If the JLA gets Made how would you design the Costumes?????

Then just adjust the colors. You don't have to design all the costumes with eye blinding colors. Just mute them a bit down or darken them for a real life setting.

I love Alex Ross his artwork looks like a Polaroid Photograph. Perfect!

Painting is a different thing than real life/movie sets. You can control all the colors and how they interact with each other. Those bright colors in a real world setting would look ridiculous I'm sorry to say.

I disagree with Artistsean. Having them appear in their own movie is the best way. It's easier to take in one hero in a bright costume than several together. And don't say X-Men or FF because those were team heroes, but the costumes were exactly the same color and easier to take in as a group.

This is a story about Superheroes...why is it important that they match? Why do their colors have to be "toned down"? These characters are INDIVIDUALS who come together to fight a common menace. Their supposed to STAND OUT and be different from each other. That's the whole point of the league. What you want them all to wear blue so that when the action gets heavy you can't tell who is doing what?

The JLA costumes should stay exactly how they are. They don't need to be revamped, toned down, or matched. Colors are beautiful, everything doesn't have to be dark and shadowy. Since when does "Real World" mean bland and colorless. The last time I check the world was FULL of colors and variety, the league should reflect this. :oldrazz:

I agree! I think movie makers are getting way too caught up in these ultra realistic take on superhero movies. I’ve said it before, superheroes don’t exist in the real world so why get too caught up in making them realistic and attempting to justify it by dressing the X-Men in black leather outfits. Superheroes are modern day Greek Gods. They were created to be colorful and larger than life. They can do things us mere mortals can’t do such as fly, crawl on walls, shoot blades out of there fists, shoot green energy from rings, run at the SPEED OF LIGHT (the speed at which light travels in a vacuum; the constancy and universality of the speed of light is recognized by defining it to be exactly 299,792,458 meters per second).

The only thing I ask of those working on JLA the movie is to honor the fans and the creators by not fu#*ing it up by giving the members some horrible version of the costume based on what it would look like in reality.

^True, they could've kept the same material for X-men and given it different colors. NOt everything has to be all black leather. Yellow and Blue wolverine could've been done in leather, look at astonishing x-men. With FF I can see this, since that's their gimmick( they dress alike), but x-men have always had different members and the different costumes reflects that.

Just because they are supposed to be larger than life, doesn't mean they have to be run around in overly bright colors. Just look at the TV Flash. He didn't wear a bright red costume like in the Alex Ross picture. IMO Movie Flash should have the exact same coloring as TV Flash, or something similar.

Or maybe something like the Ultimate Flash design.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with tweaking the colors or even the costume itself to be adjusted for the movie as long as original look of the suit stays intact. But for crying out loud don’t go over board by screwing the damn thing up by completely reinventing the costume to the point where it’s unrecognizable and bares no resemblance to the original source material. Christopher Nolan for example is a good director and I think he did a fine job with BB. The only thing I hated about the movie is his ultra realistic take on the costume for its functionality and protection for the wearer. From what I’ve seen so far with The Dark Knight things have gotten worse. In BB the suit was way too bulky and in TDK he looks like a SWAT team member on steroid. Nolan got too caught up in the reality and lost the POW! BIFF! BANG! GOLLY GEE WOW! That made the comic books so appealing to me as a kid. Where is the fantasy? If you realy want to get technical about the functionality and the protection the suit provides its wearer. If I was Bruce Wayne, the last thing I would do before I go out to fight crime in the middle of the night is put on 100 pounds of leather and equipment and I certainly would not attempt to jump roof top to roof top and fight with all that garbage on. I would be dead inside of two minutes no matter what my physical abilities are. I would go for the tighter, sleeker, and quieter costume like the original. The color scheme of the black and gray is perfect for cover and concealment and light enough for me to move fast in. Plus all that leather is very noisy which is one of the biggest complaints any SWAT Team, police officers or anyone in the tactical industry has. Sorry for the rant.

The way I see it, the films for solo characters can be the conduits to allow for creative liberation from the comic books in terms of costumes. But for an ensemble like "Justice League" and maybe "Teen Titans" in the future, I'd like to see them stick closer to the books and give the characters a classic look right from the pages of the comics.

That being said, here's comic book references on how I'd like the League to look in the film:

This is kick ass thread! I like the ideas floating around. I recently came up with my idea of a Supes costume for the sequel to Returns assuming it happens. I would also want this for the Justice League movie though. I didn't change that much really. Changed the cut of his undies, fixed the neckline, made the symbol bigger and glossy looking, shorter cape, and went with the belt Gary Frank used in that sketch as seen in Wizard. Oh, and colors are different of course.

Not bad. Although I'm not too sure about the belt.

Honesty, I don't mind the SR belt. Most people seem to hate it though.

I don't mind the SR belt either, but maybe classic is the way to go.

Well s***, if they're just gonna recast Routh anyway I guess they might as well redo the suit completely as well. Otherwise, I'd want some sense of continuity.

There's hope that the fan outcry will knock some sense into the heads of the people at WB. They want to cast a younger Batman and Superman, but like it's been said in another thread, how do you go younger than Year One Batman and a Superman that sometimes already looks borderline Superboy?

Have Supes, Bats, Flash, GL, Aquaman and MM in their traditional costumes.

Have Wonder Woman run around naked.

Done deal.

You're absolutely Right. These are larger than like extraordinary fictional characters. People shouldn't be so concerned with realism when a man can Fly or run at super speed. If you are then you're missing the whole freaking point. Superheroes wear bright colored uniforms and stand out from the crowed, that's why they're SUPER!

You're also very Correct. The X-Men costumes could have been easily adapted for the big screen without putting them all in the latest Biker Attire. I felt like they should have all been riding Harleys or something.

The Thing to remember with these Superhero teams is that most of them are INDIVIDUALS with vastly different personalities and super abilities. A HUGE part of their Dynamic and Charm is that EACH character is different and special in their own way! Their attire reflects this! The X-men very well could have been done in varying colors, like yellow and blue. Last time I checked they ALL rocked something very different in color and design.

I Blame singer for the whole dark leather X-Men and bland Superman costume fiasco, but don't get me started on that atrocity. :csad:

I love Alex Ross as much as the next guy, but this would look absolutely ridiculous as is. For one thing, no one has those unbelievably huge physiques required to fill out those spandex costumes without looking ridiculous. Secondly, all those bright colors together on screen would be so dizzying it would be laughable.

Before you say it (because I know you will), I'm in no way suggesting they adopt a uniform style. That worked in X-Men, but won't for JLA. They just need to thicken up the material and enrich the colors, ala Spider-Man or Superman Returns.

I don't care whether they have a guy that can fly, another one that can shapeshift or someone that can run faster than the speed of light. If you make a real life adaptation of super heroes, it's a matter of what is most pleasing to the eyes. And overly bright costumes are not.

They should go the same route Spider-Man and Superman Returns went. As posted above. Keep the design but keep the colors down.

If they go by the Alex Ross artwork it'll look like that crappy TV JLA movie from a few years back.

I have to concur with these statements - as technically talented as Ross is - he does hanker for a by-gone age. His depictions are a tad old-fashioned and he doesnt seem to recognise any other material that can be used for a superhero costume other than spandex.

It just really seems slick and snazzy.

You're telling me that athletic people in colorful skintight outfits would be unrealistic?

A guy in a red shirt is the same as a guy dressed in red from head to toe. Okay...
