I get that, and understand your frustration, but I think that's causing you to misinterpretation my intent. I don't mean that they need Norman to sit there and explain anything. I mean that they can simply show him pick up a mask of that style and put it on/take it off. But while the actor is actually wearing it, its prostethics. It's got nothing to do with adding realism, infact its actually about suspended disbelief because theres no way a full blown mask could smote the way we want the goblins to.

I think the formula transform Adder into a monster, hence, PG. After Norman learns how to tone down the formula; yet, preserve it enhancement properties, he realize the hideous look could strike fear in his adversaries….which falls in line with his own feelings. So he don a goblin mask to strike fear. An explanation that we didn’t get in Raimi’s film as to why he just don’t wear a helmet or nothing at all.

It really really baffles me..

To be honest , I wasn't all that thrilled with any of the Sam Raimi Spider-man films , sure , I enjoyed seeing Spider-man come to the big screen and do well , but over all , wasn't to impressed and was quite happy to hear about the reboot ..

I thought casting of Toby Maguire as Peter Parker was wrong , I thought Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane was wrong , I thought Mary Jane even being in the first movie was wrong , James Franco as Harry Osborn wasn't even close , the Green Power Ranger wanna be Green Goblin was a joke

The second movie was the best , but I didn't understand why they had to jump ahead like 2 years , in comic book time , thats like a life time

The third movie really sucked , turning Sandman into Uncle Bens real killer was just wasy wrong , brining in Gwen after the fact was wrong , and gesh , I really don't wanna go into Topher Grace as Venom , that was beyound bad

So , even though many were / are upset about the reboot , I'm actually looking forward to it , will they get it right , I have no idea , but they still have to get it closer then what Sam Raimi did

I just hope they get Spider-man's smartassisum right this time , Toby Maguire , just never had the knack for being a smartass while wearing the costume

Well, if they were to go that route they would have to build up Norman's fascination with goblins before he dons the suit. It would be a plot hole not to explain why he is dressing up as the Green Goblin IMO.

Even as a kid, I thought that Goblin's mask was hard to translate into a movie if it's just a mask. It's appropriate for a comic; movie? umm..

This sounds silly as heck but I wouldn't mind it they used (fanboy cliche) nano-tech for a mask/helmet and you can alter it's appearance by choice. Its Chameleon-ish, but if you want a Goblin face that can emote but can provide protection and identity it could work.

Yeah, I never really complained about Dafoe's Green Goblin because I could never think of a way to have a mask actually work the way it does in the comics on screen. To express emotions it'd have to be painted on, basically. Although it's in comics a lot, I have yet to ever see a mask that actually works like that. Not that I'm against it, I just don't see it working.

If they do GG again, they can just give him a prosthetic mask that is actually scary. That will be a big enough change to work. Albeit, it will be hard to do an ariel battle better than the one between Peter and Harry in SM3, but DOFGS is worth it.

Someone mentioned Norman being a stickler for medieval masks. I love that idea. It gives him a reason to be so theatrical with his goblin appearance. If they use an SPFX goblin mask to let him emote, I think it could work.

Honestly, since Norman's not exactly poor, I don't see too much of a problem with using an expensive mask and prosthetics to scare the living hell out of people. He's a billionaire, a scientific genius and an obsessive psychotic. It doesn't seem far fetched for him to compulsively and meticulously craft a demonic persona to inhabit. Especially if he's obsessed with medieval art & masks (great idea, btw). It could even be an awesome creepy scene where he adds the layers of his goblin face, both manic and slow. I mean have you seen those YouTube videos of kids using masks, prosthetics and makeup and turning themselves into demons and stuff? If they can do it, Norman can.

I agree! But not so much with a Norman mask.

I've said it before, but a cross between Ultimate and 616 is what I'd like. A formula that doesn't make him hulk like, but similar to Captain America/Red Skull's transformation.
Not overdone body wise, but have his skin discolour and his features warp to look just a little extra bit creepy! With that, tie in the medieval stuff and have him portray the goblin role.

Of course, have the transformation be controllable by Norman (vials of goblin serum maybe?) so we can have the duality factor in too.
