Until stores stop selling them, which will happen when they run out of units. If you need to get the 60gb, Id get one now. The first store I went to to buy 1 this past week sold out of them. Im sure they will get more, but depending on your geographical area and demand with the price drop, you not be able to find one easily in the coming weeks and months

I wouldn't leave it too long, or you'll be lumbered with the more expensive 80GB version.

unless that drops in price as well

eventually it will drop in price as well. thats a given. Every console will drop in price.

There is my addition to an argument yet to come.

My birthday is in two weeks :csad: I need more time! :cmad:

Two weeks should be alright. The offer lasts until the 60GB stock depletes. Even though stores will be running out of their 60GB stock, there'll still be more 60GB out there for the stores to buy up before it's completely depleted.

I think you'll be alright if you only have to wait two weeks. The stores will get in more stock.

I think the 80GB will be $499 once the 60GBs are gone

Ya, thats the only reason im waiting to buy a PS3. It will drop, but i dont want to buy the 80GB one, and 2 weeks later it drop by $100.

I wouldn't put it past Sony to keep the price point for the 80GB high over the holiday period.

Nah, they will keep it $600. Just to spite us.

I guarantee the price will drop for the holidays. Stand alone bargain Bluray players will most likely be around $199.99 and there is a corelation between the two. I believe the 80gig will be $499.99 to compete with the likely Xbox price drop. I would not be surprised at all if the price drops even lower than that, say $399.99.

On a side note. Xbox is really taking a hit lately.

Man, I don't think so because, if the plan works, Sony will have at least 5-6 million consoles sold in all when the 60 gigs are gone (not counting the extras stores will buy just to meet demand when they get really scarce). Why drop the price after that? You just had an excellent few months with your little plan and the Metal Gear/Killzone commercials are polluting the airwaves. Nobody knows what Microsoft is doing after Christmas, so Sony can really dominate come February. If the success of their Spring line-up is as good as what I saw at E3, people will even be willing to pay $600 to get their hands on a copy of some of these games. I mean, 3.5 million people already have. Moreover, from what I heard, the top execs at Sony HATED Kaz's decision to drop the price. In fact, there was much turmoil over the whole idea from what I heard. He had to introduce the 80 gig one just to keep them happy. Face it, guys, Sony LIKES/WANTS the console to be at $600, even if the 80 gig is cheaper to make.

Bastards.

I think Sony wishes to take over the top spot from Microsoft this year. Everything seems to be leaning toward that with alot going Sony's way right now. I do not believe Sony likes/wants the console to be at $600, it had to be because of costs. 360's poor build and admition to it, blurays diode's dirt cheap now, removal of the emotion chip, the success (so far) of the current price cut, and buzzing from Capcom of a possible price cut by year end. All this adds up to a great chance for Sony to offer another price cutand to take that leap over Microsoft this holiday season by offering another price cut. Why wouldn't they? Then when Feb. come around and MSG/Killzone comes out... I think it makes more sense and I am betting on Sony's ego on this one to prove me right. I guess we will see. I have mine and can't wait to see how things unfold in this and Bluray/HDDVD war.

Where's the "buzz" from Capcom about another price cut?

You should be able to find this final batch from now until Christmas :o

Sony believes they'll be gone by August 1st.

Oh and how PISSED are you if you have a 20GB PS3. HOLY S**T!:wow:

Those people got f**ked big time. Man, I'm about two seconds away from saying f**k it and buying a 360.

Just buy it now, then it won't matter :?

Thinking about it, this creates a rush for the 60GB version... but its Sony customer satisfaction for sacrificing sales.

how? Ok they don't have wireless and less hard drive space but it's not like Sony won't continue to support them

They paid $499 for a console that is so inferior to the one that is available now for $499. Not having wireless is a problem for many, and 20 GB of space is nothing for a lot of people. Moreover, the 20GB version has HDMI issues. Lastly, Sony themselves don't believe in that SKU.

One thing that is interesting to me though is the fact that Microsoft has never made a dime in this business. They are LOSING money with each iteration of the 360, and they lost money up until the final day with the Xbox. They have not broken even and maybe they never will. But that's ok with them. They're willing to sacrifice billions for consumer satisfication. I mean, 1 BILLION dollars for the warranty issue? That's almost as much money as Sony lost for their entire fiscal year. That's crazy. I respect that though.

You respect them for putting out a flawed product and HAVE to extend their warranty, instead having to do a recall??

I don't know about the HDMI issue, but the HD really isn't an issue. Sony made it extremly easy to upgrade your HD. I'm about to get a 160gig.

I forget if it's HDMI or not. IGN had a huge article on it. I'll try to find it later.

I am, by no means, supporting Microsoft. However, let's think of it this way. Do you think that Sony has the customer's best interest at heart? If the 80 gig version is $600 dollars, I really can't believe so. Moreover, I cannot just go out and spend $499 right now, sorry. I just paid around $20,000 for tuition and I'm about to pay about $600 for books. So, no, I'm not about to blitz to the nearest Walmart and get a system I am pessimistic about. Plus, lol, I still don't have HD. I've seen Resistance on a SD and it's terrible. :o

So, yeah, the news for me is a bit shocking. I don't see why they can't sell the damn thing for $399-$450 and take the losses until they make the hardware a lot cheaper. The whole thing used to cost around $850 to make. Now, it's around the current $600. Take a $150 dollar loss aint that bad. Microsoft at least doesn't think so.

We'll see what happens this holiday. The current 80gig will be bundled with Motorstorm, so a core system will probably come out cheaper also. I don't think any of these companys have our interest at heart especially Microsoft because they rushed their sytem to beat out Nintendo/Sony. We know what happened with that. I really believe by the holidays we will have another price cut and you and I will have a big laugh over this while we blast each other on Resistance. : )
