IMAX only started showing the movie today (not last night) so you'll have to wait a little bit before the people who see it in 3d come to post on the forums. i know for a fact that the plane scene is 3d. i'm willing to guess that some of the scenes that include NK are 3d as well...

No, I saw it in imax 10pm Tuesday night

I thought it looked spectacular on IMAX 3D . I can't wait to see it again in an hour .

I saw it in a regular theater last night but I'll be seeing it in IMAX 3D in a few weeks.

I was sort of disappointed in the IMAX 3D presentation. It was not that great a 3D effect (I've seen much better) and looked kind of like what it would look like if you were watching it on a ViewMaster slide- Several "planes" of 2D, but all of them were flat and lacked individual plane depth. There was also significant blur on the edges in the 3D scenes.

It wasn't worth the extra $7 over what I'd have paid for a matinee, in my opinion. I feel a little ripped off. Four short scenes in so-so 3D aren't worth $7 difference.

I've seen great 3D effects in the past, and this fell way short of the best 3D.

Sorry you couldn't get into it.

I however thought it was pretty kick ass concidering this was something done in post production, and the film wasn't even shot for it. If tou didn't enjoy the plane rescue in 3D, I dont think anything could ever impress you.

AMAZING. I saw it today and it was AMAZING. 590 seats sold out lincoln square imax NYC. The 3d scenes were good but seeing the movie on the big big big super clear screen was great, a must.

i dont get why anybody like the plane sequence, it was so fricken short. Basicly we have seen most of it, he tears off the wing then the plane falls faster he goes down and catches it THATS IT

i must add that they should of had a giant spider attacking the plane in mid air and then superman would fighter the giant spider to get it off and then save the plane, that would be better

wait, so the whole movie isn't in 3d, just parts of it? I say boo to that

The closest IMAX theater to me is only 20 minutes away!..yay!.. :D

Ironically, I work at an AMC Theater, which is only 3 minutes away from that IMAX theater (which is the biggest one in Michigan at 8 stories wide, 6 stories tall)..

I saw SR free at our AMC theater on Tuesday night and I'm gonna see it at the IMAX tomorrow night at 11pm.. :D

they should have had the opening credits in 3d, that would have been awesome.
i kinda thought it would be, i even placed the glasses on, but it was just 2D.

makess something to look forward to for the sequel, even if you didnt like anything from the movie ;)

I saw it at the IMAX in 3D last night and kind of wished my first experience with "Superman Returns" had been in good old-fashioned 2D. The effects were pretty good (I don't have anything to compare it to, only having seen the "Bug's Life" short in 3D at Animal Kingdom before!) and definitely seeing it on a huge screen is cool.

But I was annoyed that our first view of Superman in full costume was in 3D. I couldn't get a good look at the costume, which is what I wanted to see, not objects flying at me. I found it pretty much distracting the rest of the way.

Of course, I'm just happy that I saw "Superman Returns" any which way, so I'm not really complaining. :)

If I can get my friends to see it only one time, where should it be? at imax or standard theater. I really dont want to ruin the overall experience for them.

I wasn't overly impressed with the plane sequence, i think because our generation is probably desencitized to special effects at this point, we've seen it all, from spiderman flying around to starwars etc. It was an amazing sequence if you realize how much effort went into it, how cool it was and how it wasn't all cg (superman that is) I got alittle annoyed how superman was able to lift NK with a shard of kryptonite in him aswell as the whole continent being infused with it and he had trouble slowing the plane down.

All in all great movie, can't wait for the next one.

I loved the Imax presentation. I saw it in standard for the preview, and I felt almost like it would be no different, but even in 2-D Imax it was amazing. The 3-D scenes were awesome! Anyone who thinks that putting on the glasses is a pain is just being picky in my opinion. The transitions were easy and all of the little kids next to me kept saying things like "cool" and "wow." I've seen numerous movies in Imax, but this was definitely the best presentation. And the audio cannot...I repeat cannot be beaten. Everything is clearer, louder, crisper in IMAX. I'm an audio nazi and this was way better than the local cineplex audio presentation.

You're right on point with this, man. I was happy with the creativity of his power usage more than the visual presentation. I've definitely been desensitized to FX work in recent years, but I suppose I stopped caring about that during the movie because it was used to help the story, rather than support it.

That's kind of what I thought, but I figured Supes would've just went low enough to get under the whole continent so that he wasn't actually dealing with the crystalline mass. Either way, I was still impressed at how much he can lift, dude. The stopping of the plane wasn't what I expected. I figured he'd stop it like in the old animated series, but I thought it was awesome that he just manhandled it by the snout and set it down.[/QUOTE]

4.) The Finale/ Flyby= essentially the ending. Singer's version of the memorable Chris Reeve sign off.

OK, that alone just made me glad I have tickets for Imax this weekend. I loved when Christopher Reeve did that in the originals, and was so happy Singer kept it in his version.

I'm also glad I did decide to catch it on a regular screen tonight.

go to the IMAX then.

It must have been me, but i had a little trouble with the 3D, and i dont have no vision problems. The glasses didnt seem broken or anything either. Sometimes when there was too much going on i would end up seing as if the film was two layers but slightly, very slightly ,missplaced one on top of the other. Strange as it was , it was quite anoying. It kept going from 3D to that and then back to 3D , very much painful for the eyes, trying to focus so hard on the 3D that it was rather a pain than fun in some parts. I seemed to be the only one to experience that though as my friend didnt see any problems.

That is one of the gripes my father had, he said he was surprised how superman couldn't just stop the plane instantly, i understand rotational force working against him but when he got in front of the plane. Singer said that he wanted to objects to really convey mass in this movie and show superman using strength in different degrees. Its basically like a weight lifter, you can use an explosive move to throw up a barbell to get through a rep or you could go slow and controlled and use less energy, perhaps he figured he didn't need to use 100% energy to slow the plane down, either way i don't like to get too analitical on the subject.

As for NK it is understandable why he lifted it from the bottom (to avoid the kryptonite) however it appeared to be growing down or falling what looked to be a few feet from him. Now if you want to get real technical then he should have dropped the whole continent and became weak just by being within range of the kryptonite like in the old movies and comics.

IMO this technology isn't quite perfected, i still saw some ghosting in the dark scenes and the faster ones, in the bright scenes such as when young clark was running through the corn field it was ok and the far away scenic scenes were very good aswell. The previews for the animated movies were awesome, i think the technology is really mean't for that. Then again this movie was not filmed with 3D intention and a process that has never been used before (for a 2d movie) was implimented, so who knows how good it would have been if singer filmed with a 3d camera. (he should have, he would have probably doubled his box office numbers)

IMAX was an experience for me the screen was awesome and my first showing of the movie was perfect, no hugh person in front of me or annoying people around me, it was PERFECT. The stadium styling seating actually gives you vertigo which is awesome. I must see the movie again however i will probably see it in a regular theater than again when they re-release wit more 3d scenes hehe.

Hey, I've never been to my local IMAX before...Do you have to pay to park? Are there previews? Can we eat inside? Are there elevators? How does it work?

I would imagine they are all different, our IMAX is actually part of a big movie complex so it has the regular concession stand and everyhting else that goes with it. We got two trailers in 3D, The Ant Bully and Happy Feet, both animated.

It depends on the theater, its an 8 story tall screen so yeah elevators would probably exist. They have concession stands like a normal movie theater so yeah you can eat, parking who knows - i paid for parking in NYC because well face it you have to. Some people are reporting normal previews while others (like the one i went to) had 3D previews that you use the glasses with.
