How would you have done Soundwave?

I smell the stink of opportunistic fanboys looking for a medium for bashing.:whatever:

:whatever: x 100

It doesn't change the fact that it's an awesome design though.

Awesome design indeed. If you weren't such an avowed apologist for everything concerning the designs for the TF movie, you'd be able to see what makes this updated Soundwave more faithful to the original G1 design than all the unnecessary changes that give the current movie robot designs a muddled confusing look.

This is almost too good NOT TO BE REAL!  :trans: :trans:

Love to see what they do with his minions.

timshinn has been working wonders over at DM's boards. He's been creating more G1-like faces that work well with the new "style" of angular type Transformers.

He's coolio.

my only beed with the head is that he wouldn't have much expression. other than that....that's a damn fine concept for the sequel!

Mass shifting was one of the coolest things in TF. Done right and with the right special effects it could be done IMHO.

Yikes. I have to disagree with you there. Mass-shifting is cheating, in my opinion. You know how you can't fold a piece of paper in half more than eight times? It's like that. There's no way Soundwave could go from being as big as he is to being a tape player and have it be believable to general audiences.

By the very nature of Soundwave's character, he should not have much expression. He's supposed to be enigmatic, so whatever he's feeling or thinking, you're not going to see it on the surface anyway.

^ And I agree, mass-shifting is totally cheating, and even in the cartoon it was very far-fetched and silly.

All it takes is one very quick scene with an army General explaining it to a group of politicians or something. A blackboard with some weird interspacial diagram behind him. You're done. If audiences can buy the hokey explanation for organic, naked time travel in Terminator, they can buy this.

It takes good writing tho... and a convincing delivery. And, we're talking Michael Bay here. So you're probably right ultimately.

Mass-shifting isn't anything as simple as folding paper, it's much more complex.

I think mass-shifting could be used in future sequels with a good explanation, as mentioned above.

Also, from the leaked script of the movie...
the Allspark is a big Cube, but gets transfromed into a small cube when Bumblebee touches it. So if we can have a mass-shifting cube, why can't we have mass-shifting Transformers as well?

While I agree with the above statement, the use of another alternative form eg Soundwave as a Communications Truck, is quite exceptable if it fits the reference of the character. That and IMO Soundwave probably wouldn't look as good transforming from a Boom Box because he will probably turn out being some fugly looking thing like Frenzy.

That fanip is INCREDIBLE, and perfect for this Transformers movie world.

I think he should only have Ravage...just for the fact that, he parks, sees an Autobot, then opens a door to unleash a vicious dog, that'll be cool to see.

The other ones, Laserbeak, I wouldn't care for and just because Frenzy's already in the first movie.

The thing about mass shifting is that it completely defies logic. When something happens in a movie that you know cannot physically happen even through a stretch of the imagination, it usually will just make you laugh. If they were going to do mass shifting, then they might as well have given Optimus Prime his trailer that magically disappears whenever he transforms. Having said that, Soundwave should be a communications truck.

No it doesn't. It's based on the same exact (sci-fi) principles as Warp. All you need is two sentences: General speaking to troops: "It seems these beings posses technology to shift part of their mass into a dimensional pocket... the result is that they can assume the shape and weight of almost any object. They can be almost anywhere... that radio, your phone, your gun." ;-) And the movie goes on.

I mean, I still cringe at the idiocy of the "only live flesh can pass through time" B/S that's in Terminator (how about your hair... and why didnt you stick a laser gun in your belly cavity or something). But, somehow, Cameron made it work!

all of the pics in this thread of soundwave are awesome!!

While that Soundwave is awesome, it seems to transform into a smaller car than that Balkan. Seriously I think the robot mode has far less kibble and mass than the alt mode.
Still awesome though.

I'd be willing to bet my paycheck that the pics in this thread are actual design concepts that Bay and crew reviewed. They are too good and too professionally presented to be fan pics, especially when compared to the caliber of fan pics which appear on the internet, even the good ones. The original post asks if there are any designs that stay in line with the style used in the film and these pics are too close for me to believe they aren't directly from Dreamworks. It's very possible that Soundwave was rejected in leu of fewer characters for development sake.

That being said, Soundwave should turn into an iPhone. And he ejects thousands of MP3 virus robots, as well as display hundreds of your favorite photos when you turn him sideways.

Nope, Crimson Dynamo posts a lot in the fan art section of the Hype (or at least he used to) and on DM's boards and Timshinn is a DM poster as well. Both fans...extremely devoted fans.

Not to mention that Frenzy was originally going to be Soundwave, so they already had a "soundwave design"

I liked the idea of Soundwave as a Balkan MK6 with Ravage as the spear tire and Laserbeak as the satellite dish. You could also incorporate Rumble as an ATV.

hello ok i just registered just because i wanted to comment on this subject, so i think the v3 of the first set of soundwave designs rocks and with ravage as the spare tire love that. i have also noticed that more people seem to gravitate towards timshinn's design i was just wondering why? its not that i think its bad, as i couldn't do anything anywhere near as good as it but to me it seems a little strange looking, the whole upper body and arms just don't sit right with me, maybe it does fit in with the movie designs better and look exactly like soundwave but i would be happier if they made him look like that other design to me it screams soundwave even if it looks less like him if u see what i mean. thanks for your time

Well for starters its a fan manip so it wont be perfect, but it is a good job. It also seems to be in the same style as the Bayformers while still being recognisable to fans as Soundwave.

Also welcome to the hype.

yeah it is good i wont disagree there, i just think the other is more pleasing to my optic sensors. also sorry if i seemed too critical about timshinn's, its just like so many other people i am a huge fan of soundwave and i'd probably be the only one to say this but i wouldn't be truely happy seeing soundwave look like his design i dunno why maybe i'm just an anti-bayformer activist in denial:wow:
