So no denials issued by the filmmakers yet? Holy crap, this is for realz.

Yeah, even Sony was quick to shoot down that insipid rumor about an aunt May movie.

Or...here is a thought...how about we bring the characters to life the way they are in the comics....wow! Its so crazy it just might work...oh that would require Marvel to do it...sorry Fox give it up!!!

Impossible, this is probably 95% accurate to actual Fox meetings.

I got here late, so I may have missed the part where Kebbel said "This is all Doom is going to be", or that Doom being an antisocial programmer (which I read as "probably really smart and good with technology") precludes some of the more classic attributes of the character. If the angle is that Doom is sort of "behind the scenes" and perhaps something of a mystery at first in his machinations, then the concept makes sense to a point. I don't know, I hear anti-social programmer, and I think Anonymous. Maybe Doom's being set up as something of an anti-hero at the outset?

Or Kebbel was just taking the piss. We shall see.

I don't think Kebbel really told us much of anything other than that maybe Victor's surname has been changed. This is hardly a complete portrait of a character.

Anti-social programmer who uses the online handle "Doom" on blog sites.

I don't think Kebbel would lie about his role. More negativity is the last thing this movie needs

Yeah. You know they ****ed up Doom when this seems like the most probable protagonist...

No it's not.. what have you seen from this film, that indicates it's going to bomb?

Exactly why I've been saying that we need a sticky thread with all the evidence against this film, since it's so tedious to keep repeating it over and over again for the hundredth time.

No it's not.. what have you seen from this film, that indicates it's going to bomb?

It's starting to become a lack of what I am seeing that is scaring me. The leaked pictures didn't do the hype for this film any favors at all and we have yet to see a single official picture from this movie and it is suppose to be in theaters in August right?

Well the new TMNT came out in August, and we didn't get a trailer until March.

Conversely, a person could just as likely ask the question - what have you seen from this film, that indicates that it isn't going to bomb? :oldrazz:

We've seen enough to know it won't be Fantastic Four. We can't really say if it will bomb, but if it's not Fantastic Four, I have to hope it bombs lest we get stuck with a whole string of non-Fantastic Four films that prevent real Fantastic Four films from being made.

I haven't checked the thread in a while, so I apologize if this has already been talked about.

If it is deemed the Dr. Doom in this film is too different from the comic character - either due to the name, appearanced, role, etc - would there be legal precedent for the rights to him reverting on grounds that, since he's not sufficiently similar to the licensed character, he wouldn't count for the 7 years usage? Would that be a possibility, or is he too tied to the FF rights that he can't revert independently of the other characters?

I can answer this question since I saw a similar answered on AMC movie talk in relation to World War Z. As long as a studio owns the movie rights they can do whatever they want and stamp whatever name on top of it. In said example if WB was inclined they could of put Man of Steel 2 as the title of the movie World War Z and been within their legal rights to said book.

The cast, the crew, the premise of the movie, literally everything people have said about it, the complete lack of official promotion.

And that movie totally sucked ass. What's your point?

Failing as an F4 movie and failing as a movie could be two different things in this case. It is obvious that this movie is going to look, feel, be characterized very little like the UFF and nothing like the 616 F4. So, in those regards its pretty easy to say that it will fail as an F4 movie of any type. As far as a superhero movie about 4 people and a crazy internet dude, it might be ok....

The 1993 deal between Marvel and FOX was a licensing agreement - not a sale. Marvel retained an ownership interest in the box office and both parties agreed to a reversion period. Marvel didn't sell the rights in full to the X-Men and FF character families and wipe their hands of them.

FOX filed a claim that the "Mutant X" TV show was harmful to the studios cinematic efforts. Though FOX lost the appeal, both parties eventually settled. Disney/Marvel appears to have a similary strong case regarding FFINO's potential to harm Marvel's First Family.
