I See Fat People ... They Make Me Cry Inside.

I could honestly say that if I weren't blessed with a decent metabolism, that I would be amongst the obese in society today.
I have the worst metobolism. no matter how much i diet , I stay Fat.

diet? a diet is not something you do every once in awhile... a diet is what you eat...

if you have a healthy diet.. and exercise... you will be healthy... that's all that matters....

i'm not ripping on people who are bigger... i'm just saying, no one is forcing you to eat three frozen pizzas for dinner

easter this year, my uncles (who is huge) was complaining about finding a new doctor, saying that the doctor doesn't want to treat him anymore because his obesity is getting worse, and he's not following anything the doctor said..

of course, he was telling us this, when he was eating his fifth omlet on easter brunch...

that's the mentality of the US obese community.... it's not their fault, it's everyone else, now pass them a donut

I seriously have no problem with people being fat, aside from health concerns, but I'm so sick of my friend complaining to me about being fat while stuffing oreos in her mouth. If you hate it so much, put down the fork. :cmad:

I can sympathise with that. It was a constant struggled for me losing weight. I could work my ass off for an entire week, lose a few pounds, but if I took the foot off the gas for even two days (I'd be negligent, but not gorging) all the hard work over the past week would be undone. Weekends are the bane of those who want to lose weight.

i used to know this fat girl... who we called zitty tittys....

It's actually been shown medically that, like drug addicts, the obese have physiological problems with the pleasure centers of their brains so they have to eat more to get that full feeling of reward from food. Granted, some of us take it to extremes (like the time I ate that baby) but it's not just a matter of simplicity.

no, they have a impulse problem..

like when some drinks to much,.... they claim it's a sickness....

no, you just need to drink less

And if a smoker can quit smoking and an alcoholic can quit drinking, someone with weight problems can learn moderation. Or at the very least, exercise.

but it's a sickness.... see, when they were in Milwaukee, they caught the fat bug... now, they can't control there arms and mouth.. they don't want to eat, but there hand keeps grabbing food and forcing into their mouth..

not their fault

I'm not saying it can't be controlled - I'm saying there's more to it than an deep seeded desire to smother ring dings in sawmill gravy.

Right, I know that much. Granted, my only complaint was people (one in particular) who cry about being fat and never do anything about it. That particular person, she's never even attempted to diet, never joined a gym, etc. And I'm sure she's not the only one out there.

Study: Obese People Have 'Severe Brain Degeneration'
Tuesday, August 25, 2009

A new study finds obese people have 8 percent less brain tissue than normal-weight individuals. Their brains look 16 years older than the brains of lean individuals, researchers said today.

Those classified as overweight have 4 percent less brain tissue and their brains appear to have aged prematurely by 8 years.

The results, based on brain scans of 94 people in their 70s, represent "severe brain degeneration," said Paul Thompson, senior author of the study and a UCLA professor of neurology.

"That's a big loss of tissue and it depletes your cognitive reserves, putting you at much greater risk of Alzheimer's and other diseases that attack the brain," said Thompson. "But you can greatly reduce your risk for Alzheimer's, if you can eat healthily and keep your weight under control."

The findings are detailed in the online edition of the journal Human Brain Mapping.

Obesity packs many negative health effects, including increased risk of heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, hypertension and some cancers. It's also been shown to reduce sexual activity.

More than 300 million worldwide are now classified as obese, according to the World Health Organization. Another billion are overweight. The main cause, experts say: bad diet, including an increased reliance on highly processed foods.

Obese people had lost brain tissue in the frontal and temporal lobes, areas of the brain critical for planning and memory, and in the anterior cingulate gyrus (attention and executive functions), hippocampus (long-term memory) and basal ganglia (movement), the researchers said in a statement today. Overweight people showed brain loss in the basal ganglia, the corona radiata, white matter comprised of axons, and the parietal lobe (sensory lobe).

"The brains of obese people looked 16 years older than the brains of those who were lean, and in overweight people looked 8 years older," Thompson said.

Obesity is measured by body mass index (BMI), defined as the weight in kilograms divided by the square of the height in meters. A BMI over 25 is defined as overweight, and a BMI of over 30 as obese.

The research was funded by the National Institute on Aging, National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering, National Center for Research Resources, and the American Heart Association

a deep seeded desire to develop bigger boobs?
or perhaps to lose their mobility. I quit eating at Cracker Barrel a while ago because I saw too many morbidly obese people on scooters. It's frightful looking into one's future like that.

When I worked at Wal-Mart during college I would see these same people. These are the people that will actually yell at cart-pusher to bring them an electric cart from inside the building out to their car parked in the handicap parking spot.

Then I have to tell some 80 year-old woman with a cane, "I'm sorry, but we're out of electric carts atm."

I can sympathize greatly with obese people who have no control (medication like steroids causing weight gain) or because of a disability/surgery can no longer exercise. I have no sympathy for people that don't try however. There are options, and programs that can work for anyone. It just takes wanting to, and some self-discipline, which many lack.
