The Amazing Spider-Man 2 How should the Goblin look??? - Part 1

I think we can all agree that no one wants another power ranger Green Goblin. And I can also assume that very few people want the hulking goblin from the Ultimates. So how do you guys think the Goblin should look?

Personally, I want something really close to the comics. Not exactly the same thing from the comics, but something close to it. However, I really don't want the face to be a mask. If the face is gonna look like real flesh then I don't want it to be a removable mask. Instead, I wouldn't mind if what Norman injects himself with is something that changes him temporarily. (Like the Lizard). I think it'd be pretty cool if the Goblin could make facial expressions and laugh because its his REAL face and not a mask. Then when Norman changes back, he is cured but has his normal personality and his Goblin personality. Webb might make a compelling story if Norman's normal personality tries to convince him to not hurt people but his Goblin personality urges him to continue using the serum. Think about it, we could see his transformation in a dark room with only the moonlight to illuminate him. Then we can see his skin turning into a greenish color amd his ears becoming pointed. Then we can hear his screams of pain turn into a Joker-like laugh and showing his eyes slightly glowing yellow.

Neno_Kos, I agree with you for the most part; you are right in so many ways. There are ways to do a classic Goblin in today's modern setting. I just think Sony writers are lazy or have the mindset of it has to Ultimate, because Ultimate is more modern. Which I understand that, just don't always agree with that mindset. I thought there was a better way to do Lizard; but again, lazy writing "AND" that mindset prevailed....the Lizard failed imho.

Keep in mind however...we really don't exactly what Harry is; and, what is to come for Norman. Because Harry is on a Glider, is the reason for the huge assumption that Harry is "The Goblin". Slow down a bit, and lets see what Webb has in store....I for one don't see Harry as anything but the son with slight mutation, using the Glider, trying to do something. What that something is...is not quite clear. That statement, "what about Peter" can hugely be taken out of context, just for the sake of that trailer. I'm just saying.....

I don't believe that going with the modern Ultimate design makes the writers lazy. I think that the laziness comes into play when writers rely on the modern route to carry part of the character for them. For example, if Lizard was written darker, creepier, more aggressive, and more tragic I believe that the transformation route would have worked well (or at least better than it did in the movie).

That said, I believe that a hybrid of Ultimate and 616 is the way to go. If written correctly, he would be a great villain.

I wouldn't mind seeing something like this:

Slim him down, take away the fire shooting and replace it with the classic pumpkin bombs, and give him a glider. I think that the Green Goblin would be fantastic. In fact, I would love to see him in a violet cowl.

But I'm surprised that no one has noticed the similarity between the movie's "proto-goblin" and the truly awful design from the truly awful Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but something in the back of my mind says that TASM may be headed in that direction.

I don't want to see spikes or horns, but if they can do the best of both worlds and have bit of 616 and Ultimate Green Goblin I would be fine with it, but I don't want a monstrous Hulk-like beast. If the Goblin is normal size but is bulky, all green, and like you said wears a violet hood, I would be happy.

I also REALLY want Chris Cooper to deliver a cackle and be more playful with his voice-work and acting as the Goblin than Willem Dafoe was. Don't get me wrong, Willem was a perfect Norman Osborn/Green Goblin, but Chris could make him this time around less hammy (though still have some hammy moments) but make him dark, sinister, menacing, and go the Heath Ledger Joker route where it's familiar but a completely new and twisted take than what's been done in the past by other actors.

I want this as well. I'd love to see Cooper play GG as he should be, maniacal, psychotic, methodical, and evil. With the cackling laugh and all. That line he says in the Intl trailer already sounds pretty sinister. It was great. I want more.

The best part about Dafoe is his face. Yet they decided to cover it up with a mask and robbed the Goblin of such a cool look.

Yeah, I can see why people want him to be an older Joker in a future Batman movie. His face and smile... chilling. Raimi's crew could've easily added some prosthetics to his ears and chin, CGIed his eyes a different shade of color, and just made painted Dafoe green and it would've worked just fine. I'm not a big naysayer of the Power Rangers suit but a lot was lost as far as expression and the physicality of the face.

Hell, even with a breathing apparatus on his face, Tom Hardy emoted plenty as Bane.

The Power Rangers suit worked for the idea they were presenting in the film with the Glider and kinda like a suit of armor. But the mask was annoying. Dafoe's facial features and his overall look would have been epic for the Goblin. At least for Bane, you could still see his eyes, which can convey a ton of emotion on their own.

I'm sick of people saying "just do it exactly like TSSM", but in this situation a similar Goblin would be welcome

I had a dream that Harry Goblin got taken out in this, and then later on (possibly in ASM3) Norman Goblin came in and his costume looked kinda like a live action version of this:

And Norman Goblin killed Gwen and he was such a bad A. Goodness gracious it was fantastic.

Man, if we could just get something like this...that'd be awesome! I honestly don't feel like it's that far out of the realm of being possible. I mean, artists sculpt busts all the time that look "realistic" and they manage to get the job done.

I understand it's different in motion but I think, for the most part, these guys tend to nail down the designs.

You might conceivably get something like that. . . if Norman mutates. What you won't get is a *mask* that looks like that.

That's exactly what we are going to get from Cooper's Goblin

Ahhh. That looks awesome. :hrt:

Considering they're going to have Harry become Green Goblin before Norman, the formula could turn him into the big eared, wide-grin, grotesque goblin-like creature whereas Harry is more of a test, a prototype--- his skin color is the same but he has sharp teeth, the bluetooth makes it look like he has pointy ears, and the suit is still in beginning stages (hence the lack of armor completion on the left arm versus the right.) With Norma, all of these things can be perfect and he can become the ultimate goblin.

I think that Norman kinda already looks like a goblin to begin with. His skin color is pretty messed up already...

That looks good... except the smile. It reminds me too much of the Joker. Not that I don't like the Joker, but the Green Goblin is a separate and unique character.
I'm no expert at photoshop, but here's what I think he should look like:

The Green Goblin is a lot like The Joker. Both utterly crazy and criminally insane.

I would have to disagree.
The Goblin is insane, but from the comics I've read he's not exuberant about his crimes. I've read some reprints of his first couple appearances, and his dialogue seems intelligent.
Now, I know he laughs insanely in the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon. Though I really enjoy the cartoon, I don't think Goblin should be like that. That is more like Lex Luthor becomes Joker after taking some formula.

Yeah, I agree the exaggerated laughter makes him look a bit cartoony especially in the above image. I prefer him more serious like you did in your manip.

Come to think of it the design of that bust reminds me of this. And what the hell is that apple doin' there?

^ That's the evil Queen from the story of Snow White. The apple is poisonous or has a spell cast on it. Snow eats the apple and falls into a deep sleep.
