I don't have a problem with making Wolverine the "leading man" the way it was done in X1. That story obviously focued on him and was told from his POV as he learns abou the X-men and their world around him. That is fine.

But to literally make Wolverine the "Leading Man", ie in charge of the X-men and start acting like a father figure and commander and give grand speeches as they go into battle... that's really pushing it.

The problem with making him the 'vehicle' for the story in X1 is that the X-Men were rather cold and marginalised - they were like workers in the same office building, there was no warmth and not much depth. Wolverine was allowed to mock their codenames, even though he himself used a nickname and had travelled with a teenage girl who, rather inexplicably, also used a codename. This may have worked in terms of satisfying the Fox suits who wanted Wolverine to be a swaggering no-nonsense Clint Eastwood, but it established something that had to be followed through and developed in subsequent movies. No surprise when Cyclops was pushed aside in X2, no surprise when we saw a Jean/Logan love scene in X2 (courtesy of Mystique's transformation) when we hadn't seen a Jean/Scott love scene at all....

Movieverse Wolvie has a second mutation. It's just that they couldn't be bothered to mention it. :D

He leeches off the commendable traits/personas of other characters. Cyke and Storm's protectiveness/leadership, Bobby's sense of humour, Gambit's flirtatious tendancies...

Really, there IS a good explanation for the whole thing. :D

PFFFFffffttt! Hahahahahahaaaa. You are so lucky I wasn't drinking milk. I coulda spewed lactose free milk everywhere. You so would have had to clean that up before it started to smell.

But yea, I saw how another poster had said that his secondary mutation was "flying high at the boxoffice." Now you've told us why he can do that.

Damn those secondary mutations.

I wonder what those Wolverine defenders will have to say. :cwink:

Exactly! A Jean / Logan love scene created by having Mystique be the one and not the real Jean. Whether an imposter, dream sequence, drug-induced hallucinations, it doesn't matter. That movie showed that Wolverine has fantasies about Jean, but that the real Jean turned him down and made her choice clear.
A choice which he accepted and walked away from both gracefully. To become whiny and clingy and go back in that direction, shoving everyone else aside to declare that only HE can save Jean because HE knows her best was IMHO double-plus-ungood.

Indeed.

One idea for the Wolverine movie was to have Emma Frost and Sentinels in it, with Wolverine being captured by the Sentinels in order to program the x-gene into their tracking devices. Not sure if Emma was to be his love interest, but one feared the worst. The Sentinels were to be single-handedly defeated by Wolverine and the program then put on ice. I believe this storyline has now been shelved, which is probably a good thing as Emma Frost is more linked with Cyclops and all the mutants deserve to battle the Sentinels....

A good thing indeed. But considering FOX's attitude, it somehow doesn't surprise me. They took a Scott-centric story like the Phoenix saga and turned it into one that's almost exclusively about Wolverine. It therefore isn't a shocker to me that they would do the same with Emma Frost and make her fall madly in love with Logan too. Won't they ever learn? What's next? Lemme guess:

A dark past comes back to haunt Wolverine. His name is Mr Sinister. Logan doesn't rememeber him but Nathaniel Essex remembers Logan. And he attempts to harvest Logan's genes in order to create an army of super mutants, able to survive anything from attacks with Nuclear weapons at point blank range to a enraged goddess on PMS.

Awww  I love you too, Goddess, your intelligence and strong positions. I don't always agree with all your points, but I feel your pain and exactly why do you have your points. You are indeed one of the most reasonable persons on this place.

::Waves:: Greetings NtCrawler. It's great to have you back offering your intelligent posts to this forum.

After rethinking about the Last Stand, I come to the conclusion once again that it was missed chances and the mishandling of great potential. The trailer made it seem like it was so epic, so powerful, so intelligent, and emotional when it was the complete opposite(In my Opinion).

One thing that would've been nice if it was explored was the essence of the cure. Instead of the cure being an actual medical cure, it would've been nice if it introduced the Sentinels. One of the reasons for that is it could've added more necessary darkness, intelligence, and show the absolute vicious side of mankind. What is the viciousness of mankind? Basically having Trask create the Sentinel program and using it to violently eradicate the mutants.

It would've been nice to see and would've been nice to explore. The concept of X3 looked great on paper, but in the end, it was just poorly executed due to politics and the choosing of the wrong director to close the trilogy. Is it the worst film in the world? No, it's not, it's far from being the worst film in the world or being the Batman and Robin of the X-Men series. I'd rather watch X3 than watch Batman and Robin.

