The Dark Knight I guess joker just applies make-up after all

What do you think of the latest pic of heath ledger as mista J?

  • Yes its fine that he's a regualr guy that applies white make-up

  • No because his skin should be bleached like its always been

Ya know, I highly doubt, that during the last action scene between the joker and batman, ANYONE is going to lean over to their friend, and say, "This movie is ruined, all because the decided to go with a "make-up applying" joker! See that little amount of flesh on his neck, well it shouldn't be there, cause the joker is SUPPOSED to be full on white skined, NOT make-up covered. I can't even enjoy it, I mean, c'mon, a FLESH COLORED NECK SHOWING JOKER, it just destroys everything this movie could have been." At which point, if ur friend next to you, were a true friend, he would punch you in the face and shout, "****, ITS JUST A NECK, NOW SIT DOWN, LOVE THIS MASTERPIECE OF MOVIE MAKING, AND STARE IN AWE OF THE JOKER THAT IS BEFORE YOU!."

At this point, I don't think a single person is concerned with Joker's skin color, or at least should not be.
Eh, I still have friends who are really into comics who are a bit bugged by it. It won't ruin the movie for them, but they like things looking just so. I just shrug it off - it's their perogative. :oldrazz:

In the recent article, Nolan said he was fretting over what Batman fans would think if they saw footage of Heath riding around on a skateboard as the Joker. If he worried about things as trivial as that, then you can bet that he would've thought long and hard over something much more important like the Joker being permawhite.
Absolutely. I've always thought that way from the start. Nolan doesn't make decisions lightly.

677 pages on whether joker is permawhite or not. God damn it you geeks! Yeesh!
He isnt permawhite. In the prologue the goons say that he wears makeup to scare people like a war paint.
Is that really that important though? Ledger-Joker is awesome! So what if he isnt permawhite? Besides, is it really Nolan-realistic to fall into chemicals and get white skin, green hair and red lips? Gimme a break.

He is a whole new joker. He isnt Jack Nicholson, he isnt Mark Hamil, he is a new, dirty, gritty, smelly, greasy joker.

as time goes on i like the makeup idea more and more. it was upsetting at first, but now it really seems to fit .

As much as I dislike you as a poster, your statement makes sense.

Plus we are already getting two face in this film as well -- wouldn't it be a little strange to have two people disfigured in different events - in the same film. A little bit of overkill really.

As much i love you as a poster, i really wouldnt mind if you dated other people!

To continue the discussion, i liked how Nolan described him as a force of nature tearing through. It makes him sound like a maelstrom of destruction, which he should be, and not a laughing clown. My god, this joker must sweep gotham, tear down to pieces!

still upsetting to me
i really can't decide if i like it or not
but fro me joker was always the chemically mutilated freak
but now its freak who puts on makeup
bleh
skin bleaching is real
people do get skin bleached white
i didn't have to happen like he fell into a vat of chemicals
but something dark and creepy
like
the mobs body drop off spot
full of chemicals to destroy evidence of the murder
but then the joker didn't die
but had to play dead for a few hours
in the burning horrible skin rotting chemicals
until the mobsters left
maybe part of the movie could have been his revenge or something
i don know
just an idea

it's a idea that's been kicking around for a while. it's a good one :cwink:. there's a hint to it the casting sides, but whether that's misdirection or not who knows....

In light of recent events, its funny how utterly insignificant this argument now feels...

I never cared before and I still don't care now and never will!

That's how it is with most longstanding arguments. It just usually takes posters far longer to realize it than in this case.

If it was perma white we wouldnt get the melted look. Jack Ns joker looked very clean. Heaths looks sweaty and hot. He looks like he has a skin disease.
I love it

i like how this thread goes on huge tangents, but every so often some poster comes in talking about how we are lame for talking about it for 677 pages, though they fail to realize about 40 percent of those pages don't talk about it at all

The knives thing bothers me more than the face paint does. Since when did Joker ever have knives? He was always about the pistols and gas and bombs (and the occasional crowbar, heh). Mostly exploding things.

Though seeing as this thread is 678 pages long, I'm sure someone's already said that...

Not necessarily. The melted look comes largely from the black eye-makeup and red lipstick.

I think it actually would have been really cool if he had been permawhite with the Chealsea Grin, then added the eye makeup and red lipstick, which would gradually melt. Because, then, you get the grungier new melted look with the cut smile, but maintain a classic, iconic character trait.

Also, it works for the plot: even if you wash off the makeup, he's still 100% Joker, inside and out.

If I remember correctly, he had a thing for knives in his first couple of appearances. It's what he "killed" himself with, and I believe he was about to kill Robin with one.

I kind of like the knives. They're quite classicaly theatrical.

Nicky!! Been a while since I've seen ya. Hope all is well.

But yea it would of been cool that way but I guess I don't mind either way. I think Heath's Joker will be amazing in the context of Nolan's story.

Hope we get a Superbowl Spot if not we know we get a new trailer on March 9th.

Hey, Solidus!

The reason I've been gone a few days is because of a 33% average in Social Studies (I'm not dumb, just lazy). I'm technically not even supposed to be on the computer right now. *Sigh*. 'Tis the curse of being a teenager, I'm afraid.

I hope we get a Superbowl spot, too, but I'll be in Rome at that time (family vaction for Mardi Gras). I'll have to see it on YouTube when I get back.

actually there was a whole other thread dedicated to that.

Knives are kind of overdone to me. But being a Jhonen Vasquez fan, I guess I'm biased. I'm supposing something other than Joker gas would be necessary though since gas was Scarecrow's thing in the first movie.

I'm beginning to realize more and more that this will be a completely different Joker than we've seen before.

Also, I don't quite agree with your signature, but it breaks up comments beautifully.

The thing that bothers me about the new Joker is the lint in his pockets, I mean wha'z up wit tha?

I don't remember the Joker having lint in the comics. :woot:

Ah, sometimes I get the curse of being 24 and in college lol. My minor is in ancient history and I have done lots of research on Rome, I'm so jealous that you get to see it. Have a blast, take some awesome pictures you'll have fun.
