thats what it seemed like to me, it seemed like out of all the things to mention why that. Also it could be a finger to the fans that were following this and debating about the permawhite issue

I see where you are coming from, though I certainly doubt Nolan is paying that much attention to us, lol! As far as having the two clowns in the van yap about the Joker and makeup, its sounds to me (and I qualify this by saying that I have not seen the prologue at all) that a) maybe these guys are easing any anxiety they might have about their big heist by carrying on a conversation, *****ing about the fact that the guy who planned the job and brought them in on it decided (to their knowledge) not to even show up,and they happen to mention a rumor heard 'round the Gotham underworld or b) maybe its Mr J himself adding to his own legend....just a thought, though

I hope you are kidding. Head on over to the Spider-Man 1 board and even to this day you will find many who hate the Goblin costume, me being one of them. But again, as much as I disliked Gobby's look, I still really enjoyed the movie.

Yeah for real. I can't tell you how many times I have heard "Power Ranger villain" at in the Spider-Man forums. :o There was a great piece of concept art for the Green Goblin that looked amazing but I can't find it. :(

This was one of the first scenes to be filmed (I believe) so it would have been done long before the make up thing was an issue for fans.

Maybe he gets bleached later in the movie.

And to this point, I honestly see no reason whatsoever, besides pleasing a few fans.

In the comics, the chemical bath is what transforms him into the Joker. In this film he already starts out as the Joker. The chemical bath will offer no real outcome if this is the case. The bleaching is suppose to serve as a catalyst, what can it do here if he's already a maniac who kills people, plays tricks, and dresses like a clown with face paint and green hair.

How do I say this...it would be like making a Batman movie where Bruce's parents aren't killed...but he becomes Batman anyway...then once he is Batman, his parents are murdered...what purpose will it have served by then if he's already Batman? Seeing what I'm saying.

Though most know that I do not care one way or another I think he may have something done to him. We just won't ever see it.

In the prolouge to hear that they are clearly saying "I heard he wears clown makeup..." To me thats a set up for Nolan's twist. As well the line:

"What doesn't kill you...makes you.....STRANGER...." To me that sounds like he is saying something terrible did happen to him, a chemical bath what have you, they just won't say anything about it, but I have a feeling now there is a Nolan twist with the Joker, we will find out its not make up on him or most of it is not.

So to me the way Nolan is doing it he is not giving him an origin, but hinting towards one that no one can really say one way or another how it happend.

he applies the makeup to exadurate his scars but once he puts it on it is never renewed which gives him a skin desease this is why his hair looks blonde at the roots too

and this is the official wor from the makeup artist lindey hemming

infact here is a quote:

"he doesnt even have "clown" makeup, as such.he's just somone who exaduratesthe scar on his mouth.what the director has done, which is so clever, is that the joker has left the makeup and just let it rot off. it is never renewed. hes got a big, wide mouth and it gradually almost looks like a bad skin disease"

Yeah I threw that theory out there a long time ago. What if at somepoint we see Batman give The Joker a chemical bath and that causes the makeup he has on to never be able to come off.

Good post. Maybe the so called bleaching will actually be replaced by a skin disease brought on by the toxic make-up. Either way, I think he will be pale like a ghost.

Alright let's say he IS bleached.

If so then I'd bet it's already happened when the movie starts, later to be revealed in the film. I don't see them having him start out as the Joker then be bleached.

The pre-TDK anime short films come to mind........

Ditto.

If you wear war paint(which i'm assuming is what he puts on, since war paint is the hardest to take off, it even leaves a bad rash afterwards) and never wash it off, I wouldn't doubt it'll effect your skin and by the time it 'rots off', your face will look even worse with blotches of white covering your face, black around your eyes, and red on your lips/scar. It may not look 100% clean white/black/red, but those colors will permanently stay on your face.

In my opinion.

I am just saying would it really be so bad if TDK ended with the Joker getting a chemical bath by Batman and left for dead and we get a small scene at the end showing he is not dead and in the third we see Dent and him team up both blaming Batman for their disfigurements and going at him with an even more personal vendetta.

He probably gets worse and worse (make-up rotting, Batman beating him up, burnings ?), as it's been rumoured, as the film goes on and by the end looks like that zombie clown we've seen on the empire cover. Also somehow kind of like the Terminator.

I think that scenario would kind of make the Joker and Two-Face redundant. Plus, I don't really think the Joker "blames" Batman for anything because he enjoys being so free--especially if, as it appears--he chooses to look like a clown anyway.

Plus I'd like to see the Joker and Two-Face taking each other on to some degree in the third movie.

I honestly would hate that, I'd feel jipped, like I didn't really get the full Joker in the first 2 hours.

It's like making a Spider-Man movie where Peter Parker fights crime in a red and blue suit, then at the end of the movie he is bitten by a radioactive spider.

Agreed. From the empire and wizard pics, that looks like what we're getting. A very creepy Joker, indeed:up: .

Here's an idea, the Joker had a terrible paint accident whilst painting his house *nod*. on a more serious note i like the 'rotting war paint' way this Joker is goin

It's more realistic to just have him be a friggin psychopathic maniac who digs the face paint. It fits better inot the realistic world of nolans batman. Seriously, if you took a dip into bleaching chemicals or any kinf of toxic chemicals (like in burton's batman or the comics) you wouldn't be walkin' away with a grin.

You might be onto something. He was a painter hired by Alfred during the refurbishing of the Wayne Manor, he suffers a terrible painting accident and vows to take revenge on Bruce and the Bat:woot: .

Nolan has stated this Joker is 'absolute' throughout the movie, so I doubt the acid bath would happen at the end...

Jes and Jes. The rotting paint idea makes some people afraid because they're thinking by the time it rots off, his face will be flesh colored. But, as anybody who's worn war paint and i'm pretty sure they'll say if you leave it on, it'll dramatically mess up your face(not to mention how bad it would burn after a week or two). To me, Joker 'dehumanizing' himself rather than letting an accident do it makes him an even better, more psychotic man who turned himself into a monster. Much like Batman turning himself into Batman, and Scarecrow turning himself into Scarecrow by the end of BB.

yea i agree....i mean hes a psychopath....hes obv not all there in the head so he just paints his face to give himself a more effective look

Well what if we never see what happened to him? What if, at some point in the movie, it's revealed that the Joker's skin is just white and Batman and Gordon don't know why? (Maybe they could even toss out theories before they ultimately decide that it doesn't matter because whoever the Joker was before he became the Joker doesn't exist anymore).

I think it could work well because it would shake Batman's grasp of his world. There would be a mystery he can't solve and an enemy he'll never fully understand (escalation). It would be a disruption to the Gotham Nolan created in 'Begins', but it would also be consistent with the character.

Very good point. I agree because it makes the Joker the flip side of Batman even more:up: .

Is war paint a brand or something ? I thought it was just a reference to indians going on the war path.
