How I Met Your Mother

Cool spoilers about the wedding and how it will create a new mystery that could be spread through out the next two seasons.

If you’re hoping How I Met Your Mother‘s sixth season finale will completely resolve the year-long Future Wedding mystery, I have news: It won’t. But don’t un-Save The Date just yet. There’s a very cool twist in the works, one that will continue to unravel well into Season 7 — and maybe beyond.
A CBS insider tells TVLine that while the Monday sitcom will flash forward to identify the bride and groom at the close of the May 16 season finale, that reveal is merely a piece of a much larger story that will unspool in the present.

“The wedding takes place ‘a little ways down the road’ — an unidentified, unspecified amount of time away,” HIMYM executive producer Carter Bays tells TVLine, echoing the onscreen subtitles that have appeared with each of this season’s glimpses at the future. “We will be jumping forward for the last scene of the finale, but then we’ll return to the present day when we start Season 7.”
Adds Bay, “The idea is that we’re going to keep revealing little details about this wedding day as we build toward [it] within the chronological story of the show.” And though clues will be dropped throughout Season 7, the ceremony itself won’t necessarily arrive before that finale, either.

In other words, the mystery of the show’s titular mother — whom we know Ted meets at the aforementioned wedding — will itself be couched in the mystery of how that wedding comes to be, given the likely surprising identity of who it is trading vows.
How I Met Your Mother‘s recent two-year renewal gives Bay’s team more flexibility to flesh out the original mother mystery with this wedding wrinkle.
“We always knew how the series was going to end, but this is a new element that we came up with this year,” the show runner explains. “It adds a new dimension where you’re not just asking, ‘Who is this woman that Ted’s going to meet, and how does he meet her?’ There are now other questions.” Namely, who’s getting married? And once that is revealed in next month’s season-ender, how will that couple get to the altar?
That answer to that second mystery, says Bays, “will be slowly unveiled over the course of the series.”

So it could very well be Barney and Robin. I don't like that pairing though.

What if it's Barney and Robin............. in a double wedding. Barney to Nora and Robin to Michael Trucco.

I would definitely approve.

Though it might sting for Ted. Barney getting married before him, of all people.

I had a feeling this was going to happen, but I'm kinda bummed about it. Not a fan of waiting, I mean, this mystery is going to take almost two seasons to get solved. ARGH.

Well, at least the finish line is in sight, two more seasons after this one and we get to finally meet the mother.

have we seen Lily in any of the footage during this wedding? I'm wondering if she's involved in the wedding somehow. a bridesmaid, or if the wedding is as shocking as Bays wants to make us believe, even be getting (re?)married for some weird reason.

You know it occurs to me we might NEVER meet the mother. The comedy tradition of the all important character who we never actually see is long and distinguished; Nerys in Fraiser, Vera in Cheers, Wilson in Home Improvement, Howards mother in TBBT, ugly naked guy in Friends etc

I'm sure we'll see the mother. I wouldn't doubt it would be during the last scene of the last episode. I bet the wedding itself is the series finale and that's where Ted meets the mother.

but, then last minute, Barney an Robin realize they still have feeling for each other, and run off together... leaving Nora an Trucco (to be name later) at the altar... resulting in a very, biter sweet, moment for fans, as they finally get to see Barnman and Robin back togather, but, feel sad for Nora an Michael...
(this of course, works rather its a double wedding or not.. rather it be Barney an Nora's, or Robin an Michael Trucco's)

Yuck. No Barney and Robin.
Thankyou.

So wasn't it confirmed we'll meet the mother this season? Either way, I'm a bit pissed the makers keep coming up with new tricks to elongate it. Why not actually have them meet and give them a few seasons to show how Ted falls in love with her?

It just seems an aspect that should either move forward at this point or be dropped entirely, since everytime the Mother subplot gets brought up in an episode now its easily the most irritating part of it.

Another solid episode, although a bit "fillerish". With only 4 episodes left, I hope it really ramps things up. Noticed Robin and Barney were not wearing wedding rings in the ten year fast forward. Still don't think they are ones getting married.

Thought it was pretty funny but I'm disappointed with the Ted/Zoe relationship. I see where it's going and I'm interested in seeing how they resolve the issue with the building but I'm disappointed they wrote Ted into realizing that him and Zoe's relationship was pretty bad......but who cares he wanted to be in that relationship cause of graduation goggles.

I loved Barney's melt down when Marshall turned him down for lunch was almost as good as the meltdown Kevin had in the League. I still think that it is Barney and Robin who get married by the end of the series and this episode kind of showed it with how much Robin still cares about Barney.

Barney exacting his revenge on Marshall 10 years later only to be semi-mocked by Ted was hilarious. I wonder how big the breakup will be for Ted and Zoe. I think it will probably happen in the season finale.

To me the only question is going to be who Robin will marry. Because since the series started with how he met Robin it's only natural that Robin's wedding leads him to the mother.

From the Ausiello Report

With a two-season pickup comes… the promise of more Robin Sparkles! Well, at least the strong possibility of such. “A few ideas have been tossed around [that would add] a few new layers to the Robin Sparkles story,” teases exec producer Carter Bays. “We’ve seen TV and pop music, so we’re thinking maybe movies could be something we explore. At least her straight-to-video movie. We’re still weighing our options, but every chance we can do it, we pounce on it.” Adds Cobie Smulders: “We danced with the idea of having another rival come back, but someone who’s more of a competitive energy.” Paging Busy Phillips…. (So she was on the show before — big deal!)

Robin Sparkles made for video movie?!?!

Hmm, I wonder if Barney was speaking from the heart about his feelings for Robin.

I loved seeing Robin and Ted one-on-one in this episode. it's something we haven't really seen since they broke up, and it was refreshing seeing them still being good friends.

all in all, though, these last few episodes have largely felt like fillers to me. I can understand them wanting to slow down the pace a little since we've gotten a lot of heavy emotional episodes this season, but I think they went a little too far. We've seen nothing really happen for the last 2 episodes, and I was a bit bored by them.

Count me in the Barney/Norah getting married in the season finale camp. I think every Barney/Robin hint (and they were laying it on pretty thick tonight) is just red herrings trying to get us off the scent.

Totally agree. Barney and Robin just won't work. Barney and Norah on the other hand would be great. He made more progress with her in just a couple of dates, than with all the time he spent with Robin.

Finale spoilers.
'How I Met Your Mother'
In the May 16 season finale, titled 'Challenge Accepted,' we will learn a great deal about the wedding but not everything. The finale will reveal the face of only the bride or groom, with the other individual's identity revealed next season, which will also take place in a pre-wedding time period. The series will keep touching back on the wedding to fill out the details more and more as the series continues at least through 2013.

My take on the spoilers:

I think this officially puts "it's Punchy's wedding" theory to bed. My bet is that it will show Barney, but not the bride. Giving us the Robin or Norah debate next season.

"Challenge Accepted?" With a title like that it is definitely Barney's wedding.
