In The Multiverse Of Madness Spoiler Discussion Thread

Another thing I liked is how they acknowledged being a superhero is like being a celebrity. They’re on lunchboxes. People ask to take pictures.
Truth be told this has already been seen or mentioned in other MCU movies and shows as well. Clearly Iron Man, but also in Spider-Man Homecoming, Thor Ragnarok, Infinity War and most recently Hawkeye and the Love and Thunder trailer.
I’m surprised there isn’t always a crowd on Bleeker St waiting for him to come out.
How rude. They have to let him figure it out on his own.

:hehe:

Really enjoyed the movie, as far as the variants the only ones I'd expect to be the "same" in the MCU are maybe Krasinki and a big big maybe to Mount.

I think we could get cooler choices in the main universe but they both did pretty good jobs and Krasinski would play a nice "caring" family man Reed much better than the overly critical, somewhat cold Reed

Inhumans 2017 was a Disney product. So like Charlie CoX I can see Marvel studios keeping Anson Mount for the future. The rest from that show is a big question mark. I want to see Medusa, Crystal, Karnak, Triton and Gorgon again. While Lockjaw is just CGI that doesn't need casting.

The two women are done in the 616, so imo there's nothing to look forward for them. Also Peggy Carter is just not an interesting character imo, I feel like she's that character who keeps coming back despite only having a real supporting role in just 1 movie. Like let her go and focus on someone else.

The main issue with Patrick Stewart is really his age. Marvel Studios would need someone to play the Professor for possibly at least ten years.

I winced at how easily Wanda made mincemeat out of the Illuminati. That was my only real gripe with this film, that they overpowered her just a tad. Reed didn’t even put up a fight against her lol.

I also loved them including Lashana Lynch in the group as Captain Marvel. Considering the comics history with a black woman being first with the moniker.

Dream walking or whatever really shouldve weakened her to a degree powerwise

I think people would have to get used with characters being killed so easily when its a variant or from another timeline/reality, there's resurrection, or in some cases a character getting stabbed/burnt so easily because ze has a healing factor. Its always been like that in the comiXs.

Did anyone else feel like this movie was like a live action, modern day version of Elden Ring? I probably just have that game on the brain because I’ve been playing it nonstop but so much made me think of it, from the shattered, floating structures to the red, Caelid-esque landscape where Wanda has been using the Darkhold. Pure coincidence that something with such a similar aesthetic came out shortly after the game but there were so many cool visual similarities.

Maybe not so much Elden Ring, but I think Elden Ring and FromSoftware do sometimes showcase similar thematic subject matter in the terms of magical weirdness and like mind-bending horrors and monsters that Doctor Strange sometimes operates in.

I wonder if T'Challa would have been a member of the Illuminati
They went with characters not in the MCU or variant version so no. Killmonger may have been but it was not going to be an alternate T'Challa(Boseman) if he never passed.

The first post credit scene was dumb. Between this and Starfox in Endgame, the tie for my least favorite. Why would Strange go off to some dimension with a person he literally just met?
The Eternals one was my least favorite credit scene that matters to sequels or future MCU. Those characters should have been in during Infinity Wars since they are connected to Thanos, don't care after. Similar to Warlock now but at least he will be better if he does appear in GOTG 3 and beyond, Magus can still be done for him.

I am guessing some time passed from when Strange dropped on the street and the eye appeared. The third eye and book may drive his interest to go.

I would be happy to let Peggy go, I know she has some fan base but to me just not feeling her a super hero. I didn't watch the what Ifs? but I assume she was a super soldier since she was still young looking. I assume they wanted two female Illuminati characters and that is slim pickings because they wouldn't want two X-Men since they have the strongest female characters. Spider-Woman could have been there instead but Peggy is recognizable.

Mate, they didn't beat Wanda.

They didn't show her how to let go of her fear, they showed her that she had become such a monster that even her own children were terrified of her - of course, that was understandable as she just nuked their real mother, but anyway.

She realised what a monster she was - despite not figuring that out while committing mass murder - and destroyed herself, literally by pulling the mountain down on top of herself.

I think we saw that final scene very differently.

