If the JLA gets Made how would you design the Costumes?????

And that further proves your point how? He looks ridiculous in that getup.

Funny. Speed skating and track are what I looked at for reference when I did my own Flash suit.

I wouldn't really update the costumes. IMO, the movie should be a period piece (think New Frontier). Visually, I think it should resemble an Alex Ross painting. Go for maybe an "Astro City" sort of superhero nostalgia. In that context, I think the classic comic book costumes would work.

or the same suits from the original lol

You do some really great stuff, not feeling the footwear though. But I think it's a wise decision to give Flash some glasses or lenses to protect his eyes while he's running.

Do you have more sketches like for GL or other heroes?

SUPERMAN: Neo-classic costume, much like Routh's supersuit, sans "lines".

BATMAN: An all-black Batsuit. Given that this movie would need to put him in perspective next to the other, more brightly colored heroes, I'd like to see the suit be as creaturelike and batlike as possible. Lots of sharp edges. Lenses in the cowl, etc.

WONDER WOMAN: Gold/silver armor and a leather cullotte. Armor and helm for later in the film.

J'ONN J'ONNZ: Black or dark blue or possibly dark green Martian "armor" that incorporates the classic "X" chest design, and a long, flowing black or dark blue cloak. No buccaneer boots, but his legs and feet would be covered. J'onn's armor and cloak, being Martian and organic, would morph along with him, into his civilian clothes or costume.

GREEN LANTERN: All black jumpsuit with raised metallic green lantern insignia. The aura would form most of the interesting visuals of Lantern's costume. In addition, if the GL is Kyle Rayner, the character could be constantly switching costumes or using variations on his, as he does in the comics.

THE FLASH: Padded, quasi-armored red supersuit and raised lightning bolt insignia with lensed helmet with earpieces.

AQUAMAN: Some combination of robes, cloak and armor. He could have battle-armor that resembled his classic look, incorporating golds and green colors.

I think for Aquaman this could work pretty well.

Thanks. I always thought Flash should really be wearing shoes. Knee high boots really aren't the best things to be running in. Track shoes just made sense. I'll probably keep going down the line and try to get to all the characters eventually. Not sure what I'll do for GL though. He's pretty tricky, though I like a lot the ideas people have come up with on these boards.

I think my only worry is that at the speed he's running me might eventually slip out of his shoes. Altough it doesn't seem to be a problem when he's running around in his civilian getup. So let's forget what I just said.

If they go by the Alex Ross artwork it'll look like that crappy TV JLA movie from a few years back.

First off...that JLA movie was done for crap money and those costumes can hardly be considered faithful to the originals...

Secondly, I'm Not saying they should use the shiny spandex material. I'm just saying they need to keep the designs of the costumes and the basic colors. For Example, don't be changing where the "S" on the Superman costume is and DON'T try to make me believe that burgundy is suddenly the new Red. I know my primary colors I went to preschool, thank you.

Keep the designs, Use the Spider-Man Fabric, keep the colors Dynamic. Simple. :woot:

I think this would be a neat opportunity to have Batman in the black and gray costume, but if they stick with the TDK suit, then that's fine too.

In general I really don't care what the costumes looks like as long as they stay fairly true to the original designs
I'd prefer they try and remain loyal to the comics and go black and grey. Though to be fair I really just hope they're distancing the JLA movie as far from the Chris Nolan Batman movies as possible.

Careful what you ask for...They might just out do them. :woot:

I mean, hey, better costume, cooler action, more faithful character development...it could happen.

The way I see "JLA" overall is that, since the solo films take more creative liberations from the source material, this is Warner's chance to do a comic book film that is nearly at least 90% faithful to the comic books.

In the writing
In the costumes
In the characterizations
In nearly every facet of the production

I think it goes too far away from the classic/original. I don't have an issue with it when it comes to comics (if the REAL Aquaman wore it) but it is different when it comes to outside the comics.

The "battle" armor look is not exactly bad, but you need to make it more like the classic look. So I would remove the shoulder pads, scrap the sword. Now, perhaps we can see Aquaman in different suits in the movie (while in Atlantis, while doing his roles as King, and then while fighting).

I'm going to post a picture that I was depicting in my post for this thread earlier. Jim Lee drew this Aquaman pick flawlessly. The way he drew the classic shirt, makes it almost look like a chainmail/armor; it gives that kind of flare/vibe to it. And then he also adds to the classic look these golden things (don't know what exactly to call them) on his gloves. And lastly, he adds more of a thick, metal looking trimming his neck.

So it makes Aquaman look like he has some sort of "armor" on to a point (like I think you were going for with the OYL Aquanewb suit). I think this would be the perfect look for him:

Classic, but improvised.

Perhaps to add even more to this, there can be mention in the film that the scales he wears on him are pretty damn thick; further adding to the "King in armor" kind of idea. Makes sense if you ask me.

Exactly! And seeing as though thats pretty much what I want from my comic book films, I'm gung-ho, full steam ahead ready for JL Film.

With this film now being CG, for the moment, I see absolutely no reason
(none at all, zero, completely no reason, at the moment)
why they couldn't just transfer completely the costumes from the comic, with absoluletly no changes whatsoever.

It would be a CG world, the comic costumes would make complete sence without any modifications that the real would requires.

They could make them look like the old fashioned 70s JLA, model them after the Batman Begins and Superman Returns versions (real actors), or even model them after Alex Ross' versions.

It would be nice to see the JLA appear on screen as they appear in the comics, something like this:

I love Alex Ross as much as the next guy, but this would look absolutely ridiculous as is. For one thing, no one has those unbelievably huge physiques required to fill out those spandex costumes without looking ridiculous. Secondly, all those bright colors together on screen would be so dizzying it would be laughable.

Before you say it (because I know you will), I'm in no way suggesting they adopt a uniform style. That worked in X-Men, but won't for JLA. They just need to thicken up the material and enrich the colors, ala Spider-Man or Superman Returns.

There are plenty of actors and actresses with physiques that could fill the costumes without looking rediculous. As for the colors, since Ross paints in a photo-realistic style, if it works in his paintings (which it does) it will work on film (another two dimensional medium). Thicker materials and some added detail (similar to the webbing on Spider-Man's costume) would be about all that's needed in going from Ross' work to the film.

I hope all the costumes will be like in the comics, hopefully BatMan will get his yellow oval back, that plain Bat looks too dull. And it has nothing to do with stealth, that yellow oval's no big deal, usually when he hides he pulls his cape over it anyway.

That oval was all his own, it said Batman, it was unique like Superman's shield, now it is just a drab bat that looks like a generic halloween decoration.
