awesome.

i mean seriously- look at the WRINKLES that extend to his eye. his face is a mess- it looks about 100 years old! something's got to his face before the makeup.

yeah and that something is batman.:whatever:

why are we squinting to find something that isnt there when we have seen what he face looks like???

i have all the leaked pictures saved on my computer. you remember the ones with joker getting stomped in the interrogation room, kicking batman at the party etc...? if you havent seen them im sorry but you are on here often enough that you probably know what im talking about.

well his makeup is exactly the same but in full lighting. it seems that since these pics were not meant to be seen just yet they are very clean and bright. there is a closeup of his face with heath giving this innocent little smirk and there is no makeup left in the creases of his face. the creases are flesh colored. you can see under his thinning hair brown roots and that his scalp is clearly not white. his right eye is all smeared upwards like in the empire shot and some of the black has run down his cheeks and some looks to have settled in the creases of his face. this is why he looks so wrinkled and old. add to that the harsh lighting of the empire pic and that is why he looks so gross. caine flat out said he looks like a leper so why is everyone acting so suprised it looks like he has a skin desease?

i mean he looks like he got his ass kicked a bit but there is no extreme irritation or swelling and no blood. you can clearly see the scar on his left side (the one that looks accidental and sloppy) has healed a bit and around it there is some red lipstick smeared and flesh tone around that. his makeup looks exactly how it has been described: like he has worn it for so long it looks dirty and uneven, like a leper. there is no makeup in the creases of his face because the movement of his skin (and possible rain/capture/beat down) has left white only on the skin between the wrinkles. add some running balck makeup and bam! old, wrinkly, sickly looking skin.

i dont know where you can still find the pics but im not getting banned just to show you there is nothing else going on with his skin.

edit: the "banned" pics are all over the hype i guess.

that is just sad...sorry but it's not floating my boat

I would hardly call it daring. In fact, for Nolan, it was a bit...obvious. If you think about it, the makeup, the cut smile, the dirty mess. It was all rather predictable.

I'd tend to agree. This isn't that brilliant a concept. It's one of many that has existed for The Joker over the years. Fans have argued for/against the "cut smile" and makeup/non makeup ideas for years now. Nolan just picked a look and went with it. He's still got the basics of The Joker.

Even if he does look like crap.

The look of the Joker doesnt appear to be as mimimal to us as some would like us to believe

almost every page has a post about "why are we still discussing this?"
I was stating that it is obvious this isnt a small detail to us

If only we had a way to quickly, efficiently determine whether people like The Joker's new look or not, and quantify it somehow...

Perhaps a poll that wasn't closed...rather than a poll about whether or not people care that The Joker is wearing makeup.

Alas.

that sounds like a great idea! someone should make one. i think i will.

we'll see when the movie comes out

perhaps we should have a poll to see if we should allow a definitive poll about the joker to remain open?:ninja:

"fools. beaurecratric fools."

Anyone think Joker's latest quote "never take anything at face value" have any significance?

I simply believe the change to making Joker apply makeup was done for more than just "realism." Maybe it's to add upon his characterization, but I'm sure it was done for other reasons than to keep everything in a realistic manner.

i really believe it wasn't done out of realism

as joker said

"don't take anything as face value"

Ooooh, where did he say that? That could very well have a significance to the movie.

Someone posted that when the safe was opened, the Joker had that message along with breaking more rules and some other directions. I can't remember though exactly what came after, "never take anything at face value", something along the lines of "unless you are breaking rules" or something.

does anybody know what happened to my thread about the discussion on weather heath has been a ffected by this movie or not? i cant find it anymore..

Really, I can't see any reason for the change.

Realism is a moot point, since permawhite could easily fit into the world of BB. And as for the different from Jack-Joker/originality/artistic decision, I just can't see that either. I mean, he changes one thing about the Joker (permawhite, of all things!) , and somehow it's all-of-the-sudden new and fresh and original?

I just think if Nolan really wanted to do something different and original, he would have changed the Joker in a much more drastic way.

Based off the new picture, it definitely looks like something has happened to his skin (most obviously on his right hand). But I've said it before and I'll say it again: if they do go with some variation of "permawhite", don't expect it to be chalk white like the comics. Expect him to just be very very pale, maybe with an uneven tone. The set pictures of Ledger from the bank filming seem to back this up.

Then, as often speculated, he puts on the makeup to accentuate the look and embrace what he believes he already resembles (that being a clown, of course). So it's more of a psychological thing on his part, yet when the makeup comes off, he'll still look just as ghoulish and will still be recognizable as the Joker.

i think we can all agree that nolan doesnt have a problem how joker ''looks''. if he would have a problem with that then joker wouldnt have purple, green and orange clothes.
can we agree with that? those colors dont fit in nolans gotham and in nolans color pallete.

so if it is paint then it has to do womthing with the story and the character. and it looks like hte joekr will act 100% like hte joker. but maybe the reasons why it all starts will be different

I think the reason for this narrative decision might, perversely, be that Nolan is being more faithful to the comics than we give him credit for- in the sense that he is basing The Joker's look and character squarley on his first appearance in the comics. In that story, there is no suggestion of an acid bath or anything (if I recall correctly), so Nolan might have felt that it was better not to work that element into the fabric of the story.
