I think I hate my Generation

Here is the problem. Somewhere allong the line my generation thought by listening to sensitive stuff and not rocking out they'd attract more women because they figured they must hate all this alpha male stuff. So they start listening to Verticle Horizon, The Postal Service and techno intrumental to show they are in touch with their feeling and don't like abrasive rebelous music.
I will get no man if all guys in your generation think that. :(

Manowar- Music for Alpha-Males...

Even if they do look gay

OMG!! Those girls totally rock! I get so darn high listening to their melodious music. It makes me wanna fly like an angel.

Hey, SB... are you like... totaly serious with your first post on this thread? I can understand how unbearable it must be for you to have to listen to something you don't enjoy for over an hour but to hate a whole generation just because you and your pals don't share the same interest in music, that's just... like what sinewave said... jockish meat-head-y.

Oh, and saying that you have good taste in music is good and theirs isn't... is just arrogant. That said... Long Live Rock 'n Roll!

So, I've been to a couple different Lilith Fair events and, indeed, there were some artists there who truly did rock. I had the pleasure of seeing Patty Griffin when she really ditched the acoustic stuff for the first time and went electric in support of her "Flaming Red" album (still one of my favorite albums, actually) and she tore the stage UP with her set. I was even surprised by Paula Cole who has ten times the voice live that she lets on in her recordings (which I really am not all that fond of). So, I was being a bit facetious in my Lilith Fair comment to ShadowBoxing, because there is a lot of great music out there if you're willing to look for it, and if you're looking for a bonding experience with your friends over music then you need to be wiling to open your perspectives up a little bit and be open to some new sounds.

LOL! :D Those guys always crack me up.

So, I'm willing to bet some of you are hung up on the term Alpha-Male and some of the negative connotations that term tends to carry. To me, it just means someone who's not afraid of taking a leadership position, getting things done when they need to, takes care of himself and his family, and doesn't let life run over the top of him. It doesn't mean being an a-hole or provide an excuse for rude or obnoxious behavior.

Your facetiousness was obvious, jag. ;)

And I totally agree with what you said. We need to be more open-minded and, like you said, be willling to look for great music regardless the genre.

PS. Alpha males does not = metalheads or those who listen to hard rock. It take a lot more than listening to that genre of music to be an alpha male.

I got a friend who's never heard of Onyx.

I dislike a lot of out generation(Shadowboxing and I) cuz of their taste in music as well.

Since I've moved out of my parents' house long ago, I don't bother with them.

The only thing I can control is myself. I don't bother with others.

I'm content with what I have and where I'm at. I see no reason to make a family of my own.

If that doesn't fall under the definition of "alpha-male", oh well.

You sound like a recluse actually so you can't be the "alpha male" of anything. :p

Alpha-Hermits don't use the Internets

That's because they're too busy composing their manifesto's in long-hand.

I got a C in Creative Writing.

I lack an interest in politics, and I have no desire to change anything in the world

Trying to grade creative writing is like trying to grade abstract art :down

I keep thinking i'd rather we were all gods and goddesses than humans. Life would maybe seem to have more of a point for us as opposed to the rest of the animal kingdom, or maybe not (see Greek gods.)

I put forth the least effort and earned a C. I needed an easy class in college

I don't know what the disconnect is from me and my peers at college is exactly, I mean assume we all had comprable upbringings and surroundings. But this was a few weeks ago. Me and 13 friends celebrated beach weekend by renting a beach house. Me and 4 other guys (all of them I am pretty tight with...or so I thought) rode down together. When they first hopped in the car I had a CD playing, the most masculine music I thought I had to play, House of Pain (famous for "Jump Around" "Put on your sh** kickers" and "Top of the Morning to Ya"..)...Ya know music that makes you wanna kick a$$ and take names. Not only had they never heard them before at all, they did not like it (c'mon I remember growing up on that stuff)

Next from my selection of music I suggest Rage Against the Machine, which they counter is terrible music:eek: ...that was my reaction too.

Next we put in the far less abrasive Hobbastank, which I admit is far to tame...they get board with it fairly quickly.

I suggest Snoop Dogg: NO, Run DMC: NO, No rap, No Korn, No Hard Rock, No mild Rock (apparently they have a problem with Rock)....No to Rolling Stones, No to my Seether CD, No to Kanye West, No to Tupac, No to Bob Dylan...

I think we end up listening to John Mayer and Gavin DeGraw for a while...both CDs I burned for girlfriends to listen to while I drove places.

Finally I get them to agree to Red Hot Chilli Peppers, a crowd pleaser you'd think. We listen for a while, but they get tired of it and suggest that we plug in their IPOD.

What is on their IPOD you ask. Oh its bands like Postal Service, Some techno-emo BS, this techno instrumental music that sounds like its from romantic comedies, singer songwriters like Wheat and stuff like Verticle Horizon.

The next day we get in a friend's car (who had met us down there) and he is listening to (get this) Jimmy Buffet and Music Man (yes the showtunes). What happened to my Generation...they even scoffed at me when I pointed out "Music is about rebellion"

God help us all if this is our future.
Your generation (i.e. my generation) doesnt suck. It's your friends that do. I can understand why they'd say no to some of those things, but had a list that pretty much encompasses most tastes in music. And Gavin DeGraw is what they wanted to listen to. :down

I am one of the few people in my generation who has any conception of good taste. All the other kids in my school can listen to Hoobastank and Nelly while I rock out to Led Zeppelin and The Who. Real music.

On June 23rd, while everyone else is lining up to see Adam Sandler's new move Click, I'll be at Jones Beach rocking out to the Allman Brothers.

You guys really need to quit being SOOOOoo judgmental and critical of people because of their taste in entertainment that are contrary to yours. The reason why our generation is becoming so ignorant over mainstream and classic artist is because of the internet, internet radio, mp3 players, and file sharing which allow for much broader of experimentation of music than ever before.

That's like, the most close minded view of what quality music is, ever.

I'm just saying, don't act like yer taste in music is all superior because it's classic rock, when there's tons of great artists out there who don't have to use pentatonic scales, one guitair hero, and a career between the years of 1965 and 1990 and are great musicians.

So, unless you expand your horizons, trying to pass off your musical taste as "superior" as anyone else's is just silly.
