As much as I loved the first Spider-Man movie when I was a kid (espacialy for
Willem Dafoe ... and the fact that It was the first Spider-Man movie), SONY took the right choice to reboot the Spider-Man franchise.
Why?
Because
Tobey Maguire portrayal of
Peter Parker and Spider-Man is way too far from the character created by Stan Lee. Is that Sam Raimi's fault or Tobey's fault ? Bit of both.
"He's a nerd", okay we get it.
But Sam Raimi forgot that Peter
used to be a nerd, outsider, until his uncle died and he became Spider-Man. A
fter that, he's not that nerd, goofy guy anymore.
In fact, Peter is an intelligent, smart looking guy. If someone disagree with that fact, maybe he should take a look at TASM comics. Hey, after all, it's the source material !
Concerning
Spider-Man,
Sam Raimi clearly nailed the spectacular vibe of the character with his action sequences. Webb too, but only in
TASM 2.
BUT, concerning Peter Parker alter-ego himself, Sam Raimi didn't nailed the wise cracking / joke of the character.
The reboot does.
The only thing that could have make me change my mind would have been to cast Jake Gyllenhaal in the 2nd movie instead of Tobey.
I'm pretty sure he would have been a better Peter Parker (and maybe a better Spidey) than Tobey.
There's also more reasons explaining why I'm glad SONY decided to reboot Spider-Man franchise...
I know that people on this forum love Sam Raimi's movies more than Marc Webb's movies.
That's why it's just my opinion. Some will agree, some won't.
