I get what you're saying. I can't wait to see the kind of energy Heath Ledger brings to the role of The Joker. I would be interested to see him have a Frank Booth/Don Logan kinda vibe about him, where you're always uneasy whenever he's on screen, thinking he could do anything...
Totally, kind of like Alex in a clockwork orange too.

Like whitey in Me, myself and irene? But after he gets the gun he clearly would have to shoot the storeowner.

Of course the clerk hands Joker a gun then goes

You wouldnt happen to be that Joker I saw on that there television

(joker in mocking southern accent) course not then shoots the clerk

I would be happy in pants if that happened.:ninja:

I like the idea of the Joker beating the homeless guy from BB, but before he walks away he says to him, "Nice coat"

That would be such a joker-ish inside joke for avid BB fans.

My personal two cents.

I feel that the Joker wearing make-up is going to be a very important part of the character. Let's assume for a moment the joker begins as normal (if slightly unhinged). He starts to get crazier, and gains (through whatever means) the Cheshire Grin. Now, we can reasonably safely assume that he gains the Grin through someone else's actions, starting his downward spiral into psycho-hood. Now, by putting on the make-up, he acknoledges and accepts (hell, he even praises) his own insanity. In the clasic origin, where he falls into a vat of chemicals, there is one thing missing - choice. With the make-u, he becomes an avatar of chaos and insanity, a symbol, in the same way that Batman chooses to become a symbol of law and order by donning the Bat suit (I feel that there's going to be a very storng theme of law and order in this movie - even his costume resembles actual knightly armour now,r ather than being 'scary'; not that it isn't intimidating).

Of course, this is just my thought, and your miles may vary, but that's what I do in Nolan's shoes
But that's the thing. Batman choses to be Batman, the Joker doesn't chose to be Joker. That's always been a part of their dynamic as hero and villain. The Joker doesn't understand why he lives life as Batman, when he doesn't have to.

Batman, while he doesn't want to, choses to be Batman. The Joker does not chose to be Joker, but he accepts it, and embraces it. That's part of the "polar opposite" thing.

One of the animators I saw in a clip explained Joker like that. He is the opposite of Batman

Joker is Batman's opposite...think about it.
Batman is someone trying to bring about order from chaos.
Joker is all about random crime
Batman is a force of good dressed as a thing of evil
Joker is a force of evil dressed as the most innocent thing(a clown)

Are you explaining that to me? or just continuing that thought?

batman chooses to wear a mask, but joker doesn't...

joker can't take his mask off, which is why it is needed that his skin be bleached! :D

Exactly. That's basically the main argument, and most relavent, of the "Must be bleached" side.
