do you guys agree or disagree, discuss this issue in a respectful manner, plase.

One smack isn't abuse. Sometimes a single smack is needed

I think a slight, single, smack is fine. I got them when I was a lil bugger and I turned out awesome

Spankings are lazy parenting.

Having said that some brats need a butt whooping every now and then.

Sometimes, you need an ass whoopin'.
True dat.

Nothing wrong with spanking. If a child does something wrong, he/she needs to be punished via being told off first and if it persists then, whip out the belt. However, beating a child for no apparant reason, is just mindless abuse.

well it's either spanking or hanging.
i say let the child choose

I grew up in an age where spanking was VERY common place. My folks were very structured about it and made damn sure we knew why we were getting spanked. And if we did something wrong, we knew we'd get spanked for it if we got caught. And I'm not talking a pat on the rump. I'm talking get the belt out and prepare for some welts. Didn't stop my brother and I from getting into trouble, but it did teach us to that there are consequences for our actions that we have to take responsibility for. It also taught us a healthy amount of respect for our parents (and most other grownups for that matter). I don't think it's lazy parenting if it's used correctly. I think more kids need to get spanked like that in this day and age.

Agreed, Jag. My parents are of Nigerian origin so, beatings were a natural thing. Everything you said is exactly what I experienced and have learned.

Spare the rod and spoil the child. If kids act up, give 'em a slap. They'll grow up and thank you in the end:word:

I got spanked a couple times if I remember correct. Buy I hardly remember them. So they could't be bad.

The worst thing with spanking was going outside to find what they were going to spank me with...

I dont think its a coincidence that the behaviour of the younger generations has got worse with the decline of coporal punishment, tbh.

My mom used to beat my butt with a wooden spoon, that might've been abuse, but just spanking? Nah, I don't think so.

You probably deserved it and if you did, it wouldn't be abuse, it'd be discipline.

As blind_fury said, spanking is lazy parenting. But that's only if used too often. There's nothing wrong or lazy with a spanking every so often if the kid acts up and honestly some really do need it.
