I'm going to the comic book store tommarow. Do you have any suggestions about what issues of Spider-Man I should get?

Do you mean like, current issues? Or classics?

Aight, for current, get the first six issues of Sensational (23-28, confusing I know), see if you can find the first 12 issues of MKSM or get the hardcover if you can't, and try to grab the 5 part Spider-Man/ Human torch miniseries. You might like the Civil War story running in ASM right now(ASM 532-534). And pretty much the entire Ultimate Spider-Man run in general

For classics, obviously the Death of Gwen Stacy tpb, Kravens Last Hunt, (In singles or tpb form), Death of Jean Dewolf (Spec 107-110), Nothing Can Stop the Juggarnaut (ASM 229-230), The Kid Who Collected Spider-Man(ASM 248), The Spider-wedding (ASM 290-292, ASM annual 21, Spec annual 7), Most of the crap with Venom(He'll be on the cover), and of course ASM v2 38

That's a lot of comics. I doubt I'll be able to afford all those, but those are pretty good suggestions. :)

Yeah, I'd go with the Sensational issues first. ASM currently is quite mediocre, IMO, but the Death of Gwen Stacy and Kravens Last Hunt are pretty safe bets.

Oh, and if it's there, Spider-Man: Blue is great too.

Yeah, try and get the Spider-Man: Blue tpb if you can, its great. I wouldn't get Sensational, except for the last issue that came out.

That is a HUGE question... and it depends on what you like...

Answer this question and I can give you a better opinion:

Have you read any Spider-Man comics before? If so, what and when?

If you are a relative newbie go ahead and answer these:

What got you interested in reading Spider-Man comics?

What is it about the character that attracted you?

Which villains or supporting characters are you most interested in?

Are you more interested in drama or action or both equally?

How old are you?

What IS your budget... like, how much can you spend a week?

:)

I've read several of them. I can't remember specific titles, but I know I've read several. I've been reading Spider-Man since I was young. Like 5 or 6. I have a big book with about 20 or more issues in it. I have the comis adaptation of Spider-Man 2. I have one issue of Ultamate I got free with a sweatshirt I got. So, I'm not really a Spider-Man comic newbie.

i'm gonna go with anything drawn by john romita jr. he's one of the only ones that can draw spider-man, for my money.

You've been reading since you were young, but you don't really remember what... not sure what to do with that... so let me take a guess. :)

If you like the movies and Ultimate Spider-Man, I bet you'd like the recent addition to the titles... "Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane." It's out of continuity (meaning not in the official canon), but a lot of fun. It's very well written with lots of relationship drama. It tells the high school story of Peter and Mary Jane from MJ's point of view... it's got great dialog and character development. It really pulls you in... I look forward to it every month.

Here's a good list along those lines (I'm just adding the links so you can read about them, but they will be at your comic book shop):

Mary Jane - Novels (1 & 2): So engaging... Great pencil drawings. Not a whole lot of Spider-Man, but Peter is so adorable...I loved these books. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/07...4772/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-6035943-6320746?ie=UTF8
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/07...4772/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-6035943-6320746?ie=UTF8

Mary Jane - Circle of Friends: The first of the three graphic novels. Seriously, they are better than you would think... I read ALL the titles and it's so refreshing to have one that just makes me smile...
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/078511467X/ref=pd_bxgy_img_b/104-6035943-6320746?ie=UTF8

Mary Jane - Homecoming: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0785117792/ref=pd_bxgy_img_b/104-6035943-6320746?ie=UTF8

Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/07...144772/ref=sr_1_2/104-6035943-6320746?ie=UTF8

You'd probably like Ultimate Spider-Man too. The best way to get lots of back issues cheap, is to buy the hardcover volumes. There are 6 volumes out so far. They might be more expensive at the retail store, but they are pretty cheap new and used on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/07...ef=sr_1_4/104-6035943-6320746?ie=UTF8&s=books

A fairly recent story that was excellent was Marvel Knights Spider-Man, Issues #1-12. It's been collected into a hardcover version too.

Of course there is the main title - Amazing Spider-Man
A really good bet are these Graphic Novels by J. Michael Staczynski (the current writer of ASM):
Vol. 1, "Coming Home"
Vol. 2, "Revelations"
Vol. 3, "Until the Stars Turn Cold"
Vol. 4, "The Life and Death of Spiders"
Vol. 5, "Unintended Consequences"
Vol. 6, "Happy Birthday"
Vol. 7, "The Book of Ezekiel"
(Skip Vol. 8 - not recommended)
Vol. 10, "New Avengers"

Here is a long list of suggestions I posted to another, asking a similar question:

Back issues. TPBs are your best friend.

You should just get the Amazing Spider-Man 40 year history CD-ROM. That'll catch you up on pretty much everything Spider-Man. And it's a lot cheaper than buying all the back issues.

Well, I am back from the comic book store and I picked these up. And yes, that is me holding the comics. Did I pick good ones?

Agreed. this CD-ROM helped me learn mostly everything about the Amazing Spider-Man... (and it helped me with my arguements against these uber posters... j/k)

ASM 246... great issue. That was during one of the greatest periods for spider-man writing.

Not sure what you're going for... but, you'd get a lot more bang for your buck collecting issues in TPB... unless there was just ONE great issue that you wanted as a collector. Although stories are rarely told in one issues these days.

I noticed you totally ignored everyone's advice.

Did you enjoy them? Will you be picking up comics on a regular basis now?

Well, none of the issues people suggested were at the store. That's why I didn't use anyone's suggestions. And yes, I did enjoy them. Very good issues. And I might be able to continue collecting, if I get more money.

If you went to a comic book shop, I would bet money they were there somewhere (at least the ones I suggested)... or you really need to find a different book store! And don't forget... sometimes the BEST deals are new or used on Amazon. Try following some of those links.

Anyway, if money is tight, you might be interested in reading FREE downloads on Donald "Spider-Man" Thomas' website: http://www.donaldspidermanthomas.com/html/library.html

Every month, in his library, he makes a bunch of comics available for downloading and reading. There is a list of titles that are available... that is, a list of ACTIVE links (comics you can download) at the top of the page. Only the covers labeled in RED can be READ. Some are PDFs and some need a software called comic book reader .cbr (I think). Both are available online for free.

I know that right now he has loaded some of the favorites people have been requesting lately. Reading on a computer screen isn't as fun as a paper copy, but it'll do in a pinch! :)

Hey, you're a real girl!! Congratulations!! There's some guy on here with his website that has Spider-Man:Blue for free and other comics. I just found that out. ^_^