Yeah, I think we do. Which is fine. I just didn't see it that way.

No doubt she saw that she was a monster but that was followed by her sitting there crying looking at her children for over a minute until she was told "They're gonna be loved". That was the moment she could let go. Strange and Chavez played a part in setting this up with what they learned from the Multiverse with their arcs. Traveling the multiverse is what leads them all to resolving that fear of being alone in some way. Strange and Wanda both can never have the love they longed for.

Was it perfectly done, nah. Did they beat her with power? Maybe? Chavez knew she couldn't literally and says this. At the same time, Chavez's actual power (what Wanda also wants) is what brought her to her end. That didn't seem unintentional or strictly Wandas doing.

Maybe I'm wrong but I personally did not see the scripts intention as she realizes she is a monster without the help of the hero's and destroys herself. Is a bit messy here for sure but it was trying to do something. The Ingredients for more meaningful arcs were there imo.

from the original Illuminati, the only members missing are Tony and Namor. They wouldn't recast Tony for such a short role, and they wouldn't bring back RDJ for a smaller role especially after his huge death in Endgame. While Namor is rumored to appear in Wakanda Forever and if he was in this movie, it would have been a sort of promotion for the upcoming Wakanda Forever (just like Reed for the upcoming Ff reboot). I don't know why Marvel didn't think that way.

Maria Rambeau was such a random choice. Though I'm giving Captain Carter a pass, because her appearance was related to What if which heavily featured the Multiverse and Evil Strange, so her as a member kinda made sense to me.

Krasinski’s probably our Reed now, right? It’s an odd introduction to kill him immediately but it’s an introduction none-the-less. I admit he’s never really been my pick but I think he gave a pretty great screen test in this movie. None of those actors were on set together, right? Krasinksi didn’t have much to say/do, but it felt like Reed Richards to me. Still not sold on Emily Blunt as Sue but she’s a great actress so I’m sure she’d knock it out of the park too.

Patrick Stewart as Xavier, on the other hand, I think is just a loving cameo/homage. Loved the idea of including the hover chair but I think they needed to take another crack at the design/build tbh lol. Still great to see.

I wonder if we can get a Captain Carter Disney+ series now that we’ve seen her in live action? I really enjoyed her What-If episode, and would always be up for more Hayley Atwell appearances in the MCU.

And I suspect Black Bolt will reappear one day in a Miss Marvel project and fellow (recast) Inhumans.
It’s a variant Reed so I guess his fate matters no more than the Strange trapped in his own world or the dead Strange. I have no problem with Krasinski as Reed if he wants it although there were others who could have been fine in the role too. Yeah, Emily Blunt is a top actress as you say and hopefully gets a MCU role one day.

Will be interesting to see what kind of chair MCU 616 Xavier gets. Maybe standard wheelchair followed by hover chair after a mansion tech upgrade. I really want a Captain Carter show. Atwell looks great in the outfit and shield and I believe she’d want to do it. Black Bolt had a good showing here IMO despite being in hardly at all. If there’s time for him in the Ms Marvel show (even after credits if needed) then I’m all for it.

How are they going to redeem her when she returns?

Well we literally just had another movie that was all about redeeming villains who had similarly been corrupted by a mix of tragic events and some external element messing with their brain.

Now that the darkhold is destroyed, I'd say the next stage of Wanda's arc will be about White Vision helping her come to terms with what she did and trying to atone for it while she helps White Vision restore his soul.

This was basically WandaVision: Epilogue from the Doctor Strange POV.

People really need to get used to the fact that the MCU is being written as a long-form serialized ensemble narrative, not as a bunch of independent stories that occasionally cross over.

Good call with White Vision.

Yeah the MCU is like one mega ongoing show.

Revisiting this lineup now...

I really didn't like the Illuminati scene but other than that I really enjoyed the movie

I really wish Raimi and Marvel would have let that professor x and wanda scene breathe just a bit longer when they went telepathic. Another minute or two with them talking and professor trying to reach her would have had a bigger impact on his death. He could have referenced Jean and so on to help her. Aot of this movie felt rushed when it didnt need to be

That would have been a very cool reference.
