Also, Batman Begins kept the kiddies away in the same way that Batman Returns did.
Thats bull****.

Exactly. We're like a year out, of course they're not gonna be marketing to the general public now. That'd be ludicrous. When we get closer, they'll just advertise it like a normal movie, possibly doing some cool stuff like Joker "taking over" a TV show or commercial.
I think something that would make this kinda marketing more mainstream is having The Joker turn up at an awards ceremony, armed with goons that line the stage. He could tell the crowd that some other actor or something was going to be giving away this award, but at the present said actor is incapacitated -- show dressing room of actor on big screen and he's stiff in his chair with a giant smile cemented onto his face.
Are there any award ceremonies in December?
Considering I had lunch with some people today who said "What, they're making another film?"
After a short talk about batman and robin, they commented on how "They can't hope to beat the original" in reference to the joker.
This will be a tough cookie to crack I imagine, but I guess they'll do the whole crap loads of trailers, billboards etc and saturate the public with awareness.
Nolan has gone out of his way to make the joker different, not necessarily doing what is needed to represent him and this will alienate the public.

For TV promotion, The Joker should hack into television networks during commercial breaks and give cryptic messages to people watching.
You don't think that didn't play any role in Joker's "new" look?Yes, I am sure Nolan has been thinking "hmm - how can I make this character shocking"

I would love to see this
I would also love to see Joker actually take control of the CW's air waves and have a good 15 minutes of screen time - possibly with a hostage. Though that would be hard to pull off, and plus all 3 people that watch the CW will already be seeing the movie anyway.
Seriously. Joker in GQ. They NEED to do that. The sheer hilarity and irony in Joker making a front-page appearance, no less a photo shoot in that magazine is just too good to pass up.Oo or...Joker themed photo shoot anyone?

Too bad WB are idiots.
Not to rain on anyone's parade, but it is reasonable to think that Ledger will go out and about dressed up as The Joker and do this stuff? Its not like he IS The Joker, he still needs a script and everything...
