Hobbit film in 2007?

Awsome, last time I heard New Line couldnt buy the rights. PJ is very busy in the next 2 years so Im not sure if he could do this project.

Well here's too keeping our fingers crossed.

Yes please let this happen!

I knew it. The Lovely Bones was just a cover-up. This is Peter Jackson's next project :woot:.

Right ?

Right :csad:??

Wesyeed, your Avvy scares me.
Why do you have HER in your avvy?

Back on topic. Why didn't he just make this first?

New Line didn't have the distribution rights I believe. They've been fighting for them for a while now.

How do you not have...
When you have the rights to...

Although in continuity with each other, The Hobbit is separate from the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Having rights to one doesn't mean you have rights to the other.

The Lord of the Rings rights were sold to New Line. the Hobbit's were not.

Dear God, I hope this is true. If the movie begins Production in July 2007, then it'd be ready by Winter 2008, five years after Lord of the Rings.

2008. Can you IMAGINE what Gollum would look like? Or better yet, Smaug? Holy. ****.

The Dark Knight, Halo, and The Hobbit all in the same year? I don't know if I could take it.

Also Sin City 3, Iron Man and the 22nd Bond flick. :daredevil

2008 will have a lot more depth than 2007... but an 08 release is pushing it for this flick.... Jackson has not guaranteed anything other than "give it at least five years more"...

A Hobbit film would give the summer or holiday season a much needed shot in the arm.

Meh. I couldn't care less about this making it to the screen.

2008 is actually shaping up to be rather good to the point that it doesn't need a shot in the arm.

The Dark Knight
Iron Man
Wolverine
James Bond 22
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
the Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
The Incredible Hulk
Halo
Sin City 3: Hell and Back
Indiana Jones 4

2007 is pushing it, 2008 is possible, 2009 is more likely.

PJ has yet to announce what he'll be directing next, so it may be the secret project that he has yet to reveal. I just don't see why New Line Cinema and Miramax can't pursue a joint venture in this? Look at Rocky 6, there's THREE companies behind that movie (Sony, Revolution, and MGM).

They've got to get back Ian Mckellen, Ian Holme, Andy Serkis and Hugo Weaving. Also maybe Liv Tyler, Orlando Bloom and John Rhys-Davies can feature as cameos.

They could get John Rhys-Davies to play Gloin, Gimmlies father.

Well... Gimli is the son of Gloin, who is in "the Hobbit", so Rhys-Davies could get a different type of makeup to make him look different enough to buy he's the father of Gimli, rather than Gimli himself.
Or he could play any of the other dwarf characters. ;)

"The Hobbit" also has Thranduil the Elvenking, who is the father of Legolas. So there's an in there as well.

My bad.

Indiana Jones 4, however, is an insult in the making.

It's been a while since I read the hobbit, but I seem to remember it being a little more fantasy based than the LotR trilogy.

I can't wait to see this up on the big screen, though weren't they avoiding it because they felt the story was too winding for a movie. They thought it could be better served by a TV series type format.

Despite Peter Jackson's missteps with King Kong, I'd still like to see him involved with The Hobbit on some level.

There's still money to be wrung from it either way.
