airplane stunts, why ther I don't know but its stunts primarilly.

So I was looking at movie websites and they mentioned the Hong Kong filming has begun. I was just wondering what your thoughts were.....

why do you think Batman travels to Hong Kong in this movie? The Joker has always been attached to Gotham City like white on rice. He is absolutely NOT a Batman villain that has a "global reach", maybe once or twice, but typically the killer clown has a fetish for the destruction of Gotham and Gotham alone....so that makes me wonder why Batman would be traveling the globe in this movie....

any thoughts?

Probably also to give the movie that epic scope Nolan said he was going for. (and he is a Bond fan, the globe trotting movies par excellence.)

i wonder if the HK sequence will be influenced by the Batman: Hong Kong graphic novel.

In that story, Batman goes to HK to track down some triads that were involved in a making a snuff film with someone from Gotham...

Batman in Hong Kong...WHY?

Why Not?

lol j/k I know what you mean.

Yeah didn't it say he had Fox were going to avert a takeover of Wayne Enterprises' Chinese division or something? I'm not really up on the plot points though...

Why not? ;)

i absolutely love the idea of showing Batman in a world larger than just Gotham city. I loved how they approached it in BB and I especially love how they are doing it now, because its not like they are going to the mountains or something. Its another Metropolis, and its Hong Kong. The contrasts in depicting the two cities I hope will further emphasize how lost Gotham is in its own Gothic/metropolis/Victorian sewage.

Ah, CFE and Nightwing said it before I could. :oldrazz:

It's refreshing to see this series not confine itself to a soundstage in London or Hollywood. Nolan clearly embraces the globe-trotting crusader aspect of Batman, something that most audiences haven't seen yet (save for Adam West's trip to "Londinium" and the eps of BTAS (which were some of the best).

Agreed. That was always my concern with the original franchice. It seemed like there was nothing beyond Gotham's city limits.

First with the Himilayas in "Begins" and now Hong Kong...Nice to see them literally stepping out of the bounds of Gotham.

Agreed. And these 'field trips' are usually made necessary by detective work, which is a nice bonus.

Don't know why some people complain about the lack of detective work in Begins. It was there, it was just underplayed, and maybe lost with all the other stuff going on. And I qualify Bruce's stock trick to foil the public offering as a form of detective work. But besides that, there was the neatly-bundled evidence with the delivery of Falcone's men in Batman's first appearance, along with the handling of Rachel's "judge problem". The strongarmed interrogation of Flass to track down the location of the drug deliveries, that's hard-nosed detective work also. All the surveillance scenes, as Batman and in disguise, that's detective work. And obtaining the link between Crane and Ra's al Ghul, while in the end there was luck involved, was detective work.

I always thought that Bruce spent some of his training years in Europe, and I think more specifically France, training with thieves or apprehending them or something, I can't remember. Does anyone know anything about that ?

He trained with criminologist/Interpol operative Henri Ducard (The identity Nolan used for Ra's Al Ghul's "secret identity" in BEGINS). Ducard basically taught Bruce how to manhunt.

Hong Kong?! Ya don't say! This movie is getting filmed epicly.

It's just great that they're utilizing the common fact that they have the rest of the world to play with, and that Batman isn't bound to Gotham.

I never got how it is that while Superman is stationed in Metropolis he's allowed to police the planet, and yet Batman somehow can't do the same. Now I'm not saying Batman should resurrect the flying batcave and take to the skies of North America or Asia.

But Batman can do just as much good crime fighting anywhere else in the world and not just Gotham. So it's nice to see that Nolan is stepping out of the Burton/Schumacher shadow and bringing this concept to light.
