BvS "I Am Legend" DID predicted Superman versus Batman!

Well, considering that all three of Bale's Batman films were critically acclaimed and financially successful (with the second and third ones being massive successes), I think it's safe bet that at least a few people liked him in the role. Meanwhile, SR was so divisive and its box office so underwhelming that WB eventually realized the best thing to do was cut its ties to the whole thing. And people can blame the script and direction all they want, but I'll always maintain that Routh's lifeless performance did nothing to help the matter.
I'm of the opinion that the Dark Knight trilogy and SR would've performed just the same with or without their respective leads. Neither to me struck as standouts, so regardless of how their careers have gone, a face-off would not have been lopsided as people believed.

But that's neither here nor there. It's not happening and I'm far more glad we got the Supes and Batman we have now.

Yeah, I'm a big fan of Bale's Batman but I don't think the Nolan Bat-world would have fit in a world with super-powered beings.

I thank Nolan for making TDKR because he made it impossible for a sequel to be made to that movie (just like Schumacher did with Batman & Robin).

Well... there are completely different reasons why neither of those films will ever have a sequel.

In that case, I'm glad Robinov eventually got sh**canned. That would have been horrible. The idea of an actor as limited as Routh trying to go toe-to-toe with Bale just sounds like a trainwreck.

I don't think Routh was limited, it was the script he got and he did his best with what he did. I can envision a Bale/Routh BvS just as easily as a Bale/Cavill one. It's all contingent on the script and approach.

I know people keep bringing Joss Whedon up, but he did a marvelous job handling the various characters and backgrounds in The Avengers without making it wildly uneven or making the characters OTT from their separate movies. I fully believe that had Nolan been more 'flexible', the studio got the right director (like WB/DC's answer to Joss) and provided Bale had a good script to work with, I think a BvS with Nolan's Batman would work.

I refuse to believe the notion that Nolan's Batman wouldn't be compatible with other superheroes, because it could work. I think there's even better story potential using that particular interpretation. The mindset that "it can't work" is ridiculous.

It can't work because there is no way to make it believable that Bale's Batman would be a threat to Superman.

At least it'd be believable to see Routh's Superman as Batman's ***** (all thanks to the cringeworthy Lex Luthor scene in Superman Returns).

The problem is that you're looking at the "it can work" solely from a characters standpoint. You haven't looked at it from a story/plot progression standpoint. Which is to say, that connecting Man of Steel and TDKT would open up plot holes when they didn't need to be opened up (Bruce Wayne's and Gotham's arc conclusion as cathartic vs. the Justice League needing a Batman, Nolan's realistic world vs. Snyder's fantasy tone). These binaries clash with one another, which means that they aren't really compatible for the Justice League project.

Yeah, I totally would have been more worried about the seasoned, experienced, Oscar-winning actor than the guy who landed the role of a lifetime because he spilled coffee on himself in front of Bryan Singer.

Most people like to believe that Singer just gave the role to Routh and that Singer chose him from "Out of the blue".

But, Routh had given a screen test for McG's Superman back in 2004 (where Cavill had also screen-tested).

so, he was already in the list WB's of contenders (along with Cavill) when SR's casting process was taking place, Singer selected him afterwards.

I also remember reading (source) that Routh did try for Smallville's Clark Kent, Tom Welling got that role.

That's true. I do think that would give more opportunity for the writers to explore Bale's Bruce detective skills (shown briefly in TDK and TDKR) and the events of MOS would cause him to come out of retirement.

If only Whedon wasn't contracted to Marvel, I think he could pull off tying together Bale's Batman and Cavill's Superman in one movie. And he could do it without retconning anything, and the man does his homework.

I still don't think ANY movie Batman will pose any threat to MOS Superman, and I have no idea how they will make it appear that he does. I suspect the film's screenwriter is scratching his head at this very moment thinking the same thing. I suppose it could be similar to how Iron Man could handle Thor, but that's a powered, robotic suit. Affleck's Batman just looks really stout, let's hope he has some cool toys to work with.

I'm envisioning a "World's Finest" style meeting...

I prefer the Bat logo we're getting opposed to the battle axe looking one in I Am Legend. I also prefer the MOS one as well, two great logos. It's a shame they're followed by a cheesy title.

Oliver Queen deserves to be part of your avatar, that'd be amazing. Just saying. :)

That Superman Returns 'S' :barf:

I was never a fan of that promotional "S." The bevel is far too deep and the curves are too sharp for my taste.

That being said, I loved the one that was on the suit with a more subtle bevel and softer curves. And I love the "S" even more when it's just a flat vector.

How is it a prediction that a film which HAS been in the works off and on the past 15 years is finally being made?

so basically until the movie comes out the zombie apocalypse has taken place...seems legit...

Oh and Christian Bale is the only one I want to see in this film don the bat cape and cowl btw, personally.

christian bale is the only person i want ever to still be batman, but that reality is over.
