Hype Survivor HYPE SURVIVOR 21 - Day One, Part One discussion thread!

2) I've seen it, I've done it. The game can get emotional. Even if its just on a message board, a large part of this game is building up trust and then, backstabbing.

I mean, why are people flipping out, everyone should expect a slightly shady game from matt.

I really don't see anyone "flipping out" but this is like any debate on a board where 2 people just can't agree on something.

This probably has a lot to do with why you're out. I can guarantee there are people who are very strongly allied with each other... and had made those alliances even before Matt had begun the game. With some of the experienced players... there were alliances formed even before the decision whether or not to play in this game was even made.
But not to harp on the same point, but I just feel like alliances exist even without Hype Survivor existing. And unless you get some random newbie from the on-topic boards, you're never going to have anywhere close to a really unbias source. So letting one person everybody pretty much likes from the first round to come back isn't a big deal to me. For that reason.
As Matt said in his intro... this game is about way more than the challenges. It's the strategy and the alliances that make or break you.
I understand that fully.

Matt also said he was having the game at the Hype to interject new players, situations, and to make the game more interesting.
One could wonder why, with your continued protestations of how 'unimportant' this is and that it isn't a "life or death matter", and it doesn't mean anything you're so hung up on this - particularly since you've been voted out. Why not just move on with your life and forget about the game entirely? It shouldn't make a difference to you one way or the other what happens in the game.
That's simple: I never have any problem debating pointless things. Do you really thing talking about what was the best Batman costume or whether or not Venom should have been in Spider-Man 3 is really important discussion? It isn't. Not really. But still, I like to hear other people's opinions on things; that's what makes it worthwhile for me.
The way you've been carrying on, however, suggests that it's important to you... which, in turn, suggests that you still have a 'stake' in the game somehow... which makes your entire line of argument suspect.
But I don't have a stake in it. That's probably why I'm enjoying talking about it so much. I don't have any deeply held conviction to get all huffed up over, I just have a point I'm kinda investigating.
^ See? That's how Survivor works.
Again, I understand how survivor works. And this...insinuation that I don't know about the game simply because I disagree with you is, truthfully, wearing on me.
You don't KNOW the actuality. You don't know that "Poster X" (who we will assume was playing in this game) will be unbiased or that s/he won't remain loyal to an alliance s/he made any more than I or anyone else know to the contrary. So the best we can work with is the appearance. And by appearances, it would seem more unbiased to not have a poster who has not been playing guest host a round.
But my point is, I'd like to find out the actuality. Instead of remaining ignorant to it, and going purely on appearances.

Toven? Should I build up your trust this game and then some how screw you as host? I think its my turn to back stab you. Yeah, it was me, then you, then you skipped me and went again (:cmad:), then me, then you. Yeah, its my turn I think :cwink:

As I said you make a fair point Daisy, do you want it in blood ?:cmad::oldrazz:

I think looking at all sides there really is no way to be sure and the risk is all the same no matter who we get but really as someone that has played before, do ppl really cheat as guest host and do ppl really get upset about getting voted out of the game ?

Did no one tell you? I only accept signatures in blood.

And yes... players cheat (there's only been one former player who was a guest host and it was apparently disasterous, but I don't know that it was due to cheating) and yes, some people really get upset about being voted out. Survivor is established enough at this point that some loyalties are like those to football teams. :wow: There are some long memories. People remember previous games and will sometimes take others out based on things that happened in previous games.

I think we should get to the requisite "nostalgically reflecting on prior Survivors" about Day 7, which will lead into the inevitable "Who hosted and who won which Survivors - and were they Reader or the Brodie restarts?" discussion (because no one seems to copy and paste this to a safe place so it needs to be redone every game  ).

Survivor's not a game... it's a lifestyle. :o

:woot:

Just don't be Phere and backstab when you're set to win, simply so you can say "I backstabbed someone" :cwink:

Dude, I was one Socrates away from making the game interesting.:cmad: :csad:

Erz, stop sucking up.

Does that work?Meh, worth a try. Hey matt great game loving your work, is that a new hair cut it's super, did you brush your teeth they look super, is that a new combine harvester it's super, wow what loverly hands you have there.....super.Oh sod it it's too early for this ****.

Ok, since you guys are getting antsy, Round 2 will probably start tomorrow at some point.

You guys will compete to see who the captains of each tribe will be. There will then be a draft where captains pick the tribes, then Daisy will be allowed to pick what tribe she wants to go in (and give an extra member to). Then we will start Day 2.

How you know if you're playing Survivor well: you want to shoot yourself in the head.

Y'know, all this talk of bias has given me a smashing idea for deciding captains. Maybe I'll let those you voted out vote on who should be tribe captains :cwink:
