Iron Man "i Am Iron Man"??? (*spoiler*)

Craptastic four was awful, where's my X-force movie with Cable?

The originator of the thread doesn't seem like an :stark fan so much as a stickler for comic book cliches.

"A superhero movie that breaks from the formula?!! THAT FRIGHTENS AND CONFUSES ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

So why not bomb a charity gala that Stark is attending and get rid of him once and for all? Who would choose to fight him as IM instead?

I have no problem with him announcing he was Iron Man. If they want to switch it up and give people doubts that he is just have Tony in Public somewhere while Rhodey is in the Iron Man suit. Hopefully he’ll put on the Iron Man one before he becomes War Machine.

I'm back after the rollercoaster ride that was Iron Man.Great action, good performances especially Jeff Bridges as Obadiah Stane.I thought he was awesome as the villian.I was shocked that he revealed his identity but i'm cool with it.Kudos to Favreau.

You're sorely mistaken. On the contrary, if you took out the time to "thoroughly" read my entire thread (*instead of what you chose to read*), then you would discover that I am quite the fan of Iron Man. I am a huge booster of this film, enjoying it immensely. I am also a longtime Iron Man collector of the comics. However, I personally prefer the original notion of him concealing his identity. I feel that it is not so much, as you so simply put it, "cliche', but rather demonstrating a little extra security on Tony's part. I also feel that it adds a sense of mystery and mystique. Not to mention a greater sense of nobility to the character of Tony Stark/ Iron Man. I find that in any literature, fictitious or otherwise, that one's actions are much more noble when not bragging about them, but rather keeping them safegaurded in all humility. I also prefer that when people in the films look up and see Iron Man, they refer to him as "Iron Man" and not Tony. At that point they might as well entitle the movies, "The Invincible Tony Stark". Either way, this is my own opinion. You're certainly entitled to yours. In any event, the revelation of Tony Stark will certainly not deter me from seeing the next Iron Man installment. It's was an extremely entertaining film.

I'm sorry to see that you're frightened and confused.

Who would even attempt to do that, knowing full well the technology/security measures he has available? Not to mention being on SHIELD's metaphorical payroll. You try to take him out, it's already a death wish.

while i admire Favreau for going this route, there are many reasons for the secret identity, not just to protect loved ones (because you can tell from just about every superhero, it has NEVER helped the damsel in distress), it protects him while he is a normal individual, and he can't work as IM all day all night. he needs a break too. and random person will stop him and say, listen, my buddy stole my CDs, can you get it back from, and when he says no i cant, he's a *****bag all of a sudden.

so it's also there to protect himself. that's why i don't have a problem if Lois lane knows about clark, or MJ and Harry knowing about spiderman, because that not feasible to think that the people close to you won't figure it out. but to annouce it to the whole world, and in a press conference...i don't think it's very smart.

It's a great ending for Stark to reveal his identity and not be afraid to announce to the world that he is Iron Man. Sure beats Clark donning a pair to hide the fact that he's Superman. :)

well.....Tony could always make a deal with the demon Mephisto, retconn the press conference, and make the world forget that he is IM......oh wait..........

For some reason, I think in the 2nd movie something will be done to make people not think he is IM

I'm guessing if they go with the comics, Rhodes will don the suit and I'm sure there will be a scene or two where Iron Man(Rhodes) and Stark are seen together.

That's one easy and most likely possible way they can do this.

hahahaha!
On the other hand, has anyone considered that Tony was playing with the reporters before actually informing them that ironman is his bodyguard? You know, the press conference could be concluded like this: "i am joking. he is actually my bodyguard".

One more thing: i heard that Warmachine serves as a more low key player for the more ambiguous missions that ironman could not take due to his high profile and association with Stark. How is Warmachine low key? I would get it if he was a ninja, but we are talking about a flying armour with tank turrets on its shoulders!

Yeah, probably a good chance of that.

This was one of the best endings to a movie ever. Not only was it really funny and surprising, it's also faithful to the comics.

It was hilarious, while he was giving his speech my friend turned to me and he was like "Looks like they're going with the bodyguard angle..." - then Stark says, "I am Iron Man!" and my friend goes "...or not!"

There was no need to drag that angle out for another movie or two. I'm glad he's public.

Gotta agree with the thread starter here, i didnt like that ending at all, in fact i found it sorely dissapointing. Stark has now put himself, his friends, his employees, and everyone who has ever come into contact with him, or ever will, in danger. Smart movie for a so-called genius, poor ending IMO.

not to mention himself when he goes to bed with a beautiful model, or when he's jogging around the block, or when he out to eat dinner.

i kinda would have prefered that also.

but i definitely see them picking up right there, and them somehow making it into a joke. that's the reason why the movie didn't go beyond the initial GASP.

I hope so, a reveal would be far more effective at the end of IM2 IMO. Though i personally dont see how they will get out of this now.

The guy basicly did what no one else ever did, make a one man war machien.

I'd be shouting it from the rooftops if I'd done that.

I like the boldness of it, but I perfer patience, after all good things come to he who waits, and stands with decades of already proven work. Yeah I like that it stays true to the new comics, but I would've like to see a sequel or two inbetween the reveal.

Couldnt agree more, as i said above, a reveal at the end of the 2nd movie would have been much more effective IMO.

I loved the movie and the ending (nice change of pace and I felt it further pushed Tony as a cocky anti-hero), but it does kinda leave some problems.

I mean realistically, if a villain wanted him dead, they could just hire a sniper to wait until he's defenseless and BAM, he's dead. No body guards can protect you from everything, and he can't have a high security system around him 24/7. All it would take is one head shot and he's done for.

So unless he decides to permanently stay in the IM suit :stark, then it's not very plausible.

But anyways, IM2 is gonna be sick! :im:

Iron Man ain't no Peter Parker. He likes to live dangerously. He lives like any day could be his last. He is the man with everything and nothing. It is totally in his character!

So Tony is always putting his loved ones and employees in danger? Sorry, but i just found it a stupid move.

Tony Stark lives for Tony Stark. He has no family, his employees are all over the world. And knowing your boss is Iron Man isn't as dangerous as you would think. That just means security is even more improved upon and you're probably safer.

Well, correct me if I'm wrong here, but that's how it is in the comics. And after watching that movie, how could you not see that coming? That's totally in character for Stark. He's a guy that likes to have it all. It would be impossible for him to resist telling the public.
