How did Odin die?

Ragnorak killed him!?

It's the event foretold to kill just about every Norse deity, so I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Odin isn't excluded just because he's Odin.

Surtur killed him, or rather they killed each other

He didn't die in Ragnarok. As bkhedr pointed out, he died in battle with Surtur several months before Ragnarok.

That's what I don't understand about Marvel's "immortals." How can immortals die? Simple: crappy writers! They aint freakin immortal if they can be killed! They just live for a long time.

The Asgardians aren't truely immortal. They're just very very close to it. The Olympians are closer, but they can still be killed. It's been said that there are only a few true immortals in the Marvel Universe.

I really enjoyed the way the Earth X trilogy explained the deities. They were basically just hyper-evolved races who's power had evolved them to the state to where they took on the forms that others believed them to have. For example, when they landed on earth, the man that first contacted them thought they were his norse gods, so they became the norse gods, and were none the wiser themselves. The X trilogy explains it incredible well, as well as adding a neat twist to Odin.

Your right. Thier not really Immortal in the truest sense.Only a few of the Asgardians were fated to survive ragnarok. Baldur was suposed to be reborn and lead the asgardians after the death of Odin. Magni and Modi, Thors sons were also fated to survive. This is the Norse mythos. One of the few true Immortals of Marvel is ironically Mr. Immortal. He is suppose to be alive at the end of time to witness the destruction of the universe.

Which are mostly pet characters of popular creators.

At one time Odin and Galactus were portrayed as equals. Back before Marvel and comics in general went down the toilet.

Eh...immortal seems to be a meaningless word in Marvel because almost everyone is lol. If someone dies they come back, if someones an immortal they die.

Now I think there was a group of mutants called the externals if memory serves, and they were supposed to be immortals. Giddeon I think was the leader, and Sam Gutherie (cannonball) is another immortal mutant I think, been awhile. Not sure tho as they may have been depowered. Not sure on which side of the fence Deadpool lies, but Thanos is a true immortal. Death itself rejected him. As for Odin and co., ya their long lived and very hard to kill but I think it can be done, and obviously has. If any of them said immortal, it was probably more of a boast than fact in the MU.

They aren't mutants, just engineered humans from Celestials. But they're not immortals either, they're just thought of as such from extremely long life spans and near unkillability. Thanos is actually an Eternal.

The Asgardians weren't made by the Clestials. Anyway, they're not truely immortal, simply very hard to kill. Thanos, Deadpool, and Mr. Immortal are the only true immortals in the MU.

Since both Eternity and Death have been killed there is no one in the MU who cannot be killed. Except perhaps the Phoenix. Since only the host has ever been shown to die it may be the only thing in the MU that has not died yet.

Eternity and Death have never been killed. Eternity's powers were stolen once, and he was reduced to pretty much nothing, but he hardly died in the classic sense.

Genis and Entrophy killed Eternity in the last CM series.

The Beyonder killed them both and in a What If Korvac killed Eternity using the Ultimate Nullifier. That Eternity was diverged from the 616 Eternity.

What was the ragnarock storyline released as in tpb form? what title? I asked a guy at my comic store for the thor ragnarok tpb but he insisted it wasn't out in that form yet...
