I'm wondering how the fight scene could seem realistic in the sense that it realistically seems like Sandman wants to win the fight. I can't help but think how easy it would be to trap one of Spider-Man's limbs inside of his body and then Sandman could manipulate his body in a way so that Spider-Man's trapped arm gets snapped like a twig, or his leg gets bent backwards the wrong way or anything like that. Sandman could make spider-man touch his own elbow with his fingertips if he wanted to. He could decapitate him with ease if he wanted to.
How is this not going to happen without Sandman choosing not to? And if Sandman chooses not to, then how evil of a villain is he? He would actually kill him or leave him with severe handicapps. How do you choreogrpah a fight with this guy without the hero dying in the first 10 seconds without the fight scene coming off looking like Sandman isn't really trying to win?
Perhaps this is part of why Sandman could turn out to be a sympathetic villain. It might be the only possible way of explaining it.
