Sequels If MOS gets made and is a great film... Will people revisit SR and like/hate it more?

So if the sequel ends up delivering... Do you think people who disliked it will go back and watch it liking it more...? Or do you think maybe even people that liked SR will find it to be a little underwhelming now?

Just curious what kind of affect a great sequel will have on how SR a good film is perceived in the long run.

For the majority of people here.....I believe the ones who hate SR will still hate it and the ones who loved it will still love it.

I dunno. Things that I found more forgiving in SR pre-uber sequel might be less forgiving seeing a much tighter Superman film.

I agree. If a really good sequel is made, something to the calibre of Spider-Man 2 (just an example, lets not debate the quality of Spider-Man 2)...that may cause people to be a little less forgiving about SR's shortcomings.

If I see the SR sequel is drastically better, I'll ask myself why Singer couldn't do the same with SR. Sorry, I don't buy the "setting up characters" line. With X-Men and X2, it was understandable. Fox screwed him on X-Men, and he had much more control on X2. But with SR he had every resource available.

I think that is a real possibility and I say that as an SR fan. Btw Spidey 2 is the best Spidey film to date, not debatable

If the sequel is good I wonder how much backstory will be in it and how much Donner's influence can be left? I mean. It's quite possibile iif Singer is really making his own story and vision with no more nostalgia it could feel like the actual start of the new franchise.

But right there you hit a road block. It is a sequel to a Donner sequel. Whether we like it or not, we have real-estate fraud Lex, we have the kid, we have dead Pa Kent...there are too many connections to seperate it from the Pseudo-Donner-verse.

Way off topic, but this reminded me. For a movie thats supposed to be all about fathers and sons, Jonathon Kent is strangely left out of the entire movie. Not really even mentioned.

US, June 24, 2007 - The live-action Justice League of America movie took another step towards becoming a reality earlier this month when the screenplay for the highly anticipated comic book movie was handed in to Warner Bros.

According to Variety, spouses-screenwriting partners Kieran Mulroney and Michele Mulroney delivered their draft to the studio, which was reportedly pleased with it. The trade says the Mulroneys' script includes "a half-dozen of the best-known superheroes working together, including Batman and Superman."

The JLA project, however, poses a bit of a problem for Warners as they must decide whether they will release a JLA movie before the next Superman movie.

Variety asks, "Will a souped-up Justice League prove to be Kryptonite to Superman?" The trade seems to be a bit schizophrenic on the JLA/Superman sequel issue. Variety itself began the Superman sequel doom and gloom last summer when it reported that the sequel was not a sure thing considering Superman Returns' lukewarm domestic box office. Then, when the online community rumored that the Super-sequel might be shelved in favor of JLA, the trade blasted the claims, saying, "Assertion would be on a par with saying Sony or Paramount would put their respective Spider-Man and Indiana Jones properties into turnaround." Now the same paper is asking, "Will superteam eclipse Superman sequel?"

In any case it appears to now be a legitimate concern since Superman director Bryan Singer is about to shoot Valkyrie and there's still no screenplay for the Super-sequel.

I think those who truly hate it will probably still hate it.

But it's possible that, seeing how things work in a sequel, they may accept things they didn't beforehand - Jason, for instance. If MOS takes the father/son angle into a great direction, obviously people may look back on SR in a different light.

IMO, I feel this kid was one of the worst ideas ever put in a comic book film. It has really dampened my hopes for the sequel. I just can't get too excited knowing part of this movie will have to deal with the development of this character which I have absolutely 0% interest in. Also, the kid will lose a lot of his cute factor in the next film as he will be 3-4 years older which will make the whole father and son relationship between him and Superman look even stranger for me(as I thought Brandon was just way too young looking for a returns and being a father story in SR).

To have this kid introduced/thrusted in a soap opera who's your daddy type atmosphere is a total turn off to me. Sure, it creates drama, but is it the right drama and tone for a Superman movie, I don't think it is. MOS would have to be a ridiculously fantastic movie for me to really like SR and appreciate how certain storylines were set up. I don't see it happening though. I'm so up and down on this movie but lately this movie has really soured on me. Real estate Lex, the kid, the storylines, I just don't care enough about them to really want a sequel to them. It's why I just don't have the high hopes for MOS even if by some miracle we get a new villain who isn't Zod.

I doubt it. I've didn't like Batman Returns as a kid. Now that I'm older, I get it better, but I stilll don't enjoy it like Batman.

I cant respect fans who would flipflop and change their opinions on a film from time to time; especially based on circumstances unrelated to the actual film itself. Everyone here has seen SR enough times to form an opinion on it; the sequel shouldnt change that.

for me, if the sequel is huge, which i pray it is, then i will still view SR the same( a great premise poorly excecuted)
