Superman Returns How did you feel when .........

I personally of the opinion that in superhero movies, the hero should wind up looking like Rocky Balboa at the end of the big fight. Show us it was more than a school yard scrap and what this guy is made of.

I felt the exact same way that the majority of you here did. Well done Mr. Singer!!!

I cried.
The scene was brilliant, in that, it made you hate Luthor and his thugs even more, and heartbreaking, seeing this man, someone whose sole interest is to protect us, helpless and broken, someone whose mission is to save people, with no one to save him.

reminded me of two scenes from Robocop1

which still makes me cry ...booho

Good point. I've always though Robocop has many parallels with Superman (Directive 4 = Kryptonite).

But yeah, this scene was a testament to Singer's direction. It's Parker's horrified reaction to the brutality that helps us connect to the scene.

how did you feel when lex luthor and his hench men was beating the crap out of superman? I felt like i wanted to jump through the screen and kill all of them. There was slience in the theater and people were saying omg, like it was being broadcasted on CNN or something. how did you feel?

Same here. I would've wanted Superman to have had some kind of offensive.

It's hard, but then it's always hard when the hero is getting beat down.

It was a weird feeling for me honestly. Here I am in a theater with my wife watching Superman the movie. During this scene I found myself feeling dred and panic, i wanted them to stop it was so odd, i kept trying to rashionalize it in my head "It's only a movie" but then Supes fell to his knees, then to the ground. I was honestly sad and angry that he was being beaten by such people. Again it was a very strange feeling.

I loved It!:supes:

It was sad it kinda reminded me of the Passion of Christ beatings mixed in with Jules Ceaser stabbings. Kinda wish Lex stabbed Supes a few more times because it would of been even more intense. And I personally think that Lex should of pulled Superman by His curl and sneered in his head. "That little boy is your son and Im gonna kill him". Then have LL actually succeed. I would of liked that. Sorry Im not happy with this "Son Of Superman" idea

Upon realizing who Jason was, I prayed and prayed for his death. I might have been able to handle the doofus Superbaby plot more

it was easily one of the most emotional scenes of the movie. i liked that even though Supes was reduced to being human, he still tried to fight back with Lex. it showed that even though Supes was powerless he wouldn't give up until his last breath and he was reaching that last breath. i also liked how Brandon actually yelled in pain when they kicked him. when you get kicked in the gut by a huge muscular dude you don't just go "argh!" you go "AHHH!!!" and to me it really sold that Brandon was actually getting hurt.

great scene...one of the best of the whole movie.

It was brutal...but I loved the end of the scene...where he stands up and you can see the look of defiance on his face. It was awesome.

that was a fantastic scene, good job routh

It was painful. I couldn't wait for it going into the movie, because I knew it would be something that I hadn't seen yet, and man it gave me such an awkward feeling. When the thug grabbed him by the face and started dragging him, and Superman was trying to talk and it was just muffled noises, akwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaard!! It was a great scene, definately had the whole theatre in silence.

That scene owned my life. Brandon's performance was incredible. I knew Singer wouldn't let us down when he decided to go with an unknown.

It was hard to watch. It was pretty graphic for a Superman film. Seeing such a icon being harmed was sad.

People were crying at the theater I was at.

I felt the same exact way. Seeing Superman kicking and screaming was so intense for me. I could never explain how it felt deep down.

It upset the you know what out of me. I then got mad at Supes for taking it, I found myself uttering this wouldn't happen to Hulk, Hulk is the Strongest One There Is. And even afterward I was mad, because he didn't go back and give it to them like Reeve's did in II, with that Country bumpkin in the restaurant. Of course he inadvertanly killed them, but who cares, I wanted him to pay them back personally. Oh well I guess you can tug on Superman's Cap Now.

Anytime you see your superhero being beaten, you have to get emotional. It was an emotional scene hearing Superman grunt and scream while getting beat up. I was thinking, wow, I've seen Superman get the crap kicked out of him before but not this brutal, not this hard. Seeing the man struggle for the love of his life, and coping with the Return back to Earth, saving people again and then to be treated like this.....

ya that was a rough one...I was actually expecting them to fight over his cap or his S on the shirt or something like how the Romans gambled for Christ's garments..

LOL! Please tell me you are joking.

That was a pretty touching scene, I remember imagining how I would have felt watching Chris Reeve's Superman in that position and it would have probably moved me to tears.

Wished I could help Lex a little bit ^^

I liked the effect it generated. Similar to when Batman gets gased by Scarecrow and relives his childhood trauma while crashing into the alleyway.

I thought so too. it was new seeing both these icons at such a low, vunerable point
