Now, I found SM3 to be a HUGE disappointment. I am in no way defending this movie as a great film. However, I don't think this movie deserves to be called the 4th worst movie of all-time. I can name several movies that are much worse:

  • The Room
  • Green Lantern
  • Supergirl
  • Superman IV
  • The Punisher: War Zone
  • Troll 2
  • Contamination .7
  • Birdemic
  • Barb Wire
  • Howard the Duck
  • Alien 3
  • Alien Resurrection
  • Jack and Jill
The list goes on. SM3 is still an entertaining film, despite so many flaws. What do you think?

That poll wasn't from IGN, it was from Rifftrax.

And I hold Spider-Man 3 as a personal worst movie of all time, but that's just because of how much it disappointed me personally. As a film though it isn't anywhere near those other films.

In that sense, I agree. It really let me down, but 5 years later, I'm over it (sorta). But as a movie, its not that bad.

Worst movie of all time??? Um,NO. Not even close. Hell,it's not even the 4th worst comic book movie ever. I'm so damn tired of all the hate this movie gets. :cmad: Was it a great movie? No. Did it have alot of flaws? Sure. But there was alot of cool and good scenes/moments to it and it was very fun. I really enjoying watching it,and still do. Yeah,I was really disappointed and angry by the little screentime and development Venom got,the treating of the symbiote as a comedy device, too many characters;etc, etc. But I still like the film and always will. I don't know. Disliking the movie I can see,but the absolute hatred it gets? I don't understand that.

It gets the hatred IMO because of how disappointing it was. I think there is just so much resentment towards the film.

I can understand the disappointment. I was disappointed by some of it too,but for me "HATE" is a severe word. And for people to say they actually hate the movie is a very strong statement. I still don't think it deserves to be included onto any "worst of all time" list. But,it's just my opinion.

I definitely hate the film. It butchered my favorite Spider-Man villain as much as I hate Batman & Robin because it butchered my favorite Batman villain, albeit in B&R's case, I can laugh at that film because it's meant to be funny, S-M 3 wasn't meant to be a comedy and yet it was.

I think that's what makes some people use the word hate if it just butchers a favorite character to someone.

It's a bad movie, but the 4th worst movie? Not even close. It wouldn't even make the 50 worst movies ever made, IMO. Yes, I know Empire listed it in a list like that.

I can understand that a bit more. Being a Venom fanatic I am still upset at how underused and screwed over he was. And I do "hate" how the symbiote was played more for laughs than being taken seriously. But for some strange reason,I'm more angry at Sam Raimi than I am the film itself. Although,I realize that makes no sense. lol But despite the flaws I still find it a fun and entertaining film. A disappointing film, sure. But a bad movie? Not for me.

LOL.

This is just as dumb as when Empire said it to be the 50th worst movie ever made. :funny:

Same here.
It makes me think that these people haven't watched truly terrible and poorly done movies.

Co-sign. You hit the nail on the head; disappointing and resentment being the key words here. The first hour or so of the movie is good entertainment; it doesn't really cross the line until Brock becomes Venom. Silliness abound, but it had some of the best action sequences of the trilogy, and considering how many elements they were juggling with the plot, the movie was very well paced.

As for 4th worst all time? Maybe if you've only seen 4 movies. It was a below-average film, but it was more disappointing than anything else.

4th worst "spider-man movie" maybe... but of all-time, far from it

there are tons of movies that are far far worst

For me it crosses the line once Peter gets the emo hair. Then everything goes downhill. And even then the movie is really entertaining. Actually, its when he starts dancing in the Jazz club when I really get annoyed, not even dancing to "funky soul."

That's not IGN list

On first and second view I hated the film, but I didn't think it's in the worst films ever
On later views I didn't think it's a bad movie at all, it has some continuity errors and certain faults here and there, but overall it's a good film

Green Lantern isn't a bad film either
Batman & Robin is enjoyable, albeit not being a good film, the plot is pretty decent film deep inside and it had potential to be a well received finale

Some $#%^ films highly deserving to be listed (not the huilariously bad, the dull anger inducing kind of bad):
Click: It's supposed to make the character of Adam Sandler sympathetic, but he's a complete *****e and disrespects a great stepfather for his children
Howard the Duck: If not for the gliding scene I'd find a video of a dog urinating more entertaining than that film
Man-Thing: It was wrong to make that film to begin with
SAW 1-7: I can comment forever how horrible the supposed story of this series is
Scooby Doo: The sequel is a bit more tolerable
Tekken Blood Vengeance: The live action Tekken film is messed up, but quite entertaining. Animators said this animated film is supposed to make viewers forget the live action film ever existed, but instead they made something far worse
King of Fighters: It's too much $#%^, story is barely anything like the game, I got past that, but story is so bad it's beyond repair
Spawn: :barf:

And probably a lot more

Indeed. The vibe I got from that scene was that Raimi was trying to ape the tone of the Raindrops montage from Spider-Man 2, but it just wasn't as well placed, nor was it appropriate to what was going on. Honestly, I think it was also his way of giving the finger to the studio.

Agreed. That's exactly how I see it. They gave him a lot of **** during production, and ruined his film. So I guess his attitude was, "you want Venom? Here he is!" The raindrops scene in SM2 fit perfectly, and didn't come off that way.

They should have told him to put the symbiote in SM3 so he could introduce him in a future film at most. By adding the symbiote story, they had to take away from Sandman and Harry's story and make everything feel cluttered.

Have people forgotten about all those low budget 20 century superhero flicks? Or nearly the entire horror movie genre?

Spider-Man 3 might barely make it into my bottom 200. Maybe.

If I had no hype for Spider-Man 3 at all, I wonder how I would have reacted.

That would come off pretty pathetic and childish though, which is why I don't think Raimi's attitude was like that, only that he got caught up in the politics of Sony wanting their way, Arad wanting his way and Raimi still trying to achieve his vision.

If I had no hype for Spider-Man 3 at all, I wonder how I would have reacted.

This and also if someone's favorite villain wasn't in the film. If it was Sandman, Vulture and "New Goblin", I wonder if I would've just gone with the ride as I wasn't hyped up to see any other villain besides Venom, which is my favorite Spidey villain.

Weren't they still working on the script while filming? That is such a terrible move.

I still wish they would've filmed parts 3 and 4 together like they planned. Symbiote in 3 and Venom in 4.

I don't believe they were still writing while filming.

Spider-Man 3 and 4 was once planned to film together? Thought that was 4 and 5.
