Btw anyone think Cristin will actually learn the base guitar for the part? She already plays the ukelele which isn't that different, and apparently she learnt the piano in about 10 days or so for her audition for her role in Once in which she starred on Broadway. She could probably learn it i'm sure.

Ted said the woman was 28 just like him. I don't remember which season that was in. Maybe Season 2? Anyway, that would put him and her at least in their mid thirties by now since it is 2013 in their time as well. She doesn't look mid thirties though and even younger than her real age of 27. She might be another Alyson who looks much younger than her actual age. I think Alyson is about 38 now.

Eh, she probably could, but I don't think it would be necessary. In film and television, they hardly forced actors to learn how to play an instrument well. They usually add the audio afterward, or do shots from behind like we saw in a previous episode.

I think they'll just add her in like they did with Doug in the episode "The Fight", where they tried to make him seem like he was a part of the gang's biggest moments up until that point of the series.

You mean the girl from Love Solutions? Yeah, she was also 28. It was in the second to last episode of season 1 when he was supposed to meet her, but opted to skip the date because he realized he loved Robin.

And its funny speaking of age, because in the season 7 premiere, before all the Barney/Robin stuff started again, Robin said she was still on for their deal to get married if they were both still single by the time they are 40. Its funny how close they came to having that happen.

They may but I think its doubtful because that girl was always meant to be a red herring.

I don't doubt though that will get to see previous scenes where the Mother was present (the St. Patricks Day party, the "foot" scene", economics class scene, and obviously, the platform in Farhampton) reshot with The Mother (Milioti) actually shown and/or unobscured.

Hmmm......Ted gives her lilacs when he meets her and all the stuff on the Season 6 DVD were stuff I never knew.

So it would make sense that he gives her the flower that he is wearing and that's how he finds out its her favorite.

And that random bump into girl at the party was always my favorite theory, well that and Barney's half-sisters. 0-2.

She could easily have been on a dating site at 20, if not for the fact that they said the match was aged 28 back then (which may have been a misstep on the writers' part to include that detail as it's now a problem).

Well they might've been post-grad students, which I think Cindy might've been, wasn't she? But she was still younger anyway. So if the mother is the same age as Cindy, then she should also be younger.

And if this Love Solutions match was 28, the same age as Ted, back at the end of Season 1, then 7 years later she should be 35, the same age as Ted. So by that alone (and leaving aside the fact that she is a bass player and her favourite book is "Love in the Time of Cholera"), then I don't think it can be the mother. Well, not unless they retcon things or try to hope that we all forget this match was 28 back then, because some of those other things sound too much like her, and they might want Ted to think that he could've met her all this time 7 years ago but didn't because he went to help Lily instead and didn't want to be matched that way.

Cristin Milioti doesn't look 35. I suppose it's possible she could be, just as Alyson Hannigan at 39 (not 38 in fact - just turned 39) doesn't look lke she's anywhere that old. But still, Milioti does look younger than Hannigan. She looks more like the Buffy or American-Pie-aged Hannigan who was thinner and hadn't had children yet.

I haven't been keeping up with this thread so I'm wondering if anyone else has theorized the mother has died somehow, and hence the very long, very drawn out story of how Ted met her.

It's either that or she'll walk into the room at the very end and say something comedic about Ted's long-winded stories is my guess.

She's there because she's in the wedding band. They already revealed that earlier this season.

24 episodes, roughly 48 hours of what happens over the weekend, so that's plenty of time for them to meet and interact with her individually and with each other before the finale. There will of course be overlaps of who was doing what during different arcs of the story so with a 30 minute show, they really only need 12 hours of that 48 to fill in.

Not liking this idea. Can't see how they can stretch it out over 24 episodes where Ted doesn't even meet her. Even if they could, I don't like that Ted won't interact with her until the last episode. I want to see them doing just that and having chemistry. I want to see them as a couple for part of the season.

But it feels like the storylines will be really dragged out and slowed down. I'd be okay with half a season, but not still next May having them not even moved on beyond that weekend.

I'm guessing she will be just a guest star as well, and not part of the mainn.cast, as I can't see how she will feature in every episode and Ted doesn't eventually meet her all this time without it seeming extremely contrived and becoming a laughing stock by then.

And what's more, Robin doesn't even have a sister. It's bad enough her father has one girl since he always wanted a son and even raised Robin as one, but imagine two girls!

And if she were going to be anyone's sister, she should be Lily's, since she looks strikingly similar to her. But even Lily doesn't have a sister.

I would say I'm a casual viewer. I haven't seen every episode.

Meeting her before the end kind of defeats the title of the series. He will see her performing with the band, might even see her among the guests but won't actually meet (ie; talk to her) until the last episode. We may get an entire episode of them talking and a glimpse of their chemistry but I don't know why there is an expectation that after he meets her, they would continue the story.

I think some of the stories are going to have to be longer, spanning 2 or 3 episodes, because if they have 24 different stories that seems too much of a stretch.
