In The Multiverse Of Madness Spoiler Discussion Thread

Pages and pages talks about a Dr Strange movie with barely a mention of Dr Strange himself tells you all you need to know.

You could have taken out Strange from this film and it wouldn't have mattered. Yet people talk about his *journey* lol. What journey. He was made into a bumbling fool of a loser. Yet again. And because of the major focus on Wanda, Strange had no character development. They teased it and left it in a moments notice and never explored anything really. How could you when your solo movie is 2 hours long and half of it is centered on another character who already had a lot of character development in her own lengthy series.

I feel like we watched different movies. The lines "are you happy Steven" and "let's find out what type of a Doctor Strange you are". I will grant you this is a movie that is more about the visuals and horror than character development, however it's also a film about finding a sense of purpose and dealing with realities, for Strange that he will never be with Christine and for Wanda that she never was a mother. Steven ends up using the dark hold at his own risk to save the life of an innocent. Wanda uses the darkhold and sacrifices innocents out of her own grief and selfish need for something that doesn't exist.

Yeah I actually really respected Strange and his character development in this film.

He finally took heed to what the Ancient One told him in the first movie and he surrendered. Thus saving the multiverse, his reality and setting things right. Unlike Wanda who had no self control and was driven by her grief and temptation.

Strange with all of his power and will didn’t fall to the same traps that the Scarlet Witch did.

We watched very different movies. Strange here learns 2 very important lessons:

1 - He cannot always be "the guy" in every situation. He had to let America unleash her powers on her own to save the day. This is echoed many times with the "always has to be the surgeon" talk.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall ever seeing Dr. Strange portrayed as "the guy" in his previous appearances. He has never defeated any major villains without some assistance and even lost to Spider-Man in NWH.

Remember that time Doctor Strange took another surgeon's patient just to embarass him? He also had a giant ego contest with Tony Stark in Infinity War. Not beating Spider-Man doesn't mean anything, that is just losing a fight. Not sure why thay even was mentioned here. Point being, Doctor Strange very much is a guy that wants to do things himself or be in control.

I admit, Strange probably didnt have the standout moments in the movie but make no mistake I felt that this was his film. I really loved how Raimi put his relationship with Christine at the forefront and, idk, call me corny, call me sentimental, but at the end when he told Christine "I love you...in every universe." I FELT that. And thats all raimi man, hes a romantic, he brought that same sincere love story in the Spiderman movies and romance is something sorely lacking in the MCU as a whole.

I think it was Cumberbatch's best performance as the character.

I think he had plenty of development but he still ends the movie as a hero. We've seen Wanda descend into a huge villain so its going to be talked about more.

I understand killing off Wanda because of what she has done here and in WandaVision etc, but I’m really supposed to believe that after all she’s been through, a pile of rocks in a destroyed temple is supposed to do her in?

Would’ve been better if America knocked her into that Drag Me To Hell looking dimension.

I dont believe she is really dead. No body, no death

Yeah i don’t think so either. That destroyed temple devoted to the Scarlet Witch is preserving her until her dad comes for her.

Of course Wanda is not dead. They are already developing a solo movie for her.

Assuming MyTimeToShineHello's scoop is correct, that is. She got quite the notable things wrong with this movie, and while unrelated, I lost any respect for her once she started shilling NFTs.

Sorry, I think I misunderstood your original quote. I thought that you were referring to when he was shown saving the day in his previous appearances.

How are they going to redeem her when she returns?

Let's be clear. Scarlet Witch is dead. Like dead dead. Wanda may not be dead. I'm sure EO would gladly return but I think like most actors she wants it to be meaningful.

Black Bolt sorta seems like a joke in this. I mean, does Feige dislike the Inhumans? Because to me they are currently an awkward vestigial growth on the backside of the MCU.

Chthon did it. She was possessed etc, etc. I suspect something along those lines for her redemption. Or she’ll jump in the 11th hour of an event movie like Secret Wars to help save the day. White Vision is still out there somewhere right?

It’d be cool to see remain a villain for a little bit though. Just to keep things spicy in the MCU.

Wanda is extremely popular now cause of WandaVision and a lot of people still sympathize with her, and a lot of people love EO...trust me, she isn't dead especially with White Vision still out there lol

Krasinski’s probably our Reed now, right? It’s an odd introduction to kill him immediately but it’s an introduction none-the-less. I admit he’s never really been my pick but I think he gave a pretty great screen test in this movie. None of those actors were on set together, right? Krasinksi didn’t have much to say/do, but it felt like Reed Richards to me. Still not sold on Emily Blunt as Sue but she’s a great actress so I’m sure she’d knock it out of the park too.

Patrick Stewart as Xavier, on the other hand, I think is just a loving cameo/homage. Loved the idea of including the hover chair but I think they needed to take another crack at the design/build tbh lol. Still great to see.

I wonder if we can get a Captain Carter Disney+ series now that we’ve seen her in live action? I really enjoyed her What-If episode, and would always be up for more Hayley Atwell appearances in the MCU.

And I suspect Black Bolt will reappear one day in a Miss Marvel project and fellow (recast) Inhumans.

Can someone clarify on whether Wanda's powers were also amplified by the Darkhold?
