The make-up provides a different stance on the character, but I don't see how it adds more to the character that permawhite couldn't have done itself.

A few weeks ago I posted a theory on why Nolan would choose makeup over permawhite; I dug it up -

But he may also be going down a new thematic road, one that's yet to be explored in a Batman movie (or ANY superhero movie, that I can think of). What if Joker is, literally, the ANTI-BATMAN? A "normal" man that transforms himself into something special, something "terrifying." Something to, instead of strike fear into criminals, strike fear into innocent people. A symbol of anarchy that criminals can rally behind, just like Batman is a symbol of order and hope. The makeup would work in a way that it is his self-made "character", just like Batman's cape and cowl is.

Now its all a matter of opinion on whether or not you'd find this to be a suitable "alternate" take on the character, but I personally think it'd be an interesting one, if we can shed our attachment to the classic Batman/Joker relationship.

Maybe something bad happened to him in his past like Bruce. Maybe not. Maybe he is just pure evil and has been that way since birth. But for whatever reason, he chooses to take up the mantle of a sick clown, instead of having it thrust upon him. And that idea, I think, could be very scary if pulled off.

i trust MF and anjow. i think they are always saying the truth.
but the truth is that this is what a person told miranda. could be changed. :woot:

it looks like its 80% paint. so to be it perma white this would be a hard twist even for a hardcore spoiled batman-fan.

I speak with Miranda often (www.jowforums.tk :cwink:), and I'm not speaking on her be-half or anything. BUT - She still maintains what her source told her. And he's been accurate as hell before. Her personal opinion sways, but even mine does at times too. To be honest, I don't know the truth nor do I have any hope of finding it out before July 17, 2008 @ 12am.

There is a lot of false info going around with the dummy scripts that were made up. But this is one of those things we will never truley know until we see the movie.

Then again...we don't truley know if Joe Chill killed the Waynes in Begins (watch that shyt again, so many quick cuts. Coulda been a sniper....Deadshot? :ninja: lol)

A raggedy Joker leaving makeup to deteriorate on his face and not washing frightens me far more than just not being a perma-clown.

Seems much more menacing to me too.

I find that when I'm reading horror, or watching a horror film. If it's a story about a big green monster with a zipper running up its back, it's laughable rather than scary. The more realistic (I hate using that word since coming on these boards), the more easier to be scared because it's easier to imagine it being REAL.

Yes, that is indeed a very frightening concept and a very original take on a wonderful character.
Imagine John Wayne Gacy adopting his Pogo the Clown persona forever, never washing up, letting the make-up literally rot on his face and never coming back to reality, now that is truly a creepy idea.

AND...maybe Batman will start to parallel the Joker in this way, spending more and more time as Batman. The only thing that separates him from the Joker is hanging onto Bruce Wayne, his humanity - which is what Joker has given up entirely.

I would want someone like Batman to face such a monster. Bogeyman vs Bogeyman. I could see how our last line of defense would be a lunatic who dresses as a bat and takes justice into his own hands, because some men can't be reasoned with etc... I can picture that clown from hell just wanting to watch the world burn.

 Great post.

Lol, I don't think Mr. Socko means he's frightened by the Joker in this way, it means he fears about the artistic and/or story choices they're going with.

It is creepy, certainly, but it has some practical problems that bother me, having as they do certain implications for the character.

If The Joker were to habitually apply makeup until it could not be removed, then that would go some way to an acceptable compromise.

Is that possible? I'm not saying it's a bad idea at all, i'm just actually curious if a certain makeup can do that..

A 9 year old Joker killed Bruce's parents?

:ninja:

I'd pay to see that. :cwink:

I see that Nolan is becoming the new Lucas around here.

Elizabeth I.

Something tells me that make up technology has moved on a little since the Tudor era. I don't think there's any make-up today that 'rots', or contains lead/arsenic. I'd take Caine's comments with a pinch of salt. He could be simply refering to the Joker having a generally messed up face, and using 'make-up' in the sense of what Heath as an actor uses. In fact, he could be talking about how Heath was reluctant to take the make-up off during filming.
