it amazes me how much talent and imagination is on these boards. I am constantly being impressed by your designs. So with that in mind how would you personally like to see your favorite hero's uniform interpreted on the big screen. Would you like an exact translation from the comic book or do you think it's time to update certain character's looks? I am very anxious to see your take on what would be your ideal translation. Have fun and please be respectful of each others work. for example what should Cap's uniform look like? So all you photshop wizards start your engines!!!!:word:

It depends on the character. Some simply would look good in real life, with minor tweaking (ex. Iron Man, Captain America), while others would look outright horrendous (ex. Wolverine, Thor) and would need to be radically updated.

I definately think Thor should use the MUA costume (the one in the cut-scenes, the modern I think).

Deadpool should keep his 616 costume, if Spidey's worked. Then DP's will work.

For Avengers I want Iron Man as is of course. Cap I want an amalgam of 616 and Ultimates. For Thor I'd like to see a real world translation of his 616 duds, use metal and leather with red and blue dyes. Giant man and Wasp should wear their Ultimates looks.

Daredevils red suit should be more flexible, closer to Spidermans materials with extra protection on the elbows knees and torso. No restricting leather as he's supposed to be almost acrobat like.

Fantastic Four is fine except Thing should be close to Hulks size. He needs to be CG.

I like that it was a guy in a padded costume... but I do think that up-sizing him with CG would have been the way to go. Just make him fill up more space... the opposite of how they made the hobbits smaller in LOTR. Perhaps up-size his arms too... They couldn't make them too bulky or else it would have restricted movement, but some CG could have given him the proper boulder-y (nice word huh?) look.

Overall... for the movies:

  • Spiderman was great. Dr. Oct was a good adaptation as well, with the trenchcoat and glasses. GG was hurting in a bad way... hated that get-up (harry's was even worse). Sandman looked awesome.
  • DD worked for me, but I agree that nylon / lycra with extra padding probably would have worked better. Kingpin was on the mark... but Bullseye was SO LAME.
  • Blade looked good with the long sleek lines from his jacket, as opposed to the short jacket in the book. Plus the body armor just looked cool. He was before the Matrix, so he was not a copy cat with the long leather coat. The rest of the characters had mostly street clothes and stylish get ups, which were fine. I wasn't sure about Nomak just having a hoody...
  • X-Men was HORRIBLE. The padded leather looked stiff and as impratical as spandex tights would have been. Plus the pants were like straight leg jeans, the way they hung. They should of had the Gold and Blue color scheme in there, and perhaps something that looked like Snake Eyes in the upcoming GI Joe movie. Form fitting, but kind of military. Storm's outfit was actually the best. Despite being black, it was cut just like the comic book. The villians tended to have normal looking clothes and attire. I would have liked a more vibrant red and flamboyant look for Magneto... not too mention that his helmet should have been thicker or somehow raised away from his head (like a baseball helmet, with padding inside). So that his face didn't look so compressed, and Ian's prominent nose wasn't so... prominent.
  • FF was fine overall... not much to there uniforms, so it played well on screen. Doom was all wrong in his look (as well as his adaptation). They improved the look in ROTSS... but not his adaptation.
  • Hulk... nothing to it. But a naked Abomination is a bit creepy to think about.
  • GR was OK... The jacket upgrade was a clever idea (taking another guys coat, then it morphed even more). But he could have just had that get-up manifest on its own, after transformation.
  • Punisher was fine (nothing outstanding, just the t-shirt... which was good)... Warzone looks like it has a cool look (need to see more).
  • Ironman was right on.
  • Cap ought to be an amalgamation. The 616 uniform has most of the classic elements that the movie needs. But the Ultimate uniform has some modern elements that may look better in live action.
  • Thor needs a more LOTR look (layered metal and fabric), but with his classic color scheme. Definitely the 616 hammer.
  • I would have Moonknight look like Guyver (with a hooded cloak of course).
  • Luke Cage would be in street clothes (leather jacket, jeans, Timberlands)
  • Deadpool... as-is in the book (nylon / lycra with joint padding)

In my Avengers movie I'd design the costumes, for the most part, exactly like this:
AvengersGroupPostertrial2.jpg

Captain America

* Combination 616 and Ultimate. Mostly Ultimates though.

* Thin layer of “vibranium chainmail” around the torso. (Only shown when “dressing/undressing”)

* Over that “advanced ceramic and titanium composite-disc-scale body armor” (modeled after dragon skin---see below) covering the torso. A thin NAVY BLUE stretchy fabric sewn over it (Lycra or Elastane). And a WHITE star on the chest. No stars on the shoulders.
* The same fabric covers the face; the famous Cap balaclava mask, with an WHITE “A” on the forehead (the rest of the team makes fun of it throughout the movie). No wings; instead: thick seams, like the ultimate cap.
* NAVY BLUE Pants: I like the cargo pants design. A lot of people don’t agree. Otherwise, a thicker combination of pleather-like material (I forget the name) and thermal neoprene.

