How much slacking in work do you get away with?

Our team leads keep pretty good tabs on us. Not that they're around all the time, but they have readouts of how long each section should take us to complete. The times aren't hard to beat if you don't spend too much time talking/wandering/shopping. That said, I do a lot of shopping/talking/wandering. But, we don't get to go home until we get things done, so that's an incentive to keep going.

Tomorrow, regardless of if my TL is in or not, I'm gonna take it upon myself to do call evaluations.

Besides that, I really wouldn't have any work to do.

Slacked a lot yesterday, talking to a coworker, just a bull**** day.
I think I made up for it today though. I stayed focused and worked by myself. Another coworker was all concerned 'cause I didn't BS with him at all. How much attention does a mother****er need? :whatever: I told him that BTW. :p

Tons!

But in IT it is either feast or famine as far as the daily workload goes.

That's the kind of attitude that will get you the team leader position, or better.

I'm carrying the workloads of three people (literally) and still find time to post here. :multitaskerfromhell:

isnt anyone else reminded of milton from office space?

due to a glitch in the servers... kainedamo is going to keep getting paid....

but seriously, if you slack now, you will slack later, which means you will become a slacker, regardless of the job. have some pride in your work. good work habits are formed rather easily, and its easy to see why some people get paid what a 15 year old earns at age 45. dont let it happen to you.

I work the 4 to midnight shift at work. I get all my work done and also post here. I also work while listening to my mp3 player.

I sell cars for a living. When we're between customers, we're very relaxed at work. Sometimes we toss a football across the lot. Tonight we did some hacky sack. Sometimes we go across the street to the competing dealership and deflate their giant inflated gorilla that they have facing us and taunting us.

With my job I am either busy as hell, or go all day without doing anything. I am a database admin/programmer and I just started working this year...we are working on a global/enterprise system that is complecated as hell, but I get so much experience its amazing. I am extremely fast getting things done, my boss constantly praises me.

I listen to music all day while working but I hardly ever go on the net except to look up documentation or help on something I'm stuck on. Tuesdays and Thursdays I may be at the office until midnight depending on how busy I am, but its cool cuz we usually have pizza.

Regardless, I love my job, it is the best thing I could ever think of doing and I'm only 22...very fortunate. I am garunteed to move up in position fast and get highly paid. I will keep this job until we sell the company for a lot of money.

And what sort of giant inflated thing do you have facing and taunting them?

Lets just say that the only time I post is when I am at work but then again, it is nice being the boss ;)

My boss is a VP, and easily the best boss I've ever had the pleasure of working for.

I, myself, have a team of 86 people, and likewise I'm the best boss many people on my team have ever had. I guess it sort of goes with the territory - we all thoroughly enjoy what we do for a living (making video games).

As to slacking, I manage/produce several large development projects. As long as the people on my team meet their deadlines and integrate/cooperate well with each other through *collaborative* work habits, I'm extremely hands off. I give the managers on my team a tremendous amount of bandwidth and freedom to make decisions and lead their respective groups, and for that they are truly appreciative, and this also manifests itself in a very positive way to their people. Leadership by example.

At the present time, I can honestly say I've never had a finer team of people working with me. It's an amazing thing when you actually get up in the morning and look forward to getting into work!

I must say that is very commendable and you seem (as described by you in this post) as a professional to be admired.
