How much slacking in work do you get away with?

My boss is a VP, and easily the best boss I've ever had the pleasure of working for.

I, myself, have a team of 86 people, and likewise I'm the best boss many people on my team have ever had. I guess it sort of goes with the territory - we all thoroughly enjoy what we do for a living (making video games).

As to slacking, I manage/produce several large development projects. As long as the people on my team meet their deadlines and integrate/cooperate well with each other through *collaborative* work habits, I'm extremely hands off. I give the managers on my team a tremendous amount of bandwidth and freedom to make decisions and lead their respective groups, and for that they are truly appreciative, and this also manifests itself in a very positive way to their people. Leadership by example.

At the present time, I can honestly say I've never had a finer team of people working with me. It's an amazing thing when you actually get up in the morning and look forward to getting into work!

Absolutely the best way to manage people, man. Kudos to you. I've had to spend this year retraining my new manager to take this approach and I think she's finally got it. :)

I work at a thrift store and used to slack alot in my old position (taking donations) quite a bit. Reading books, playing with toys and such. Now I'm sorting/hanging clothes, you have to meet a requirement of sorting 11.5lbs of cartage (clothes, linens, shoes etc..) per minute...this leaves no time for any slacking whatsoever.

Well, I do a lot some days, and hardly any other days.

My job is hectic when I get new orders in. I am a lead shipper for UPS/ FedEx at the warehouse I work in. We build industrial and agricultural fans for warehouses and farms and things of that nature. Mostly though, I get to sit around and stretch my orders so they last all day, so therefore I have stuff to do the following day.

It's quite bad on my knees and feet though, stupid concrete.

And what would I do without the Hype's boards? I couldn't slack with style, that's what.

If you know AutoCAD like I do, then you get everything done that has to be pretty fast, so it leaves me with most of day to be here or messin around with projects at work.

my company is slacker central. everyone has an office (no cubicles) and everyone puts their desk in a position so that the monitor isn't visible from the door...that way when the higher ups walk in, we can minimize our chosen method of slackery.

personally, i spend about half the day (4 hours) slacking.

Thats great. Good for you.

I think though, in a job like that its a little different. Its something that real passion, creativity, and pride can be taken in. Obviously a person wouldn't be in the video game making business if they didn't enjoy video games, so I'm sure most if not all the members of staff really want to do their part to make a great game.

I took AutoCad as part of my apprenticeship.
What version do you use?

For me it all depends what manager is on that day, and what day it is, weekends no way too busy, weeknights yeah most of the time, weekdays sometimes.

And what sort of giant inflated thing do you have facing and taunting them?

Our next plan for the giant ape, is going to be delicate. The plan is to get one of those giant *****s and duct tape it to it, and take a couple of blow up sex dolls and duct tape it to the hands and turn the inflater back on, so it looks like it's holding naked girls when it blows back up.

I can slack a little as long as we're not busy in the office....I work for an internet company and around the holidays we do get a little busier but afterwards and during the summer I slack alot
