:whatever:

You aint going to see that in the movie. I will bet that.
I hope so. I've accepted the makeup (I don't like it, and I'll still argue to the death about it), but I don't mind nearly as much any more.

But I do NOT want to see the Joker without that makeup. It'd be like all the criminals in Gotham seeing Batman unmasked. The effect is ruined.

You won't, he seems to still even have some of his make up on when he dresses up like the cop from Batman #1 which is really cool. I can't wait to see that and the pink nurse dress.

I'd say it's worse because the Joker is only suppose to be The Joker. Batman is also Bruce Wayne, he has a known alter ego. The Joker on the other hand is only suppose to have one identity, and in TDK, it is with that makeup on.

So yes, Joker must keep his makeup on, or he basically is then given two identities. One with makeup, and one without it. It's the one thing I really disliked about Joker in Batman'89, he had two identities. One as Jack Napier, and then the Joker. And even though Napier shapes into The Joker, I hated that he is still referred to as "Jack" by several people in the movie even after becoming the Joker. It reverts back to him having another identity other than the white face clown.

You guys are hilarious. We have no proof one way or the other that the joker is permawhite vs. makeuped. i love the thread and the speculation, but the certainty is a little creepy. in that cop pic- his face does NOT look normal! It's pasty-foundation color, like he's put it ON TOP of something. his hair is GREEN. i am willing to bet he is blotchy permawhite or permawhite under it all, and that we learn this at the end of the movie. before then, the movie implies it's just makeup.

Doesn't change the fact that's how he actually looks. :o

With out make up....uhhh yea thats how he looks. He looks like that with out make up. And guess what?

*Gasp!!!* Thats how Joker looks with out makeup in B89. :o:o:o Those three red faces are for you Crook, since its the only language you seem to speak.

that made zero sense

I'm talking about the picture some one minaped where the Heath Joker has no makeup on just his scars. And Crook said he looks bad with out make up, or I assume that is what he meant. And just was being sarcastic.

Cuz me and Crook love to sarcasm each other to death ;)

All in good fun though.

I hope I am not triple posting but this made me LOL

Truth be told, in 15-20 years when some one else does a Batman movie and the Joker is in it, you can bet there will be some complaint/discussion, saying how they've ruined the character. Sometimes I hate my own kind...internet fan boys. lol.

Excellent point. It's what I've been saying all along.

As I said, I don't mind the makeup. But the Joker is supposed to have a single identity: the Joker. The clown. This can be accomplished with makeup, but that means it's got to stay on all the time. Which is kind of unfeasable.

Which is why, in my mind, permawhite is a much more effective way of making it clear that the Joker is the Joker, all the time, 24/7.

I see what you mean, and I will bet it does not come off him. To me its not unfeasible at all. To me I think some really don't give enough credit to some one like Nolan. They just undermine him and believe he is out to ruin new interpretations on characters. I'm pretty sure the guy knows what he is doing. Besides the Cop Scene, I will bet you your wallet I stole in Italy Nicky :oldrazz: that he will always be clown looking.

happy to jump in :)

This is bad news: costume designer linda hemming says of the joker:

"He’s already scarred in the film, so the makeup comes from what he does to enhance that rather than to look like a clown.”

****ing ****. so the joker is a guy who only wants to "enhance his scarring"- and is not a clown looking freak? Great- Nolan and Co. just made him a flamboyant darkman.
:csad:

It is what I meant. Flesh-toned in the context of the story and character. It looks horrible.

Unless you expect me to believe that the actor cast for Joker is expected to be permawhite.

It is a twist on the old interpretation. The smile put on his face kinda gives him a freak look. And in some way he always looks like he is smiling in a very twisted and gross way. So to some point a persona of a clown, always smiling even if they are not. It is a small alteration just a different "something" that made his mind snap of being a freak.

Maybe in 20 years for the next one all the fans mad with the Permawhite thing can grab some actor and throw him into a vat of chemicals. Show him how to be the Joker ;) :oldrazz:

That would be quite a headline in the news. "A small group of Fan boys throw famous actor into vat of chemicals"

I get it. I just think it sucks. It instantly makes me think Nolan is being arrogant and pushing drastic changes on these characters. There is NOTHING this permawhite joker couldn't do that a makeuped joker could. Ugh it sickens me.

Or you could just....use make-up.

I don't mean on film, because, like you said, I trust Nolan enough not to show is that on film (though those set pics do make me worry a bit...). I'm really more speaking in hypotheticals. During the movie, I'm sure we won't be seeing his real face, but, in the universe he has created, you just think, it's got to come off sometime. Whether we see on film it or not, I just don't like the idea that that could happen. Know what I mean?
