How could Peter fall in love with Gwen after what happened in Spider-Man 2....???

leaving it open for speculation means that they're letting the audience speculate about where the character/s is/are going, rather than showing that on screen. that doesn't mean bringing a character back sometime in the future.

The only problem I got right now is that they don't seem to be leaving any questions unanswered... other than the symbiate... but we all know that means Carnage at most... but if Peter is gonna be getting engaged to MJ at the end... Gwen leaves MJ/Peter alone... Harry and Aunt May die... where else is there to go with the characters? Brock dying is a huge mistake as most would agree... it just seems that any chance of sequels will be dead... the Lizard/Conners story is just not good enough to maintain the success of the films... and I ain't saying the characters will all return... but if they wanted six movies... they did it the wrong way... I'll be happy with SM3 nonetheless but I hope it will stay a trilogy if this is the case...

well Gwens only purpose in the spider-man story is to die at the hands of the goblin. so i dun think starting a movie franchise on such a dark note would of worked.

That was not Gwen's only purpose. She was one of Peters girlfriends. Stan Lee wanted Peter to marry Gwen Stacy. Gwen wasn't meant to die....but she eneded up doing that 8 years after her first appearance.

Dont get me wrong, but why are you so sure that there will be sequels?

Spidey 3 looks like the last movie in Spidey franchise. All storylines will end up, 4 villians in one movie? If they do 4, 5 and 6 movies, Spidey franchise will be ruined just like it happened with Batman with stupid recast.

I think better will be, if Spidey 3 is the last, but then they will make the new beginning 5-10 years later

Look at what they did with Xmen though... tying everything up isn't always a good idea... there has to be some speculation out there... which there will be... but not enough in my book... but going back to Xmen... they might have ****ed up the story... but they left so many questions unanswered.... IN A GOOD WAY... cure ain't permanent... not showing Cyke's death, end of credits scene... everything can be brought back and done even better if there are future flicks... they shouldn't just kill everyone off and let Pete/MJ live happily ever after but they seem to be doing that here.

I mean, what if they ends with trilogy, but then will make the new beginning of franchise some years later.

It worked with Batman (critical success) and Star Wars (box office numbers).

I think it would be more logical.

Believe me, re-cast is very very dumb thing in every franchise.

X3 is a different case than SM3 for several reasons. but they just left the door open for possible sequels. which happens in every comic book movie. SM3 will probably be similar, though not as over the top.

Yea, i didn't mean it like she was created to die. I meant the impact of her death, is the only reason why people remeber a character from 2 generations ago. He death was an important turning point in spider-mans life, and it also impacted other comics as well. Uncle Bens death and Gwen death are the two big things in his life [next to marrying M.J.].

I just got a terrible fear. I know we all ahve tried hard forgetting Superman III but I just realized that Superman had a dark side in that too. I really hope dark Spidey isn't as cheesy as that Supes and that his thing with Gwen goes no further than flirting. If it ends with him going evil and bedding Gwen like Supes did to that **** in SIII....than it could end up VERY badly.

Sorry now that is a fear. Personally I think they should have just had him flirt with Betty Brant instead. She is introduced, has less baggage (now fans want him to get with Gwen so she will die and Capt. Stacy is now here in an already overstuffed movie) and besides, Elizabeth Banks is hotter as a brunette than Howard or Dunst in their respective roles though.
