How I Met Your Mother

I know what he does with her. Know what I'm sayin?

Also this is kind of a stupid question and it may be one where the answer is, "Dude, it's a tv show", but...Has Ted's narrating of the story really only lasted a few hours in the show's present time or do his kids not change clothes?
I think the story is supposed to take place in one sitting, but I think there was an episode early in the series when the kids were wearing different clothes than the normal stuff we usually see them with. But I'm sure that they use the same clip so that they don't have to re-hire the actors to just sit there for a few seconds. Plus it would've been obvious that they've gotten older.

Not to mention his memory for all those events.

Doing that would pretty much signify to the audience that Ted means nothing. They're giving Barney a huge arc and pretty much shoving Ted into the background as it is. I think Ted and the Mother deserve more than an episode. We've gotten full seasons with some of the broads Ted has messed around with (Zoe, Stella). I think we need to see why/how Ted fell in love with her, how the gang interacts with her, how she helps Ted become the man he needs to be (come on, he's not even close yet).

He's the breakout character.

Well going back to the Smallville analogy, ideally it would have been nice to see Clark fly around with the suit for at least more than 5 seconds. But as much as it sucked that that didn't happen, in the context of the show overall, it wasn't completely necessary.

Though I will say it would feel like a copout if we just see Ted meet the mother and expect him to fall in love with her right away (even though he sort of did already when he met her roommate). The best I see them doing is an hour finale when he meets her halfway. But there's much that we already know about his relationship with her that I don't think they need to spend too much time on it.

Half the time it feels like it's Barney's show. Anyone else think that?
No I just think Barney is the character that stands out the most because he's awesome. :awesome:

Ted has the more intriguing story overall but Barney is the more intriguing character.

Yeah, everyone gets their screen time, but Barney's plots on any given episode are always fun to watch.

I'm with Spidyville, I think we're just going to meet the mother and it ends maybe with a montage of their future together. Unless they pull a season 4 of Lost and we have flash forwards of Ted and the Mother's relationship before we actually meet her for the first time.

I think it should end with Ted meeting the mother and maybe a montage of them together until when their kids are born. I don't see the point of doing a season 9 when you know who the mother is. That would be boring and there would be no point.

So all the misadventures the gang got into having nothing to do with Ted finding the mom where boring?

I like to think that everything that Ted and the gang gets into has some sort of impact or effect on what happens with him and the mother. That's one thing I've always loved about the show, in that there is usually a lesson that Ted learns from either his own experiences or from what happens to the others.

Yeah, but there were a lot of "monster-of-the-week" type episodes where it literally had nothing to do with the overall plot. Like "Blitzgiving", what could Ted have learned from that? "Don't leave early.", that's not really a life lesson, and those kinds of episodes are some of my favorites.

Most of the "misadventures" relate back to Ted finding the mother. They're usually some sort of lesson that Ted learns and he becomes a better man because of it. The reason I watch this show is because of Ted and his quest to find his soulmate.

Scoop: How I Met Your Mother Bosses Open to Extending & Renaming Series After Mother Reveal

Could How I Met Your Mother live on in some form after viewers finally meet the Mother?

TVLine tossed that provocative question out to executive producers Carter Bays and Craig Thomas at an intimate lunch the pair hosted for a handful of news outlets on Wednesday. Their response? It’s not out of the realm of possibility.
“That’s come up,” Bays said of a spinoff that would allow them to bring current Mother mystery arc to a satisfying conclusion — perhaps at the end of Season 8 — and then possibly relaunch the show with a slightly tweaked premise and title (i.e. What Happened After I Met Your Mother).

“We’ve had conversations about rewinding back to 2005 and doing a series called How I Met Your Father,” Thomas revealed with a laugh. “From the perspective of what was happening with the Mother all those years. Occasionally, she’ll stumble through McLaren’s and no one will see her.”

Bays floated another idea that similarly involved turning back the clock. “One way to go is to finish the [mother] story at the end of Season 8, and then Season 9 is, ‘Oh, by the way kids, I left some stuff out…,’” he explained. “And then it’s just 24 little stories that took place over the course of the series here and there. Like, ‘Here’s something funny that happened in 2006.’”

Given the ratings growth Mother has enjoyed in its current seventh season, it’s not difficult to understand why CBS and producer 20th Century Fox TV would want to keep the franchise going — either in its current form or an altered one. Either way, Bays hopes to have some resolution on the matter soon (the series has already been renewed through Season 8.)

“We’ve already started discussions with [20th] about letting them know we need some lead time because we do have a story we want to tell and we see how quickly or slowly we should be telling this story,” he said. “Hopefully we’ll get an answer to that in time.

“It’s a hard thing,” Bays continued. “Obviously, we don’t ever want to keep the show on longer than it needs to, just like we don’t want to end it before it should end. But it’s the best job any of us have ever had.”
Oh snaps, y'all. :wow:

I'll be with this show until they reveal the mother and conclude that story. After that...I think I'll jump ship.

thats where i am. I mean I like the characters but once the mother story is concluded Im out

I'll stick with it as long as the cast remains in tact. This is one of the most talented ensembles on TV. They make even mediocre scripts work well. Segel says he is done after season 8, but we all know that can change if the right amount of coin is thrown his way. That said, if the cast leaves, I leave. You take out one card, and the whole house falls apart, IMO.

I agree with Matt. I'll stick around but only if the cast is kept together.

But this makes me wonder if they will now try to get a big name actress to play the mother. I always imagined they would get a somewhat unknown actress.

I like the idea of "How I Met Your Father" but it just wouldn't be the same without the current cast, I couldn't see it working.

Also, I love the fact that the kid from Wizards of Waverly place is Ted's son. I like to imagine now that Ted is a wizard.

I'm with you. Unless the Scrubs it up, I see no reason to hop off the train just because the mother is introduced.

They would just have to find the perfect actress for the role. They've done fairly well casting recurring characters on the show before, but the Mother really needs to be like the missing piece to the gang.

I agree the Mother needs to be like the Blitz and not just be like a girlfriend or a special guest star but be part of the gang.
