Hitman

Im still waiting on Xbox to put the game up for preorder so I can go ahead and give SE and IOI my money.

I'm just trying to read the comparison and it says 6 campaign missions released upfront, but then it says new campaign missions to be released later. It doesn't look like they gave a number on it.

Personally, I don't mind buying the complete game on day one and waiting, but I just wonder what might happen with this type of model, where they release the first half on time, but then something happens and delays push the rest to 6 months later or something.

Well, I said presumably as a I'm assuming two campaigns missions per map make sense with 3 areas, but you are right, they aren't explicit about it. I'd be surprised if it wasn't exactly the same though.

Square Enix and Io Interactive have released a new trailer for Hitman showcasing Sapienza, a fictional town located on the southern coast of Italy.
Here’s Square Enix’s official description:
Cut to the atmospheric track “Between Two Points” by The Glitch Mob featuring Swan, the video gives players a sense of the expansive scale of the location. From a luxurious mansion to the medieval church situated by the beach and the cramped alleys littered with stores, Sapienza is a dense location full of challenges and packed with opportunities and stories for the enterprising player to unfold. And as with all locations within Hitman, dark secrets and engaging stories are everywhere to be found in charming Sapienza.
Hitman will launch digitally for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on March 11 with three locations (Sapienza included). Find more details about its release schedule here.

The size of that map, damn. Reminds me of the first level of Blood Money. Lots of different approaches, targets and costumes just in that one level it appears.

Great stuff so far, looking forward to it next year.

The Hitman beta will launch for PlayStation 4 on February 12 and for PC on February 19, Square Enix announced.
The beta is set twenty years in the past at a top-secret ICA recruitment and training facility. This extremely unique mission revolves around how Agent 47 was recruited into the ICA and shows the first time that 47 meets his long-time handler, Diana Burnwood.
Additionally, Square Enix six PlayStation 4-exclusive contracts called “The Sarajevo Six.” Here’s the rundown, via the PlayStation Blog:
These are self-contained contracts that see Agent 47 travel the world in pursuit of six former members of a paramilitary unit called CICADA. Each target was a private soldier guilty of committing brutal war crimes. Many years later, fate is finally catching up with them. These six contracts will see Agent 47 visit each of the locations in Hitman — from France to Italy, Morocco to Thailand, and the United States to Japan.

I love the idea of seeing 47 early on in his career. If the ICA recruited 47, who made the clones? My knowledge of the lore is minimal even after two games.

Otto Ort-Meyer is the main one responsible. It was his idea to create an army of enhanced clones. He used the DNA of 4 other men(along with himself) to create 47(as well as some of the other clones.) Ort-Meyer had 47 kill off the other 4 members and then 47 killed Ort-Meyer. That stuff was explained in the original game, Hitman: Codename 47 and again in the pseudo remake, Hitman: Contracts

Also I am looking forward to the new Hitman game, it looks like a return to form for the series. I am hoping Jesper Kyd will be back to compose the game, together with David Bateson, they are the heart and soul of the series.

I dont believe Kyd is returning. Bateson is confirmed though. I loved Kyd's work, but IMO, Bateson is the only portion of this franchise that is non debatable. No Bateson, no Agent 47.

Thanks! I've only played Blood Money and (the less inspired) Absolution, so I was a little foggy on the details. Perhaps closer to the release of the new game I'll give 47's wiki page a solid going over.

Wonder if they're moving away from the staggered release.
Sounds like it. Looks like they're just going to release everything at once.

Kinda sucks, because it was an interesting change that I would have loved to see how it played out. But then again, Battlefront is basically doing the same thing, except they charged $60 upfront for half the game.

Eh thats not accurate.

Considering that HITMAN still has a narrative to it, Im not fond of the current release schedule. I don't want to wait 4 or 5 months for the other "episodes" of the game to come out. I mean i get what they want to do, they want to build the game around players feedback, but I rather them just do a few betas for that, rather than delay the full release of the game.

I think they stand to make more money releasing it all at once, don't they? Putting it all out at $60 makes you $60 per copy. Putting it out at say, $10 per level (for arguments sake there are six levels) then you make $10 on the first, then you get the players who didn't like it or just forget about it. Each new level could potentially sell less than the one before.

Also, on a personal note, I'd rather have it all in one go.

Well they aren't charging per level. Its a ONE time 60 dollar purchase with the remaining 4 levels coming out AFTER launch. You either pay 60 bux for HITMAN, or nothing at all.

So on release day(going by their current release schedule) you spend 60 bux and you'll get 3 of the 7 levels. The remaining levels will come out later in the year. And they are doing this so those remaining levels can change/update based on the player feedback.

Like you, I want all the levels at once, player feedback be damned. For starters, im impatient as hell and i want as much Hitman as i can get at once and second, this game is still telling a narrative. I don't want to wait months and months and months to finish that narrative.

I thought it was interesting in the sense that you can basically try before you buy, and still support the developer in the process.

But I completely agree with you that it would suck if you buy the game and anxiously await the next chapter for several months, assuming it comes out in time and doesn't see any delays. But at the same time, it's almost no different than what TellTale does with their Episodic games.

I actually think that a bigger issue is that so many people are having big back logs because of so many releases, so by releasing half the game now, there's no guarantee that people will still be interested in 5 months. With that said, I wonder if this means all the extra content will now be released on day one, instead of every couple of months.

Actually, the price breakdown was $60 for the complete game, or $35 for the base and $30 for the additional missions. So they could actually stand to make $5 more per person if people buy half now, like it and buy the rest later.

With that said, if people don't like it, they're not making as much as they'd like, but they'd still be getting something out of it. After all, $35 is better than $0. But now that depends on how much interest is generated in the game, and I wouldn't be surprised if the initial pre-order numbers weren't as high as they'd like, so they're re-structuring things to make more money upfront.

Well its not try before you buy. Theres no "extra" content. Its you give IO 60 bux, they'll give you THREE of the planned SEVEN missions at launch. The rest comes later.

Based on the model they released after the first delay, they were offering a "Try before you buy" type deal, only in this case, you're still buying something, just not the complete game upfront.

This is why I compare it to Battlefront. A lot of people feel like the game at the moment is not worth the $60 price because the content is not much, and most people are waiting for DLC. But in that case, that experience costs about $100 for the "complete" game.

Here, they're literally saying they'll give you half the game for the price of half.
The new release date is March 11th, includes three locations (Paris, Sapienza and Marrakesh), and three being added post launch (Thailand, USA, Japan)

Yea they might of changed that initial pack as most places that allow you to preorder the game, only offer the full 59.99 package.

Maybe thats why PS is canceling preorders? There hasn't been that "entry level" option available, just the full 59.99 option.

That's what I'm interested to hear more about. I've seen several people post what they saw on their consoles, but I wonder how many people pre-ordered the full game vs half. And I wonder if they're still planning on keeping that model of a delayed release on additional content.
