hey, so i did a dumbass thing, and let a friend use my ID to get into a bar (hes 28 but recently had his wallet stolen). Anywho.. its worked fine in the past, but he met an ass of a bouncer, and the guy took my ID from him, and kept it, and called the cops.

Anywho... now im without an ID, other then an old expired Ohio ID. My bday is weds and i was wondering if I could use that to get into bars? Cuz if not, my bday is pretty much ruined.

Your mate is 28 and still needs ID to get into bars? What kind of Country do you live in! never realised you still had to show ID at that age!

You could always try

Your friend is an idiot. Also, I'm a little jealous. Your friend probably ages like a vampire. I'm only 24, and nobody cards me anymore. Or the bars I go to just don't care.

I think your expired ID should be fine. I think most bouncers tend to only look at the birthdate and watermarks.

yeah he looks like he could be 20-24 so he still gets carded... I still get carded depending on where im at (ill be 23 on weds) like if im entering a bar with a bouncer, they typically ID everyone, and scan it through this little machine that reads your age.. (i hope my Ohio ID works for that, i doubt it will cuz theres a hole punched right in the middle of the bar strip (since i have a cali ID now).

he's calling the bar he went to up 2morrow, and if they still have it there really should be no reason why i couldn't get it back. I just probably have to drive up to santa barbera with him.

If not, i have to wait a week to get a new ID and just pray they let me in with my old one :(

Worst case scenario, you're delaying your birthday party until you get a new shiny ID.

If you look like you may not be 18, you gotta prove it.

Also, many bars take id down so if there are troublemakers they can be quickly dealt with by the police.

Thanks to troublemakers, bars are often now taking ID to run it through identification systems to weed out the bad ones.

easier said then done... its hard enough getting my friends together, let alone trying to do it twice... lol :csad:

id be like whatever, if it werent for the fact i was really wanting to have an amazing b-day this year, for once.. my last few in LA have sucked ass

You have to wait week for a new license? What kind of DMVs are there in Cali?

Governmment sponsored ones.

He should be able to get a temp right away, it's just that the temp probably may not have his picture on it or anything.

I'm sorry, but I think that title should go to the thread maker. I don't care how much I love my friend, I'd NEVER ever lend anyone my ID. If he wants to go to the bar to drink or do whatever, he can wait til he gets a new one. It's not like he's going to die if he doesn't get to go to the bar.

hey i admit it was a dumb ass decision, but it's worked before, its not like he's a black haired asian midget and looks nothing like me. And i was just being nice.

Just because it's worked before, doesn't mean it's going to work all the time. You were indeed being nice but sometimes you gotta put yourself first, especially since that wasn't a life or death situation and that your friend wasn't in dire need of your help. You were a good friend but he wasn't responsible with the faith you had put in him. Sorry if my post sounded harsh.

he may not be responsible for the ID being taken away from him, but he's responsible for not having his crap together in the first place, and responsible for not calling the bar the very next day (this happened saturday, he could have called during the day today) to try to see what he could do to get the card back

Congrats, you might earn a nice fine from the police in CA for your birthday. "Lending" someone an ID card to gain access to a drinking establishment is a misdemeanor offense regardless of the individuals age...the severity goes up if the person using the ID is underage.

So instead of your friend using a borrowed ID card he'd have been using a stolen one. That is sure to make things better :whatever:

If anything, just say you were the one who went to the bar. I doubt the bouncer will remember your friend's face. And if you are over 21, there's nothing bad that can happen to you.

thats what i was planning on doing

and if i were to lie, i'd say something like, my roomate took my ID thinking it'd be ok to use since his was stolen (truth) and i'd just say he took it without asking, and i heard he went here saturday night.

i figure if they saw i drove all the way up from LA to SB to get it, and as long as they didnt see my roomate, it'd be fine, if anything id prob just get a "well be more careful next time" and "tell your roomate he can't do that" I wouldnt say i let him use it.. and if police got involved and asked if i'd press charges, id just say no.

Which is exactly why you shouldn't have lent him your ID. Sounds like he's an irresponsible guy :csad: Unfortunately, when you give out your ID, that means being open to anything happening. I'd never lend mine, because most bouncers are really strict nowadays.

Gotta agree with Bella here. If the guy is 28, he can wait a week or 2 to get a new freaking ID to get into a bar. Going to a bar is just about the least essential thing on the planet, so dont put yourself in any type of jeopardy so that someoneELSE can do the least essential thing on the planet, nevermind that the guy is a freaking adult himself.

On to the problem, go to the bar during the day or as soon as they open and just tell them what happened. Take the guy with you and have him bring a birth certificate.

And no, your birthday is NOT ruined if you cant get into bars.

Go to the DMV and get a New one, say the other was stolen. It'll cost like $6-7 bucks, right?
