YEAH! Not to mention ripping off that Crow thing! :whatever: That didn't work at all! :o

Darn wrestling ripping off movies. Thats never been done before!

Some cases it works, some it doesn't. This Joker gimmick is not working for Sting. He comes off an idiot, espcailly due to the commercial success of Nolan's Joker. The Joker is too popular now and it feels like Sting is trying too hard.

Sometimes it amuses me and sometimes it seems really stupid. Then again look at who's booking at TNA. I agree with you I think TNA is pushing it too hard at times instead of naturally working it into Stings character.

Its not so much the popularity of Ledgers Joker just that it hasn't been organically worked into Stings old character. it just felt tacked on.

Doink was a far more clever inspiration from the Joker than Stings Joker. I mean the Matt Borne Doink not the lamea** versions that followed him

Could be worse: Sting could be wearing all purple

Wrestling has a habit of taking ideas from popular movies of the day. Lord Humongous was a straight up knockoff. A lot of the southern territories were just blatant with it in the 80's. Magnum TA being one...but that was pretty good.

Razor Ramon was a good one. Razor worked because Scott Hall was so good at it though. Anyone else with that gimmick could have been horrible.

It's a f'n joke:dry:

He could of went for a crazy clown gimmick without ripping TDK Joker off.

yeah but sadly he didn't, its just coming across as a bad ledger impression

ripping off movies is nothing new, like you posted but at least with LOD and crow sting they added there own spin and took the gimmick forward, joker skin is just getting worse every week.

maybe i'm in the minority but i really do not see the appeal of joker sting

To be fair, Hawk and Animal were doing this long before Thelma and Louise came out.

:hehe: Nice

The idea of young Geena Davis in leather and spikes though...that is something. She's a six footer y'know... Damn you now you've made me lose my train of thought. :cmad:

Ms Tessmacher was a pretty entertaining (hot) character ripped off from a superhero movie. Of course Stacy Keibler did the same basic act as Ms Hancock.

yeah but sadly he didn't, its just coming across as a bad ledger impression

Its all about execution. TNA's execution on Joker Sting has been pretty weak. It kind of came out of nowhere. Why would he go zany crazy? While WCW's execution on Crow Sting was brilliant and it made sense given the fact that Sting had been "wronged."

I DID laugh when Joker Sting was in Immortals office with them while they had a meeting and he had that big red zoot suit on. Although that kind of reminded me of the Mask too

How did Sting add his own "Thing" to the crow gimmick? Other than the baseball Bat it was straight rip off, it just happened to fit perfectly with what was going on in WCW at the time.

I actually got to play WWE '12 at an Xbox press event yesterday. I have to say, I was really impressed.

I felt like I had the hang of the basic controls in only one match--something I couldn't say for the last Smackdown vs. Raw game I played. The game feels like a mix of the SvR controls and the oldschool, N64-era controls. You tap A to grapple up, then hit a direction on the right stick to perform a move.

I played as CM Punk and put down the THQ guy I was playing (though I figure he may have been going easy on me, haha).

Reverals are easier (one button to reverse either grapples or strikes) and there's a comfortable number of context-sensitive prompts to keep you informed as to what your options are.

I also have to point out that the new pinning mechanic is cool--rather than mashing buttons aimlessly when pinned, pinning works like active-reloading in Gears of War. You press the button while in the blue zone to kick out--and the blue zone gets smaller and smaller depending on how good a beating you've taken.

The animations are a lot smoother and more natural, and the matches play a lot faster with less time spent on the mat. All things considered, if I can sit down and have a fun match with a wrestling game I've never played before, I think they've got something good on their hands. The learning curve is much easier.

Think further back. Mel Gibson's Road Warrior to give you an idea of where and when to look.

Memphis Wrestling took Lord Humongous lock stock and barrel from The Road Warrior and didn't even try to hide it. Lawler really had no shame. :funny:

I think you have a point. It wasn't really THAT different. The biggest change was Sting just talked a hell of a lot less than the Crow did. I think what really made it work was the execution and Stings performance. Really great body language. He didn't do much but what he did do he did well.

Like you said the gimmick really fit the situation of a man who was wronged and sought vengeance. Plus wrestling has been sort of "comic booky" for a long time in a sense.

Strangely enough Sting made that switch the year the second Crow movie came out and his look reminded me more of the Crow from City of Angels. Hair was shorter, the clothes. Or maybe it was a blend of the two Crow looks.

exactly now i have not seen how joker sting came to be but it should of been something tramutic that sent him over the edge type of scenario

I still haven't watched any of this Sting Joker stuff, ever since TNA released those "crazy" promo pics of him, I vowed never to watch it. Not because of any fanboyism, but because of the sheer level of cringe that I feel whenever I think about it.

agreed it was so random, you bring up a good point about the mask though, if they went the big head comic route rather than jim carrey.

the mask in the comics was a homicidal maniac, but still teased the comedic loon, sting could have work well with this.

ehh Joker Sting is the only reason ive started watching TNA again...at least its something other than the same crap they spew out every week

I think that's the main problem. It came out of nowhere, and of course TNA booking is not helping at all.

I wonder if he will turn heel so that TNA can bring in a masked wrestler with a bat gimmick to stop him.

BatOrton and SuperCena are busy in WWE. With enough prep time theres not a bag Orton can't crap in.

Oh god... please keep that idea to yourself before they hear you.

to respond to what Metallo said about the WWE revisionist history.....yea...the WWE can make their own version of things and there really isn't anyone else who can claim otherwise or cares enough to or has a big enough voice where folks will listen

Randy Orton - "I sure as Hell am no Christian."
Well, that answers a question no one asked lol

Cody just used "lesser sons of a greater sire" in a WWE promo.

He just gained 1,000,000 points in my book.
