, however it isn't something I'm used to in a Hitman game & it does kinda take something away that made the Hitman series great & unique.

- The AI, instinct & detection. So far I've only done a handful of levels, however I'm not a massive fan of the direction they've taken it. Generally I do understand the logic that if a Police officer is walking past another that he doesn't recognise he may question them, however for the most part it seems like everybody is suspicious of you regardless of what disguise you are using. However unless I am behaving oddly like creeping around or heading in a direction I shouldn't be, from a game perspective I want to be able to move about in a crowd & act as if I'm a Policeman, guard or whatever I may be dressed as. Having to walk about oddly to break line of sight or using instinct which basically just uses his hand to cover his face would be more odd behaviour than just walking about as if you know what you are doing but whatever. However if the system was set up to correct/adjust those things the opening few levels regarding avoiding the Police would be incredibly easy so fair enough.

- Story. I didn't think I needed a story to play a Hitman game as generally I just want to get in & create perfect hits, however I do have to say it is quite nice having abit of a story.. but I do find the idea somewhat silly that a guy is seemingly trying to frame a Hitman for a murder. It's a little odd considering the amount of murders 47 should be connected to by the police over the years that all of a sudden they give a massive **** about a random maid than anyone else he's killed.

That's it tho, 47 hasn't been connected to past murders. He's a ghost, outside of the agency, there isn't a handful of ppl that even know he exists

Damn. I can not get past the freaking library. Been on this level for over an hour

Must...resist...buying...gaaaaamee....

I have a question regarding the surrender/subdue fake out: What happens if you just surrender and don't fight them when they get close? Do they walk you somewhere, or does the game say you failed and you just have to start again from your last save?

They get up close to you and than 47 grabs them and uses them as a human shield

Picked this up this afternoon; gonna play it tonight. Woo!!

What do you think of the game so far? I'm going to get it regardless, but I know you've been looking forward to it for a while.

I think I bit off more than I can chew with purist mode on my first run through