It's one of the reasons why I'm becoming less and less excited about the Transformers film. The Transformers is about alien cyborgs battling one another and the cyborgs themselves have human qualities. Why would Bay ruin a great concept? What Bay is doing to Transformers is on par with what Fox, Kinberg, Penn, and Ratner did to the X-Men.

Transformers ain't come yet...don't speak too soon:cwink: ....the trailer looks great :trans:

Well, I only lke two Bay films. The Rock and Armageddon are my two favorite Michael Bay films. I just don't like the fact that they seem to be focusing more on the humans in Transformers rather than focusing on the machines themselves.

But we'll see. I'll definitely be there opening night to see it though. I just hope they move away from the humans and start concentrating more on the Transformers.

I haven't been keeping up to date with the transformer stuff...maybe their is stuff I'm missing out on...... I always liked michael bay......Bad boys, and I did like the Island :ninja: .....chase scene.....he does know how to do action

I'm not a fan of Micheal Bay nor am I happy about all the deviations from the original source material of Transformers however I think this movie will be 10x better than X-Men because it will at least have good action. The action in X3 did not impress me. One of the actors involved with Transformers suggested the action will be considerably better than all of the combined action sequences in X3.

Are you f****n kidding me???

OMG, if that's not worship/fanboy wet dream, I don't know what is.

What's next, Wolvie beating - all at once, of course - Thor, Odin, Hercules and Hulk in a battle royale???

The only good fight scene in the X3 trilogy belonged to the trinity of blue mutants. And even then, they weren't exactly that exciting since their opponents didn't stand a chance and never came close to actually landing ONE hit. It was basically just them pulling spiffy moves against defenseless opponents. :csad:

And yeah, based on the - great looking - trailer, we'll most likely ALL be disappointed at how much exposure the humans will get, but the action will totally obliterate anything we saw in X3.

LOL I don't understand why you're now comparing Ratner to Justin Timberlake, since you love Ratner so much. But hey, what an adept comparison, considering both of them are well-known hack in their respective fields that critics and people love to hate.

Sometimes I think we've giving Ratner far so less credit for his input on script.
The guy had practically boasted in every newspapers and major news websites that he was the one who had moved the Golden Gate Bridge ....We MUST give dues where they are truly deserved for his ingenious ideas (this was afterall the same director who cured Rogue, made Professor X a damned body snatcher and acknowledged a stupid internet youtube line instead of the relationship between X and Cain).
The movie had his personality written all over it (like he said himself it's a Ratner's movie).
I don't understand Ratner's warfed sense of humor & logics...but oh no I don't think he was lying to the press.

I do not 'love Ratner so much' so cut that crap out for a start!

And I agree it was wrong to cure Rogue and use that stupid youtube line for Juggernaut.... This is where the producers needed to be watching more closely, as Shuler-Donner herself said no X-Men member should take the cure.

^The action in X3 wasnt even that good, i dont know why so many people compliment it. The Wolverine scene in the woods was one of the worst CB movie action sequences EVER IMO, and did what i thought was impossible, it made Wolverine look silly. Plus the end battle was anything but epic, and was a REAL dissapointment to me.

The final battle was the biggest disappointment to me too. I was there, looking at it, but at no moment it made me anxious to see what would happen. Heck, it doesn't present ONE single moment of creative use of powers.

First, when I saw the X-men getting ready to it, I thought "already? I can't believe this damn movie is gonna end already. Where's the development?". Then, we see Storm spending the whole night to take out Callisto (because she doesn't do anything else), Wolverine doing the same ol' Logan job, Iceman making damn Ice walls and then going all Street Fighter style (seriously, you put a life level on the up corners and it's a 16bit video game battle).

Colossus shouldn't be in the movie at all. Not even in the action he has any part. I can't help but notice that the only reason he was there was so the crew could say "see fans? We put Colossus! Now clap your hands to our awesomeness!!!". Kitty and Beast still do some nice things, but that's it.

I remember laughing in the theater at the Wolverine fight scenes in the woods when Wolverine threw one of the spikes back at the Spikeman and hit him with the same accuracy!!!! I continued laughing when Wolverine blocked all those projectiles. I was wondering who were all those other useless mutants Wolverine killed during that scene because none of them used their powers. One of them was so powerless that he decided to carry a shotgun.
