If you could design the Smallville version of the Superman costume?

sorry man, didn't mean to be insulting, I was just capitalizing your name, because it was a statement directed at you. I JUSt messed up typing because I was going to fast. It was not meant as an insult in any way.
understood

But I hold ture to my opinion on fundamental redesigns of the costume. I don't think it's needed. What's needed, is a costume maker, to make a classic costume that fits properly. Take the SR costume... adjust the cape/neck attachement, and replace the tiny male stipper trunks with something with atleast the fit of a standard male speedo bathingsuit, and it's pretty much done. Maybe adjust the shild slightly, and whatever belt (doens't matter in the end, it's just a belt). Pretty simple for me to write it down... for some odd reason, idiots in the tv/movie business just can't seem to wrap their heads around such a simple concept.

Lastly, if this was a comic or a production sketch, like the above pics, I wouldn't really ahve a problem with redesigns, but when it comes to live action. Superman should be superman, and he should look exactly like superman.

I can respect that.

here is a very quick manip, the problem when you remove the undies is that the belt looks very high, i tried to lower that as well to help the design. i personally like the undies, but want to spark discussion:yay:

this picture really hammers home why the undies are an important part of the costume. Even with the belt adjusted to accentuate the hips, it still doesn't jive. The trunks are needed to break up the costume. The belt isn't enough IMO

Without the undies, the suit would definitly look abit too plain, if SV had to go with a costume design, I'd say go with Alex Ross' design, it's just the classic suit with a very big S:

Someone even made a wax model of alex ross' superman, I think it's very classic & can work... I chose this bcos it's the most classic suit of superman, it has the S you get on most Superman T-Shirts & the colours are not dull, dark or faded (except for the blue maybe) Sorry for the big picture sizes...

i agree bob, the colors are very rich and the \S/ is very large accentuating (sp?) the chest, my personal favorite

i agree superfreak that the trunks are needed to break up the costume, if you lose them something other design has to replace it to break it up, then your redesigning the suit

avidreader, do you have in pictures of costume designs in particular that are more contemporary that you like, or is it all in your head...if you tell me what your thinking i will try my best to cook it up for you

Samurai, I did see it, thanks. :yay: The belt could probably be tweaked with a little red in it, but otherwise, I thought it looked good and sexy. :cwink:

I love the suit that you've got going. I'm all for the traditional look of the suit, but I would just like to see how it would look without the red trunks looking like he slipped his briefs on over his outfit.

here you go avid, i think design wise the simple two tone belt helps visually break up the top and bottom

Even though many would want a redesign for Smallville, when it comes down to it, the Superman costume has to be THE Superman costume. No changes, except for maybe the brightness of the color, and of course the Smallville version of the S Shield.

BTW, I do have the Smallville S Shield:

Plus, is there a way to take that and place on the Welling/Superman pic (the one with no changes)?

i can do that for you, i got some other stuff to do though, so i will probably have it up by tommorow

Sry, SamuraiSon6, but I justw anted to remind you of what you said a week ago by bringing this thread a new post.

^^high with trunks, but much lower without trunks

i dont know if you saw the manip i did above for you, it has no trunks and i lowered the belt to make it look more natural

To be honest, because I'm so used to the trunks - he looks rather... naked without them.

LOL.

It's funny because though the undies seem designed to draw attention, the much 'blueness' actually does that very effect.

Which, I suppose, is the reason the undies were included in the first place. The treatment of Superman overall has always been somewhat somber, so and not like that of Batman particularly in the sixties so any 'embarrassing' impact the undies may have is actually deduced for that.

Tweaks are fine: they are always to be expected with every live action and animated adaptation of the Caped Crusader, even of the Superboy series in the name of supplanting the vision of their show but what works, works.

And on another note - don't like the McG suit. Among other reasons, it seems to supplement his vision for the film he was originally going to do, which was to say the very least, radical. I'm surprised that a number of you think otherwise, but you forget how Smallville interprets itself: it's no McG for sure.

Honestly, I'd rather a darker blue than a darker red *cough* SR *cough*

I think he already as a costume. A red or blue t-shirt with a flannel shirt or a jacket over it. :D