* BRICK RED calf-high combat boots.
* Gloves are BRICK RED, same color as boots. Do not flare out as much; modeled after light-sparring fencing gloves.\

* BLACK utility belt with brown leather pouches modeled after US Amry S.I. MOLLE.
* Shield is classic round shield, red-white-red; blue and white star in the middle.

The blue torso armor is the toughest part, in its texture. Similar to Spider-man's costume webbing. I would base it off of something called Dragon Skin.

Instead of all the exterior padding and fabric used to cover the ballistic vest shown in the video, I would use the thin elastic fabric stated above, that would give the scale-mail texture. Maybe even muscle padding underneath to give it more shape.

Yeah I've seen that stuff used on futureweapons the company that created i think calls it Dragon skin. I thought about it being used on Cap too but I don't know if it'll look too bulky.

Funny I just looked at the picture and noticed it says dragon skin. Dumb me

Mercury... a very good (and somewhat specific) breakdown... I agree with all except the missing wings. Even if they are embroidered on, instead of protruding, they should be there.

THOR
I want him to look regal, but medieval and worn. I also want him to appear as if he has been in constant battle, because Asgard and Valhalla are one big war and feast.

  • Torso: Armor breastplate (Not sure about color) like in the picture in my last post with a crimson velvet cape held on by two silver brass rondels. While I do like the bluish-black color from the Ages of Thunder comic, something seems so rugged about the brick-red breastplate. I might also add two large intersecting belts across his chest, that form an X, and round buckles that when intersected form a circle. These pictures from Ages of Thunder for reference.

  • Belt: I really like the gold belt that spidey-dude gave Thor in the Avengers picture. I would add two more silver rondels to add to thor's 6-white-circle pattern. Otherwise, I would use the bluish black belt from the first Thor picture above.
  • Gloves: Leather bracer-wrappings around the wrist. There's something so powerful about a strong bare hand gripping the hammer--no need to sully it with a goofy glove.
  • Pants and boots: I have no strong opinion. I like the pants and boots from the 1st Thor picture above though. Something medieval but powerful.
  • Helmet: The one from the Avengers picture in my last post. Here's a closer view at the design. I would make it more marble or ceramic however. They used that marble-design in Hellboy 2 and LOTR for the elves and I liked it.

  • Hammer: 616 with a longer handle. You could even have it turn into the metal ultimate version when struck with lightning or something.

The rest of the Avengers, I'd do exactly the same as the picture above.
Wasp is a black leather catsuit with yellow padding sewn on for the abdomen sections. Ant-man is a primarily red and black (a little bit of blue) neoprene suit with circuitry woven in. The helmet is custom design IMPACT! racing helmet with a gas-mask and a custom silver visor (very similar to a motorcycle visor),with 6 holes with LEDS for eyes.

Yea, good point. Well obviously if I was heading design, art dept or directing, I wouldn't use the real thing--too bulky, not to mention costly. I would create a smaller, thinner replicas of the disks, or even portions of the discs fitted together to save thickness. I just did a quick drawing (excuse the sloppiness-i stress quick) of the disc sections separated to give you an idea. Each row would be raised further than the ones below them to give them that layered look. Either that or I'd plane each disk on an angle.

I did a manip of thor a while ago and this is pretty much exactly how i would like him to look on the big screen

For Luke Cage he should wear for the movie is the mondernized version of his original costume that he wore in House Of M Avengers. Yellow t-shirt, blue geans, and timberlene boots. He should also wear the type of silver chain belts you see in stores.

Another costume he should wear is the MAX version. Silver bubble vest, dark gray pants, and timberlene boots.

Another costume should be the 90's vesrion. Black leather jacket, red shirt, blue jeans, big silver belt, and combat boots.

The Black Panther doesn't need much change but this is pretty movie-friendly interpretation:

Oh its not my work, I just found it

:word:This is exactly the type of creative ideas I was looking for! IMHO this would be a good interpretation for the big screen. I always thought the guy who played Sayid on Oz would be a great choice for the Panther.

:word:Great ideas thanks for your participation. I definitely think this would be the way to go for Thor. It should not be an actually costume but rather his normal uniform. Could some one do an interpretation of this design adding the 616 elements? I also like the Wasp and Ant man designs as well. I often thought of Greg Kinear as hank Pym. Again I appreciate all the thought you but into this. It is greatly appreciated!!....................Keep em coming!!!

Dragon skin is a good option. I would also Consider liquid kevlar as well!

Glad you like it! My hope is to have this thread act as a think tank for superhero movies! There have been other threads but not one so centralized. As the man said keep those manips coming!!!:word:

I drew lots of these when I was a kid. It was fun, heh
